Horse trainers charged with animal cruelty
A pair of Queensland racing industry workers have been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly castrating two horses without pain relief.

Two Queensland men have been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly castrating two thoroughbred colts without pain relief.

The men, a 69-year-old licensed thoroughbred trainer from Rockhampton and a 72-year-old licensed thoroughbred stablehand from Kenilworth, were both charged by the Queensland Racing Crime Squad.

The pair will face Rockhampton Magistrates Court on November 14 charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of using a prohibited thing under the Racing Integrity Act.

The stablehand has also been charged with possessing a dangerous drug and will appear at the Nambour Magistrates Court on that charge on December 3.

Both men's licences have been suspended.

How the world has changed. Imagine someone looking over my shoulder as I cut 100 bull calves in a morning. Have seen the rope drop put on horses and the operator has them up as geldings in 10 seconds. A shake and off to graze. I do agree that if a vet dies it he sedates, locally anaesthetises, and even crushes the vessels. BUT, some of the old hands were very good.

Yes, majestic, but that was the old days and no one new any better, or had the choice, or treatments,  to do it differently back then.  Time moves on and people have to move with it.
My Dad, as an old bushie with no access to vets, used to do the same, right down to sticking the tom cat,s head in a boot, and desexing him in 2 swift nicks.
Even humans suffered a lot for lack of medical aide back then.
But that isnt necessary now to treat animals that way.  We have moved on from those times, and we are expected to act better than that.

Problem is AA .   These Vets think they are God and charge accordingly.

My old Chihuahua had several very loose teeth recently .   I could have popped them out in 2 minutes with the long nose pliers but , poor darling .
I took her to the vet .
Come back in 4 hours .     YES A $950 was waiting for me .
      People can't afford them.

It's a Robbery world now days .    The Tradies are now demanding as much as the medico's .       Where does it end.

Anyone else hear that a rather overgrown yard has fallen foul in this regard and is under investigation - and not before time.

The racing industry is under constant attack by PETA and the RASPCA. It simply can not allow these people any sympathy.

If these accusations are true they should be rubbed out forever.

It’s ok to do it, as long as your too big to be prosecuted.

A complaint may have been made directly to police under the prevention of animal cruelty Act.

I don’t even know who it is, just a suggestion.
You would think if they had sufficient evidence then charges would be laid.

That’s just my two cents.
