I think we'll be hearing a great deal about this impressive staying gelding from the West & now with Pat Carey.
His breeder must have a fair handle on pedigrees judging by this one, riddled with duplicated top mares Clap

Impi impresses landing Echuca plunge

Matt Welsh

4:08pm

Mornington trainer Pat Carey looks to have a stayer of some promise in the form of Impi, a four-year-old gelding who demolished his rivals at his Victorian debut on Sunday.

Impi had one start under the care of Perth trainer Justin Warwick when defeating his rivals by six-lengths over 1675m at Bunbury, before he was sent east to continue his career with Carey.

Punters launched into Impi at Echuca, backing him from $2.10 into $1.85 and he never gave his backers a moment of worry.

Rhys McLeod took the gelding straight to the front and he controlled proceedings until the home bend before quickly kicking clear of his rivals.

Despite being eased up on the line, Impi still won by six-lengths and he now looks destined for much bigger things after easily taking the step from maiden grade into a BM70 on Sunday.

Speaking post-race, Carey was excited about what lay ahead for the rising five year-old.

“He’s a good, scopey athletic horse and the future looks bright for him, that’s for sure,” said the Mornington trainer.

The gelding is raced by Wyadup Valley Farm, who also raced the 2012 Group 1 ATC Derby winner Ethiopia with Carey.

Owned by Trevor Delroy, Wyadup Valley Farm stand Impi’s sire, Crowded House and Carey was full of praise for the stallion.

“This is the third one we’ve had by Crowded House and he was a high class horse.

“We’ve had some impressive types by him: Algiers, Alexandria and now this one.

“I think Trevor’s got a nice little stallion on his hands.”

Raced in WA (one start) but he's a WA horse surely?

Who's disputing? Confused Do you have a chip on your shoulder Jamal? He was bred & raced there so what other State would claim him? Confused

My thoughts exactly.
Mentioned him in the WA horses thread - impressed at two runs now.
Will be interesting to see how he measures up in stronger company.
Today’s was a fairy moderate field and he was clearly better than them.
Now it’s time to step it up again and see what happens next.

No I don't have a chip on my shoulder. Don't assume anything with me please. Ibmebtuoned about WA because in the past some people on this forum have critisised me for claiming a horse as WA when in their opinion it's not. So try and understand it from my point of view. Cheers

I see he’s an acceptor in the 2000m open handicap at Flemington.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes against experienced hard heads like Second Bullet & Pacodali.

Very interesting runner at Flemington. On ratings I can't have him favourite (which he is), but he has so much upside he might win anyway.

Does have upside but this may be a test. I wonder why he only had one run in WA? He could of been targeted for the Ascot summer carnival this year.

Yeah its a good horse. I didn't mind the breeding on the dam side. Looked into it a while back. Crowded House as a sire is relatively unknown though. Not sure its sired anything of note?

We have Harbor Views tomorrow and this guy looks to be a similar type.

What are we thinking is his aim distance wise?

Goes to the 1800m in R1 at Flemington today.

No way I want to take the odds-on price. But hope he wins handsomely today.

If he does, I wonder if Pat Carey would look at the Eclipse Stks 1800m at Sandown in 9 days time? Or could he head back to Perth for the summer?

On that run he does not stay 1200m.

He was beaten well before the straight.

I was surprised it was that short. The run at Geelong was solid but nothing to get excited about.

Does he HAVE to lead??? why can't he be ridden a but quieter. Being in front means he will always be a sitting duck.
