PT, for what reason would you draw TBV members attention to some historian who want to seek access to letters of Sir John Kerr dating back 47 years ?
Going by the historian's previous books.... Lionel Murphy: A Political Biography Frank Hardy: Politics, Literature, LifeGough Whitlam: A Moment in History Gough Whitlam: His Time The Dismissal Dossier All favourable books towards individuals from the left side of the political spectrum
Any chance our historian might be seeking, from those letters of Kerr, some right wing conspiracy theories of 47 years ago so that she can launch another book ? |

Who cares . Its done and dusted now and cant be changed, and he was a right old boozer, who couldnt hold his grog, like Hawk could, so not very surprising he got the boot.

Dear Bob, these are 200 odd letters exchanged between Governor General Kerr and Queen Elizabeth at the time of The Dismissal. If you cant see the historic importance of one of the most critical incidents in our history, from a first hand perspective of the key players, I cant help you.

The letters will simply show the Queen telling Kerr that it’s nothing to do with her and she was keeping out of it. It was up to Kerr to use his judgement. I’d be much more interested in any correspondence between Kerr and Washington. That would have a lot more to do with the Whitlam dismissal . EVERYBODY at the time thought it was all about Pine Gap and Whitman’s refusal to renew the lease unless the Australian Government was kept informed about what the Americans were actually doing there.

There were conspiracies aplenty. It will just be nice to get a first hand confirmation of the Queen and Kerr's part.
I always thought the Queen stayed out and Kerr conspired with Fraser.

200+ letters seems an awfully large number, if it was just at that very time.

The greatest favour, ever done, for Australia was the getting rid of Gough Whitlam .
I remember the mess only too well , Gough Favouring the middle East over the USA . Making his own Rules, which is a Labor trait. ---The Loans affair, also called the Khemlani affair, was a political scandal involving the Whitlam Government of Australia in 1975, in which it was accused of attempting to unconstitutionally borrow money from Middle Eastern countries through the agency of Pakistani banker Tirath Khemlani (17 September 1920 — 19 May 1991), bypassing standard procedures of the Australian Treasury. Minerals and Energy Minister Rex Connor, along with Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister Dr Jim Cairns misled Parliament and were forced from the Whitlam Cabinet over the Affair, which was a key precursor to the Constitutional Crisis and the Dismissal of the Whitlam Government in 1975.[1] ------ Don't talk about Kerr drinking , when Bob Hawke was a self confessed alcoholic with a mistress in every room. 45 year since Gough was slaughtered in an election, BY THE PEOPLE , who were the Judge, on who was correct ... Kerr or Whitlam. |

Sorry Macca, Bob never touched a drop (except for the cameras) during his Prime Ministership.
Before and after, but not while in high office.

macca, the "loans affair" was the greatest load of bullship ever foisted upon the ears of the Australian populace, If some little weasel wants to lend you a sh1tload of money at interest rates way below the then prevailing interest rate, the only sane response is, "fill 'er up, mate". Goodness me, too easy.

Against the Laws of the land and what favours were in the agreement to obtain such treatment.
History has been made and the will of the people decided. Nothing to debate -- Whitlam got thrown out = Never to return , despite more attempts. The JUDGE was the Election of 1975 by a huge majority in favour of Kerr's decision. |

Favours ? What favours ? I would think promise the world, and receive the heavily discounted loan, would be de rigeur, especially if said "promises" unenforceable by law. It was like so much of the opposition to Whitlam, generated by the media, who were all-powerful in those days. The same media that "sold" the Vietnam war as a "just cause". Pig's ars it was.

Who Knows ---- The I don't know basket, to all of these questions.
China is buying up every where , Maybe they stole the idea from Kimlani. What we do know is the record book shows Whitlam got his arz kicked in 1975. END OF STORY. |

On what basis and for what reasons did he do so Macca?
Rather, for instance than keeping out of politics and simply allowing the people to make its decision at the next election. |

I wonder who funded this historian to appear before the High Court to gain access to Kerr’s correspondence with the Queen. As anybody would know to appear before the High Court it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in Court costs to fund both sides. Who and why would a humble historian go to such lengths to gain access to those papers ? Is someone digging for something?

I’ve got no barrow to push here,
Whitlam government was so on the nose with the electorate, that they didn’t care what acts of bastardry were involved in tossing Whitlam out, they just wanted him gone ASAP. It was a huge moment in our history. It’s been long enough, why shouldn’t it be released? |

Who could complain about the truth coming out, about the machinations that preceded the "dismissal".
