There is something very very wrong with that Lindsay Park policy.

The medical records of all horses should be part of their passport.

All of their horses for sale have this same vet clause. I’ve always found it extremely dodgy.

Warrnambool-based trainer Aaron Purcell says he is going to go right back to basics after buying one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Constantinople.

The former import, who ran fourth in the 2019 Caulfield Cup for Lindsay Park, was knocked down to Purcell for $70,000 at this month's Inglis Digital sale.

The five-year-old has failed to hit those 2019 heights, and has battled injuries, with his most recent outing a 38.4-length defeat in the Listed Andrew Ramsden last month.

Purcell said he is hopeful the change of scenery will help spark Constantinople.

"He is a high-class horse that has obviously lost his way for a few different reasons, I have been told," Purcell said.

"We will just work on them, try and get him going again and work out where we are. There's no plans.

"Obviously he had big expectations early on and they have disappeared now. So we can poke along and do things without much pressure and run him when he is ready.

"We will get him going and then work a plan out and readjust that plan as we go.

"It's good to have good horses in the stable and hopefully we can get him back to form and win a decent race."

Aaron Purcell is not a cookie cutter trainer.  Thinks outside the square & can get the best out of stamina horses.  His CV does include most of the major marathon jumps races too, which is testament to this.  He’s had quite a few imports over the years, generally C-graders but still gets them winning at their grade.  So will be fascinating to see if he can resurrect Constantinople.

AP goes alright and a good horseman to boot , just a curiosity question , was this horse a N/H 3/yo when he ran in the Melbourne cup ? if so that would make about 8-10 n/h 3/yo since those 3 lollipops went like Oakleigh Plate horses about 10 years ago and finished a furlong or two behind the winner , then shot thru like a Bondi tram with the trainer the same night and not a word said , they take this race too casual for the young ones no matter what they've done back home , btw any news on Tiger Moth.?

Thanks , I watched his first up run with the jockey easing him up in the last 200 though he may have had a problem.

I’ve never backed him but he was a bit better today on the bog. His first run on it.
Badly held up from before the turn.
Should have run 3rd??.

Anyone think he might be able to get into the placings today in R4 at Flemington?

It’s the weakest race he’s contested since being in Aust & he’s only been getting beaten 7-8 lens by good horses like Smokin Romans, Wentwood, Duais, etc in recent runs.

Lazy gold coin the place today.

My main bet in the race was the appalling Saracen Knight.  But certainly satisfying to have a little collect on the much maligned Constantinople.

I know it wasn’t a strong race but Aaron would have to give him a crack at the Bagot Hcp 2800m on New Years Day.

Anyway, good work today Connie Clap

The horse raced like he looked. He was an absolute picture in the mounting yard. I was there & was impressed. All credit to the training establishment

Toughed it out for 3rd today in the Bool Cup.

Interestingly that was his first black type placing since running 2nd to Logician in the G2 Great Voltigeur at York in 2019!

Although he trialled over the hurdles last month, there might just be another flat win for him over the winter before he goes jumping.

I was on course yesterday for his hurdle debut & he certainly had the crowd thrilled tearing away down the hill before getting run down late by Blandford Lad.

Having now watched the replay, he certainly put in a few sticky leaps and jumped the last like a cat.  So room for improvement for sure.

But overall a more than satisfactory debut & brought along patiently he should have a good career as a hurdler.

Geez Aaron Purcell has got ‘Connie’ in tip top order.  Another really good run for 3rd placing in R1 at Flemington.

Whilst a return to the hurdles is in his future, I’d seriously think about the Flemington 1849 Cup over 2800m next month.  It’s a $150k race in mid July, and he can then look to pick off a hurdle in August.
