He has an awkward gate otherwise I'd expect him to settle in the first half.
This trip he should be closer.

Well so much for that, he’s been scratched today.
Not sure if the whole Spring campaign is over? Or whether he’s just being redirected away from Cups to some lesser target races?

Or maybe any race where he hasn't drawn the carpark from a horrendous barrier position.

Finch said barriers 1 to 8 have won 95% of the last 502 Flemington 2500m races. I think I heard him correctly. Wasn't paying attention.

Still listed as being in the paddock.
Does anyone have any updates on him?

Notice this guy has the CJW and is now back with his original trainer (Mick Kent), who is also a part owner.

I think the Wheels fell off when they decided not to run him in the SA Derby. The way he won the Frank Packer Plate & ran through the line looked like he was screaming out for a staying distance. It was hard to see him not being competitive with Russian Camelot, Dalasan and Warning in that SA Derby - he might have even won, raised his rating and last spring could have been completely different.
Instead they got precious with him, brought him back in distance for a race in Queensland, and he never came up in the Spring. Should have run him in the SA Derby. Big mistake.

Whilst he was going well it was crazy to take him off Waller.
Now it is not Kent's fault.

Waller had his chance with him in the Spring and ducked it up.

Mick had him for just one run before sending him to Waller. Who did very well early on before the horse failed to fire last Spring.
No surprise Mick is now back in town and back in charge.

Kinane closer to comebackCarl Di Iorio@CDi_Iorio 10:55am Before Ayrton came Kinane. As hype merchants extolled the virtues of current Cox Plate favourite Ayrton for the umpteenth time ahead of his Stradbroke Handicap fait accompli next month, past pin-up Kinane took significant steps towards his competitive return at Cranbourne on Monday. Kinane, back in the care of original trainer and part-owner Mick Kent, satisfied in his 850-metre jumpout when runner-up to Enver Jusufovic's five-year-old mare Neneka. "He looks to be going well," Kent said. Kinane was purchased by Kent, through bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo, for NZ$165,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale. Cataldo also brokered the deal which saw Ayrton join Kent's son, Michael Kent Jnr, and senior training partner Mick Price off one New Zealand trial when beaten by subsequent G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) placegetter Cornflower Blue. Kinane was beaten on debut on Bendigo Cup Day in October 2019 when he had his only start for Kent. The Cranbourne trainer dispersed his stable with the intention of taking a holiday, only for COVID-19 to interrupt early into his vacation. By that stage Kinane had joined Chris Waller and his status grew with each start during the autumn of 2020, charging from last for second in a 1400-metre Warwick Farm mid-week maiden behind all-the-way maiden winner Good Stock in March. An easy Wyong mile maiden victory was then followed by success in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick in mid-April. Multi-million dollar offers - as much as $3m - were reported from eager Hong Kong-based owners, but no deal ever occurred. Kinane travelled to Brisbane for two G3s during their COVID-condensed Winter Carnival, the Gunsynd Classic (1800m) and Rough Habit Plate (2200m), with the hype machine in overdrive. Kinane was beaten in the Gunsynd and then spelled before the Rough Habit and maligned thereafter. Ayrton, like Kinane, is a Kiwi-bred approaching the banana skin of a two-start Brisbane campaign while still maturing into his second racing preparation with Hong Kong offers being willfully rejected. Ayrton, like Kinane in the Gunsynd Classic, will most likely start odds-on at Eagle Farm two weeks ahead of his principle aim. Defeat in the $250,000 G3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) on May 29 will deny Ayrton the chance of running in the Stradbroke and is likely to elicit a similar response from fickle followers with only an appreciation for picket-fence form. Three unplaced performances from Kinane last spring consigned him to the scrapheap, an encouraging swooping effort from a wide barrier first-up over 1400m at Randwick followed up by two below-par efforts. Kinane had excuses but minds were already made up following his most recent start when 13th in the $160,000 G3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on September 19. "He had bone bruising in all four fetlocks (after the Naturalism) so we spelled him for four months," Kent said. "It was just a case of immaturity, he was still very soft and we had him all scanned, which showed the bruising. He's had the break and we're hoping that's going to sort him out." Kent said his priority is for Kinane to rediscover winning form in Melbourne through the winter before contemplating his future. "Flemington this time of year is just always perfect ground," Kent said. "He is not a wet-tracker but just a little bit of cut in the ground wouldn't hurt him." Ayrton may be unbeaten from three starts but the prospect of an unblemished reputation beyond Brisbane is a deceptively difficult challenge. Thankfully horses can't read or Kinane may never have rehabilitated from his bruised ego. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip9XxAEbGl4&feature=emb_imp_woyt |

Well we finally get to see this guy back racing today. Probably not a betting proposition, just a watch & see.
But I genuinely hope that Mick Kent can get him back into form & fulfil his earlier promise.

A little disappointed he was scratched last week over 1600m. He should at least be fit for 1400 today.

Jockey booking suggests Mick wants a good feel on how he's progressing, good trainer this bloke imo.

Inconclusive run today, probably just a blow out the cobwebs effort.
Hopefully he’s at 1700-1800m for his next start.

Not sure if I’m going off a run too early here but with Degraves scratched, I’m warming to Kinane as an each way bet today.
Fitter for solid first up run & Jamie sticks with him

Kinane (NZ) Disappointing performance. Rider Jamie Kah reported that in her opinion the gelding did not appreciate racing inside other horses. Post-race endoscopy of Kinane detected a degree of internal exercise?induced pulmonary haemorrhage which may have affected the horse's racing performance. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to racing again.

As Australian racing fans we should be disappointed for the owners that it does not look at this stage to have paid off.

You have to feel for the owners he looked like a budding superstar early on when they rejected the HK offer. It's like he's lost a leg since. Whether its mental or a niggling inury who knows.

Whilst he wasn’t sizzling home, I did notice Kinane poking through late in the last at Flemington.
Definately a step in the right direction today. Mick Kent is a very astute trainer, so will be fascinated to see where he runs this guy next.

I watched him closely and booked him for a 2000m race in similar class in the next cycle.
The ONLY race for him is a 2040m handicap at the Valley. YUK!

I had an each way bet on him today, so was disappointed to see him run 4th (is there anything worse when you’re on EW).
Worked home ok in the straight, looked like the run of a stayer to me. Mick Kent will probably get him out to 2000m next start & hopefully 2400m this prep. With Nom De Jeu, Savabeel & Star Way blood, a staying trip shouldn’t be a problem for him.

Noticed he’s listed as ‘Retired’ on Racing Australia website. Since that $2m+ offer, he had 11 starts for 1 placing and $30,350 in prize money
