When Smith came to the defence of Douglas Whyte’s ride on Scales Of Justice in the Kingston Town Classic which allowed the Weir trained Stratum Star take the prize, you could never doubt the “friendship” the two had. One the best jockeys in the world making a mistake like that, pleeeeeeeeeese........

Watched him trial the other day crooked, had a very choppy action it could have been the looseness in the ground but he never looked comfortable, just saying.

Ciaron was telling him up big time during the week. I wasn’t so sure, but he was spot on.

I wonder if they have a crack at another Cox Plate? Or would the Mackinnon Stks & Sandown Classic be more suitable options?

Finished off pretty well in the MV Cup.

The Sandown Classic over 2400m in 3 weeks will be perfect for him.

Top 3 finish would have got him into Melb Cup.

Even if he ran a placing today at MV, I wouldn’t have headed to the Melb Cup.

3200m at Flemington with 56kg....that’s not Humidor’s caper.

2400m WFA at Sandown....that’s right in his wheelhouse.

If I owned him he wouldn't have run today. He's a 2000m horse.

His record definately shows 2000m as his best distance.

But on the 3 occasions he’s stepped to 2400/2500m he’s run very well.

2nd - Tancred Stakes
5th - Caulfield Cup
4th - Moonee Valley Cup

They way he’s racing I just think the Sandown Classic would be ideal. And I don’t think he’s a G1 horse anymore. So the easier G2 at Sandown would appeal to me as the most winnable race this spring.

Plus that race today was basically a sit and sprint and he was in a horrible position (no knock on the jockey as that is just how the race panned out).

Hunting Horn will be well tipped by some now, but that race is nowhere near as a good a form reference as the Geelong Cup will be.

Not saying Hunting Horn and Downdraft can not run well or win a good race, just saying from the Cup view point that race is not the form line to follow!

He's won two races in the last two years, and has one or two wins left in him at best.

Back today in the Belmont Sprint 1400m in Perth. Pretty hot race to resume in but just a stepping stone for the Strickland Stks 2000m at the end of June. That looks like a really suitable race for him.

Surely his career is over
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

You’re joking right Jamal?
Did you even watch today’s race?
First up off a long spell, hitting the line nicely
Plenty of wins left in him
Sure he might not be winning a Cox Plate anytime soon, but he has plenty of decent racing left in him.
