Baghdad Bob my 60K house is now about the 600K mark and that is 10 times. At the peak a smaller house than ours went for over 800K so maybe 600k is a bit low even.  Others, which have been renovated up to a far greater extent, are even higher and over the 1 million in my area.  And we are one of the cheaper areas in Sydney.

Tommy Smith to loyal heavy weight jockey and avid trackwork rider Ted Swinton as he paid the ten pound weeks wages, " Invest in bricks and mortar Ted , you can't go wrong". wise man was Tommy. btw that was 65 years ago , a lot has changed since then.Wink

I would have thought Tommy's best mail would have Trumped real estate, as an investment at the time. But then I knew a bloke who allegedly got information from Ernie, and it didn't seem that good. Who knows what ears the "right" info reaches.

I could have sworn the SKY liars were touting Sweden as a prime example of the "right" approach, not that long ago.

They average 60-70,000 for the "after dark" (Bolt, Jones, Murray, Credlin)

The Outsiders are the bottom of the cesspool that are the Sky News hosts. Three halfwits masquerading as intelligent life form led by that real “dope’s dope” Rowan Dean. Is he still telling the world that Trump will win by a landslide? LOLLOL

In the 35 years I have lived in our home I am sure I have paid as much in council rates and normal on-going property maintenance such as repainting etc as what the original purchase and renovation cost.

According to Google $1 AUD in 1985 is now the equivalent to $2.98 AUD. If my house cost me twice as much  to buy, renovate and maintain over those 35 years and the value of money is 2.98 times , I am certainly in front as mine has risen more than 2.98 times but not as much as it first appears.

In real terms I have probably doubled my money.

Sold the family home in 1978 for $40,000.  A second story bedroom/ensuite was later added.  Now valued at $2 million.

Bought our Canberra home in 1979 for $42,500.  Sold it in 2002 for $395,000.

Bought our Wangaratta property for $225,000 in 2001.  Renovated and added infrastructure at a cost of about $65,000.  Sold it in 2018 for $632,000.

Bought our house in Bendigo for $385,000 in late 2018.  Already valued at $515,000.

FWIW.
