Djebel - the action was extravegant. Stretched out quite well.
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

Not often you can by a So You Think for $40k.  Particularly as the dam is a half to Gp 2 winner Benzini, is closely related to Gp 1 winner Hot Snitzel, and is from the same family as champion racehorse and sire Cape Cross.

And PT is believed to be owner of a tail hair.  Clap

More Bright Prospects for So You Think
Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 31

Undefeated So You Think juvenile Peltzer has been spelled with spring goals in mind after posting three wins in a row and a week later his sire has come up with two more exciting prospects in So You Can and Right You Are

Trained by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, So You Can was narrowly beaten on debut earlier this month when luckless throughout, but was quick to make amends at Morphettville on Saturday.

He travelled on the pace for Jason Holder and powered clear to win the 1250m juvenile contest by three lengths as a hot favourite.

That was a comfortable win from the favourite So You Can who takes out the first at Morphettville.

“He’s got an extravagant action and is learning his craft, but I think he’ll come back a nice three year-old,” said co-trainer Andrew Gluyas.

“His two outings have been full of merit so hopefully he can progress to some decent races in the future.”

A modest $40,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Hancox Bloodstock from the Stockwell Thoroughbreds draft, So You Can was bred by Emirates Park.

So You Can was a modest $40,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Shelley Hancox

So You Can was a modest $40,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Shelley Hancox

He is the first winner for Grojsman, an unraced half-sister by Al Maher to Group II winner Benzini from the family of Group I winner Hot Snitzel.

Further back it’s a European family of the highest order featuring Group I superstars such as Park Appeal, Cape Cross, Diktat, Shadayid and Russian Rhythm.

Given the depth of his pedigree, it’s not hard to see So You Can going a very long way next season in the capable hands of Macdonald and Gluyas.

So You Think also featured at Caulfield where progressive gelding Right You Are notched a winning hat-trick after scoring a tenacious short head victory over So you Think filly Librate.

Trained by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, Right You Are had won previously at Sandown Hillside and Werribee before stepping up to this open three year-old event over 1600m.

“Extra Time was terrific winning the Group 3 National Stakes a fortnight ago and he went straight to the paddock as we feel he could be a Melbourne spring horse.

“So You Can gives us that same feeling so we may tip him out now as well.”

Impressive wins by Extra Time and So You Can have not gone unnoticed with the phone ringing from prospective Hong Kong buyers.

“Understandably there has been interest in both horses but nothing concrete to report.”

PT can avail us of the actual answer if he chooses, however believe there might be as many as 500 with a small share in So You Can.  If so they're in it for the thrill and involvement rather than the prospect of huge financial return.

So let's say he was sold to Honkers for say $2 million, after commission etc that would return less than $4,000 to each part owner.

Suspect on that basis the vast majority of part owners would prefer to retain the gelding and enjoy the huge vibe that would attach to his career and hopefully a major win along the way.

A number of us have been discussing on our Facebook Group page SC We aren't even sure there is a provision in our contracts for this type of early sale.

There is for a horse being moved on who is under-performing but not this type of sale from what I recall.

Majority discussing it today including myself will vote NO As you say I would rather have a promising horse and go forward to Spring and hope he measures up to that rather than sell for a relatively small return per share.

Few years back had a share in a gelding purchased through a fairly well known syndicator. Received an offer from HK after winning its one and only trial. There was a provision in the syndication agreement that covered it...along with a 10% negation/admin fee payable to the syndicator from the purchase price...rest was distributed amongst the owners. I was against selling but was out-voted by the others. Decision proved to be the right one as it did nothing overseas. Best of luck with yours, it’s a nice position to be in.

Thanks, in this case there was an undisclosed tentative 7 figure amount discussed.

''We have an enquiry from a bloodstock agent asking if he could be bought.
We have been through this before and understand that owners in syndicates like this want to race their horses.
Rest assured -  we are not about to sell him out from under you.
The bottom line is that he is not for sale and we will continue to race So You Can.''

Off to the paddock for 4 weeks and we will happily take the chance that he is a dud, but will be aimed at Spring 3yo races.

Good luck Passing Through you are right in know just how hard it is to get a winner let alone a good horse to enjoy racing with.  Hope he turns in some lovely wins in the future for you all.

SO YOU CAN

"Only had the two starts for an unlucky second on debut at Balaklava and then an easy win at Morphettville beating four rivals," he said.

"Raced by the Hancox Bloodstock Group, Shelley and Rod appear to have a very nice horse on their hands with this fellow.

"We will also kick him off in Adelaide, more than likely in an open three-year-old (race), but he too may run in the Spring Stakes.

"If he looks like he can measure up his program in Melbourne may see him locking horns a fair bit with Extra Time."

I hope I am thoroughly wrong Passing Through but reading what the trainer/s have to say I can see a thoroughly frustrating spring in front of him.

He'll always be looking good for his next run.

The calendar is not good for him in August in SA, no race at all for him. What he does 1st up will determine his Spring. There is a plan B and C.

But he didn't. As you should already know - there is no such thing as a certainty in racing. Simple really. Needs more distance.
