As far as the latest strain goes well I think new variants are going to keep emerging continually, there is probably more than the number recognised out there, in 5-10 years I think COVID will just be an accepted hurdle in life.

The difference with this one Afros is that similar to seasonal flu which has new bird virus incorporated into it each year causing an antigenic shift rather than drift from mutations of the original, this one looks like it has incorporated a different virus(HIV) into itself, and it has changed it's original shape and added 4 times as many mutations and 8 new blocking agents into itself, making the mRNA viruses less effective at blocking them ''docking'' than Delta did.

Only time will tell but it is alarming a lot of people.

Some weird scenes in Portugal this morning with Belenenses forced to play a game with only 9 players, including a goalkeeper at right back, due to Covid. Supposed to have 11 players plus 9 on the bench for anyone that doesn't know.

Opponent Benfica were up 7-0 at half time.

Belenenses came back after half time with only 7 players, then had an 'injury' which reduced them to 6 players and forced the ref to abandon the game due to minimum player rules.

Why wasn't this match just postponed?

I don't think covid rates in top 10 on it's own . Certainly does rate high when grouped with other lower respiratory diseases. =

A wait and see "guess game" now . Will be a kick in the butt if the fully vaccinated start falling in numbers.
