A great jockey, but I believe he suffered much discrimination due to his indigenous blood ?  Listened to him interviewed a couple of times .  The way he was treated by some was shameful.

That was sad news but I have heard they are making a film based on Darby's life, which would be a great movie and if done right, would fall into the Americans love of an underdog rising to become one of the best in their field.

It certainly is worthy of a film, just as much as Michelle Payne's efforts!

I agree Voyager.   One of 13 kids grew up in a sandhills camp, and started riding at about 12 in races in Qld.
He did it much tougher than Michelle.
Went on to ride in France and England and got into the hall of fame.
The book about him is worth reading.  Makes one realise how tough he did it.

Sadly, after the passing of Richard "Darby" McCarthy, another small man called Richard has also passed away.

RIP Little Richard

The funny thing is that when he changed the original homo lyrics to inoffensive nonsense lyrics for Americans they still sounded dirty to little Aussie ears. I always thought he was singing Tutti frutti want a rooty.

Where'd you get that info from? Funny thing, I visited my 80+ y/o parents yesterday and the only news of the world they cared about was Little Richard dying. They both said he was an amazing talent.

Little Richard seemed to be a confused case, never quite making up his mind if homosexuality was "OK".
