If you haven't seen it, watch the video on racing.com of Matt Hill's call in the Newmarket. It's as close to perfect for a 22 horse field down the straight six as you could imagine.

Bill Collins call of Bonecrusher v At Talaq in 87 Aust Cup. Have heard other versions of the race and Bill was the only caller to pick Bonecrusher in the photo. The Accurate One right to the very end.

Also David Raphaels call of the 2000 Hong Kong Mile. The Mare of the World vs the Horse of Hong Kong.

Now you mention it, the call of Bonecrushers Cox Plate has to be up there.

Steve Hawkins was a great caller in Queensland, especially the Gold Coast. Sadly missed by punters

I can't include some of these if I can't find them on YouTube.

Remember, we're after great racecalls, thrilling, inspiring, capturing the moment.

Not just great races.

A race call that has always stuck with me is Bill Collins call of the 1988 Australian Cup.

It was billed as a match race between the reigning champ BONECRUSHER & the exciting front runner VO ROGUE.

Cyril Small had shot Vo some 6 lengths clear at the 400m mark and the Crusher was toiling amongst the chasing pack.

Bill declared Vo the winner: “He’s got this this won I’d say”

But then slowly a 100/1 bolter began to emerge from the pack......

Bill Collins: “VO ROGUE’S stopping, DANDY ANDY’s got him! DANDY ANDY! Goodness gracious me”.

I can’t find this on YouTube , but the theatre of Bills call of this race and the feeling of shock that he was able to convey in the call was just magic !

Bruce’s call for Ch 10 is pretty good.....but Bill’s call of the race on 3UZ radio was much, much more exciting.

I wasn't a huge fan of Brian Martin, but watching the 1990 Japan Cup again, it was by far his best ever call, as Better Loosen Up surged in between two rivals.

Bill Collins call of the 87 Australian Cup was pretty special too, when Bonecrusher just ran down At Talaq.
