Richard Laming, I think the only trainer to have done time for epo in Aus...

Stewards report from Saturday at Rosehill
RACE 6: Goldners Horse Transport Handicap 1200m Abohar – Mr Simon Homann, stable representative for trainer Mr R Laming and managing owner of Abohar, was questioned concerning a report from Racing NSW Surveillance and Intelligence Unit investigator, Mr N Ryan, who found a number of items in the feed room of a bank of on course stables, which were occupied solely by Abohar. Mr Homann gave evidence that he floated Abohar to Sydney, arriving at 4.45am on Friday morning. He added that this morning he obtained from a veterinary practice a syringe of saline and catheters, with a view to flushing out an eye duct infection, which had become apparent that morning. He stated, after taking advice from a Rosehill trainer that such actions would be regarded as raceday treatment, he did not proceed. Mr Homann denied any knowledge of a small vial containing a white powder, which was also found in the same area of the feed room. Abohar was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Officer and found suitable to race. Pre and post-race samples were taken from Abohar and the syringe and bottle were sealed for forwarding to the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory for analysis for prohibited substances. Mr Homann was told that he should have more promptly reported the eye condition of Abohar to Stewards. After the Stewards confirmed with the veterinary practice that they had supplied a syringe containing saline and catheters to Mr Homann this morning, the Stewards adjourned the inquiry pending the results of the analysis of all items and samples.

THE Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board yesterday disqualified Warrnambool-based trainer Andrew Homann for nine months after he pleaded guilty to a charge of administering a prohibited substance to one of his horses.

Samples taken from Irish Way at Warrnambool racecourse on September 9 showed an elevated TCO2 reading, after an initial sample taken that morning at Homann's stables was within permitted levels.

Homann admitted giving Irish Way "two handfuls" of bicarbonate soda that morning with the horse's feed, but could not account for a spike in the TCO2 reading between the first and second sample.

The board could find no evidence of foul play and was satisfied Irish Way was given an alkalising agent, either orally or through the use of a stomach tube, some time between the first and second samples being taken that day. Homann's disqualification will begin at midnight on Friday, January 23.

what are the odds we hear the white powder in the vial is all clear and there's nothing to see here and the trainer is not responsible for what his strapper does? oh yeah... that was in Qld in a G1 LOL

Andrew homann had 2 positives in 2009.
First one in Melbourne before he headed north
The other in Queensland to drenching one of Cameron matthews without his knowledge.

What does Andrew Homann have to do with the Laming stable?

The bloke involved is Simon Homann. It is unfair to blame Andrew when he is not involved in this matter.

Laming to face raceday treatment inquiry

Luke Sheehan@LukeDSheehan4:42pm O
,(
Trainer Richard Laming will face a stewards' inquiry at a date to be fixed, following the scratching of Patient at Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday due to alleged raceday treatment.

Stewards received a report from the Compliance Assurance Team that alleged the five-year-old mare, who was down to race in the Ladbrokes Handicap (1200m), had been treated with a nebuliser - a device that administers medication in a mist-like form to be inhaled into the lungs.

Chief steward of Wednesday's meeting, Rob Montgomery, explained that even if Laming's vet had sought permission to use a nebuliser, it would have not been permitted under the Australian Rules of Racing.

Trainer banned for 3 years on EPO charge
THU 11 NOV 2010, 2:48 PM AEDT
Trainer Richard Laming has been disqualified for three years at the completion of Australia's first thoroughbred EPO case.

Laming, 28, had pleaded guilty to seven charges in all, three of them dealing with the prohibited substance darbepoetin alfa (human erythropoietin, EPO) which was detected in his horses in out-of-competition blood samples.

The samples were taken from Benelli and War Dancer on June 11, 2009 and Benelli again on July 2, 2009.

His disqualification starts at midnight on November 30.

"This is the first case to come before the RAD board involving EPO," Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board chairman Judge Russell Lewis said in announcing the penalty.

"The board is mindful these are not administration cases, but nevertheless it is a case of considerable significance.

"Nothing less than a lengthy term of disqualification is the appropriate penalty."

Laming was fined a total of $2,750 on four other charges relating to prohibited substances found by stewards during an inspection of his Victorian training establishment at Clyde near Cranbourne.

His father and co-trainer, Bevan, who is based in Queensland, was fined a total of $1,000 on two charges relating to prohibited substances found at the Clyde property.

The three charges relating to the administration of darbepoetin alfa to Benelli and War Dancer were dropped.

Richard Laming has been training for eight years, while Bevan Laming has been training for 56 years, firstly in New Zealand and then Australia.

They became the first training partnership in Victoria in the 2007-08 season and have had feature race wins with Phaze Action in the 2009 Andrew Ramsden Stakes and Bashful Girl in the 2009 Eclipse Stakes.

Richard Laming explains raceday treatment scratching of Patient

By James Lamb 9 minutes ago

Trainer Richard Laming has apologised to the owners of Patient and given an explanation as to why the mare was scratched from race five at Sandown Lakeside on Wednesday.

Patient, the $4.40 second-favourite at the time of her scratching, was withdrawn by Racing Victoria stewards following a report from its compliance assurance team that the horse had been treated with a nebuliser.

Nebulisation is a treatment technique in which tiny droplets of aerosolised drugs are generated and inhaled by the horse. The droplets then shower out at various levels of the respiratory tract.

The procedure is predominantly used on horses with respiratory problems, such as allergies, airway irritation, inflammation and infections. It is banned on raceday.

"It was a simple mistake made by one of our senior staff members but the buck stops with me as the licensed trainer," said Laming.

"Nebulising treatment is a routine treatment that happens on a regular basis. It was as simple as the horse (Patient) was mistakenly put down on the treatment sheet along with nine other horses to be nebulised on Wednesday."

"Stewards came for a routine stable inspection and the horse was being treated so it had to come out - those are the rules of racing," explained Laming.

Laming expressed that he has already taken steps to ensure this sort of incident does not occur again.

"I'm very apologetic to everyone involved in the horse. I've gone ahead and made some changes so that this is the last time it happens."

Laming said he expects to be fined over the raceday treatment.

The Cranbourne-based trainer will face a stewards' inquiry at a date to be fixed.

Everyone is out to get an edge on the others & optimum lung function is a valuable commodity.
Nebulisers aren't new nor the use of Ventolin etc. so it's highly likely that he & others are microdosing.

Manufacturers of ventolin and other respitory inhalants have never had it so good since the advent of shavings and other dust incurring products, give me straw any day of the week, in the eventful and fabulous years I spent in the game, not one had a throat op.
