At about 9.30.

See there's some talk of the meeting being moved elsewhere.  If so that might mean race time changes too.

Move it to a place where at least horses and people can breathe. Don't worry about "old man punters". They're usually holding the form in both hands and a fag drooping from their mouths...

Melbourne’s smoke haze could force Saturday’s Flemington meeting to be shifted to Sunday.

The smoke haze forced Wednesday’s Caulfield and Yarra Valley meetings to be abandoned but could also play havoc with the weekend’s racing.

Rain and possibly thunderstorms are forecast for late on Wednesday, which would shift the smoke haze, but the Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the haze to return on Saturday.

Racing Victoria’s racing operations manager Paul Bloodworth told RSN the forecast could prompt RV and the VRC to move the Flemington meeting to Sunday.

"The next couple of days are looking fine. We've got a little bit of rain coming tonight and tomorrow and the smoke haze dissipating," he said.

"Unfortunately, at this point though, they are forecasting the smoke haze returns on Saturday where we're racing at Flemington and Camperdown.

“It's probably a little bit too early to make any firm decisions on that now.”

The loss of the Caulfield, Yarra Valley and Tuesday’s Werribee meeting means hundreds of horses miss out on runs. Bloodworth said RV could put on another meeting next week but the busy calendar made it tight.

"We're looking at this point to Tuesday to schedule a meeting to run alongside Warrnambool," Bloodworth said.

"The next few days through to Sunday we have two meetings each day and two meetings and a picnic meeting on Saturday and it just makes it difficult to move a meeting there now with jockey engagements already done and trainers

“It would put imposition on them and their staff.”

Bloodworth said RV would not schedule a meeting on Monday as there was an industry agreement not to clash with the annual National Jockeys’ Trust fundraising cricket match.

May as well just call it now and put the prize money into the fundraisers that each race is named after.

Try and reschedule the 2500m event, but the rest won't be missed.

Perhaps the small number of acceptances, or youngsters' reduced ability to cope with air quality issues, that there would have been 10 races had the 2yo race been run, or perhaps a combination of all those factors.

I can’t remember a Flemington Saturday meeting having so many races with < 8 runners.

After scratchings 5 of the 9 races have 7 runners or less.

All the open class races have small fields & only the low grade BM races have decent sized fields.
