Quite amazing the white towel didnt come out after the fight to wipe up the usual 💩 Mundine dribbles , Probably his most dignified ramble ever , maybe Horn knocked some humility into him.

Mundine bowed out gutlessly, he could have continued just didn't want to take any more punishment.

How good is Crawford even considering Horn's weight loss for the fight ?

I am probably not as old as you, having missed Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano, but I did grow up watching the Ali, Frazier, Foreman fights and had the great pleasure of meeting and talking to Ali, so we may be talking about the same era.

Dont forget that Ali was actually the beginning of the circus that boxing became with his association with King, ''fights'' against Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki, his travelling boxing circus with Joe Bugner  and the almost ill fated encounter with Gorilla Monsoon where he was hurt in a back slam.

I dont like the theatrical aspect much either, but that farce last night aside that I would never pay to watch, there is plenty of high quality top level boxing to be watched if you want to.

How old do you think he is LOL  Marciano retired in 1952 and Joe Louis was before that ?

I think the free to air started about the time when Ali was allowed back into boxing

Cheeky Lot .

Bluddy unreliable Comps always choose the right moment .

It was a shock ending but Horne had him badly hurt very early .

I thought Mundine looked better after the fight than before .

I'm with CNNPT - I would have paid for every Ali/Frazier/Holmes/Bugner, etc fight back in the day ... even Tysons era, they had drawing power.

It's always more interesting watching a heavyweight title bout - they are the top of the pile, they have the history - unless you are a Heavyweight Champion, you will only ever be known as "the best, pound for pound"  ... if you want to watch a couple of 70 kg scrappers go at it, just visit any Primary School in Bankstown at lunchtime, when the year 4 Shia's take on the Sunnis - you'll catch a Muhammed Ali v Mohammed Aly bout virtually daily!
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

They were guaranteed $2 million each, but if there were pay per view bonuses it could be multiples of that with it being the 3rd biggest PPV event ever in Australia.

Geez I would let Horne knock me out for 2 mill  !!!  Nice little retirement kitty for Mundine .

Tyson Fury robbed today.
Very disappointing as a fan.
I was on Fury but draw was my best way because I thought something like this could happen.
At least when you see a robbery in the UFC Dana White calls it out.

Surprised people were so interested in the Horn/Mundine fight but no one cared about the heavyweight tile fight.

Watch the highlights on YouTube it was brutal.

I'm amazed he got up after taking that shot in the 12th, back of his head slammed against the mat. But he was strong at the end of the round after getting up.

Great fight that Fury looked to be in control of, but it is hard to argue with the draw decision after 2 knockdowns. He also looked to be in a bit of bother at the bell in the 8th round.

In an interesting post script to the fight it has been reported that Fury has donated his entire 8 million pound purse to homeless charities.

The weight divisions in boxing need revision- they are a relic. 91kg makes you a heavyweight.  77kg and you're a light heavyweight.Shocked

91kg is Cruiserweight.

Heavyweight is anything, no minimum.

Wilder weighed in at 96.4kg for this fight. He normally fights at 100-102kg

Not sure why he would go light against someone 20kg heavier.

More divisions were added, and professional governing bodies now recognize a total of 17 weight classes, which had their current names established by the major boxing organizations in 2015. The upper limits of these classes are delimited as follows:
  • minimumweight, 105 pounds (48 kg)
  • light flyweight, 108 pounds (49 kg)
  • flyweight, 112 pounds (51 kg)
  • super flyweight, 115 pounds (52 kg)
  • bantamweight, 118 pounds (53.5 kg)
  • super bantamweight, 122 pounds (55 kg)
  • featherweight, 126 pounds (57 kg)
  • super featherweight, 130 pounds (59 kg)
  • lightweight, 135 pounds (61 kg)
  • super lightweight, 140 pounds (63.5 kg)
  • welterweight, 147 pounds (67 kg)
  • super welterweight, 154 pounds (70 kg)
  • middleweight, 160 pounds (72.5 kg)
  • super middleweight, 168 pounds (76 kg)
  • light heavyweight, 175 pounds (79 kg)
  • cruiserweight, 200 pounds (91 kg)
  • heavyweight, unlimited

In all world and national title fights, weight limits must be strictly observed, although fighters are often allowed by contract to weigh-in the day before a fight. If a boxer is over the limit, he is normally given a short time in which to make the stipulated weight. If he still fails, the bout usually proceeds, but if the overweight fighter wins the bout, the title for which he was fighting is declared vacant.

In Olympic-style amateur boxing the weight divisions for men are:

  • light flyweight, not more than 108 pounds (49 kg)
  • flyweight, 115 pounds (52 kg)
  • bantamweight, 123 pounds (56 kg)
  • lightweight, 132 pounds (60 kg)
  • light welterweight, 141 pounds (64 kg)
  • welterweight, 152 pounds (69 kg)
  • middleweight, 165 pounds (75 kg)
  • light heavyweight, 178 pounds (81 kg)
  • heavyweight, 201 pounds (91 kg)
  • super heavyweight, any weight over 201 pounds (91 kg)

Whatever they are, it isn't the weight divisions that is the problem with boxing.

I actually prefer the number of divisions being expended. It gives more people more opportunity, and stops a champion just sitting out a year between fights denying progression. It doesn't make a Floyd Mayweather or a Ganardy Golovkin or an Anthony Joshua rising to the top. Class always prevails. It just means that if there are people playing games holding up fights, there are other pathways.
