Pretty close, but Ghaiyyath is a colt.

I like Mishriff but not in TAB market and only in a couple of markets so not sure what the plans are with him.

It has been a wet autumn in Paris and the track will be very heavy by the looks of the forecast. Probably heavier than last year which was one of the reasons enable got picked up late.

I've just looked at love and all her defeats other than debut were on her only starts on yielding tracks.

Looks like Stradivarius has never run on anything very heavy. Not sure if he has purposely missed them or it is just by chance. His stamina would surely come in to it but no evidence he'll handle it.

Nothing else seems to have great heavy track form, so possibly a repeat of last year will see Enable hard to beat. Sottsass and japan ran 3rd and 4th last year and probably place chances, and cannot write off Stradivarius who may well do a Waldgeist if he handles the conditions.

Hello,
on the eve of th "ARC", some Germanbred Horses were succesful at Paris (Longchamp)
The "Prix du Cadran", (4000 Meter) was won by Princess Zoe (Jukebox Jury-Palace Priness by Tiger Hill) and secondplaced was Alkuin by Maxios.

Django Unchained (Pastorius-Donna Lavinia by Acatenango, 2 year old) ran a secondplaced at the
"Haras de Bouquetot - Criterium de la Vente d'Octobre Arqana (Auction Race 1600 meter)

I agree with you Kav. I wonder also if Stradavarius will make it a staying contest and try and outstay them?
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

That 4000m on a heavy track was a tough slog. It took forever to run the final half mile. Princess Zoe is one gutsy stayer. She was gradually overhauling the leader all the way up the home straight & finally hit the front just before the winning post. She is very stoutly bred.

Problem is with the Arc is with all the OBrien withdrawals and the condition of the track it may turn into a sprint home in which case Enable will have a head start on Stradivarius. He would have to get going from the 1000m mark to really pour the pressure on but whether he will want to do that to the stablemate in Enable is another question.

Grey,
I am so happy that Princess Zoe got up. I had recommended Alkuin to some clients as a possible Melbourne Cup hope earlier this year after his first run this year. They rejected him but I've kept following him and backed him every start this year except last night. I felt he was a risk at 4000m and he has floundered in the past on heavy tracks. I felt he had no chance last night and didn't even 'waste' a dollar. He started at $23 and was only caught with 25m to go!

kavg, Alkuin put in a tremendous performance & was at very nice odds.

I guess it is likely they will both have a crack at Prix Royal-Oak over 3100m in a few weeks.

Hello,
I have watched the race at "German Sports TV". It was nice to see "In Swoop" (by Adlerflug, German Derbywinner 2020) from family of "Allegretta/Galileo" running a secondplace. He was from the damline of "Yonne" (Imported from France during the 1940's) and a close relative of Ito (by Adlerflug),  Igraine (sent to NZ), Itobo (by Areion) and (Our) Iwanhove, Illo etc.

Interesting "Persian King" (3placed) has an interesting Connection, he is from the damline of none other than "Protectionist"

Many thank for the info regarding "Alkuin" (Maxios-Almerita by  Medicean). I wasn't aware he was sent to AUS, because so many horses were send downunder. He is bred 3x3 Machiavellian/Coup de Folie 3x3 FB/FS and his dam is 3x4 Cocarde, and of course the ubiquitous ND, Family of "Black Cherry".

Maxios stood several year at the "Fahrhof Stud", but was sent last year to England/Ireland.

regards, Ticino

Given it was a sprint home, that didn't suit Enable, rather than a truly run Arc I think Very Ellegant could have beaten the lot of them. She has a great sprint and is elite on soggy tracks.

Spotting a post stating the heavy going would suit neither Stradivarius or the mare, using the R&S form guide, I picked out the only 4 with slow &/or heavy track form so the result wasn't such a surprise surely as I'm no form guru Big smile

Given the heavy track, the horse that I think would have been extremely hard to beat would have been Skalleti who is a gelding and not allowed to run (cue Djebel). He is a 5yo and has won 12 from 15 and 4 from 4 on heavy tracks, including beating Sottsass by a neck on 15 august over 2000m on a bog. He gave him a start, cruised up and then Sottsass put up a fight but seemed to get away from him over the last 100m. Has never been further than 2000m and that would have been the question mark.

Skalleti ended up running on Saturday at Longchamp in race 3 a G2 over 1950m and after being badly held up just past the 200m mark, managed a gap and made up the ground quickly and was eased up on line to win comfortably.

Interesting note about this year's ARC winner's Sottass owner - Peter Brant....
The day before his filly Swiss Skydiver won the Preakness!!!!

In joining a small fraternity of American-born Arc winners that includes Paul Mellon and Bruce McNall (1990 with Saumarez, partnering with Wayne Gretzky), Brant turned a dream that was born in 1971 into reality. He was there at Longchamp when Mill Reef won the 1971 Arc for Mellon (the late philanthropist who is best known in United States' racing circles for owning Rokeby Stables), making the trip to the French racetrack while he was in Paris and working with Andy Warhol on the production of the film "L'Amour."
