Anorexia, seemingly. Heartbreaking business. A psychological disorder. Though I recall an aunt of mine, who was stick thin all her life, dying at 84, and I was shocked when the death certificate gave the cause of death as "Anorexia". I had seen her not that long before she died, at home, and she seemed no thinner than she had always been.

My cousins daughter's went through this. Countless therapies, and countless relapses.

Sad.

One of the founders of Australian rock band Skyhooks, guitarist Peter Starkie, has died aged 72.

His brother Bob Starkie, also a member of the band, said Mr Starkie died "in one of those stupid ladder accidents".

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-09-16/founding-skyhooks-guitarist-peter-starkie-dies/12668908

Men over 60 should not get on ladders - the stats are shocking. Now interestingly, it's always older men who are having ladders injuries/deaths. I've never heard of it happening to a woman. Is that because senior women have better balance, or are more careful, or are smart enough to get a man to do it?Wink

Very sad, and indeed true.

Talking about performers, I remember that Col Joye had a serious fall from a ladder some years ago.  But did recover, to a degree of disappointment from most in the entertainment industry of his time.

I reckon its because most women dont "do" ladders.  They just leave it to the macho men to climb them, and then fall off.  LOL
Yeah, what did Col do ???

Bush fires are not good in OZ or US...

Supreme Justices would rather be at the opera!

Ginsburg explained why she had fallen asleep during the State of the Union address just a few weeks before. She had vowed not to have wine with dinner that night: "Just sparkling water, stay away from the wine. But in the end, the dinner was so delicious it needed wine to accompany it."

Scalia quipped, "That's the first intelligent thing you've done."

Among other things, the two bonded over their love of opera.

I'd rather Supreme Justices were at the Opera rather than fighting fires as well.

Age doesn't matter when the genes are not flow friendly.

The genetic family ties that bind brothers and sisters also link their risk for developing clogged arteries and having potentially fatal heart attacks, scientists report.

I wonder if these people ensure a defibrillator is always in their training /working areas .     Should be compulsory.

Not all is genetic but lifestyle also impacts...

He was an athlete who was high tuned. His heart could beat and beat...

216 @ Adelaide against WIndies How well I remember that....

dont do that, runing at your age will bring on a heart atack faster in many cases. Mild exercise, good diet, keep weight down is the way to go.

and genetics as has been stated. I wonder if that 210 madein horrifically humid, hot conditions, he was close to colapse at stages, had any efect on his heart health.

Contrary to popular opinion, it is not "cholesterol-clogged arteries" that is the cause of sudden cardiac death. It is sometimes a result of disturbances to heart rhythm, which can be caused by certain infections, but more usually the result of a blood clot occluding a coronary artery, after the interior wall has ruptured, usually at a site damaged by inflammation. The much increased survival rate of heart attack patients these days, is attributable to emergency use of powerful clot-busting drugs, which are a risk of causing major bleeds. and sometimes fatal stroke, but on balance save many lives. However, not in the case of the wife of a relative who exhibited symptoms of a heart attack, was administered the clot-busting injections, had a stroke, and died from that.

Macca in Dean Jones case you could be correct, his father Barney died at 65 years of age.I do not know the reason of his father’s death but the genes one inherits from one’s  parents has a large bearing on your life expectancy.
When I worked in the life insurance industry, amongst many considerations in assessing a premium, your family history was taken into account.

I would think the advent of cheap and effective blood pressure medication, has done a great deal to lower heart attacks, BB may recall that life insurance companies, in the days before such treatments, regarded high blood pressure as a strong indicator of early death, and would not insure such persons, or greatly increased premiums. Hypertension damages arterial walls, increasing heart attacks and strokes. The BP revealed by the medical check guided the insurance companies. I read that Franklin Roosevelt had very high BP during his presidency, dangerously so, and little could be done at that time to treat it. He died from a stroke at a relatively young age, but of course was a heavy smoker as well.
