Just had one place over 900m in a Maiden at Mt Gambier - who on paper looks like she would want further.

Not sure what to make of this bloke. Don't want to knock him yet but he is struggling to get 30% w:r and barely has more than a handful of city winners. I wouldn't be enthusiastic in spending $25K this year .$10K last year was much more palatable.
Perhaps we have to wait until he has had 2 crops of 4y.o.'s complete their seasons
His best two horses are full brothers. Their close relation Little Phoenix is struggling, but he doesn't have EDL in his pedigree
Is it the Star Way line in EDL that is the conduit . Gives a cross of Neckar & thus makes 3lines of TICINO

Well our racing need speed.  But if you have a decent Encosta de Lago or Sadler's Well's line mare with that speed go for it.  The bad percentage for staying type stallions is always going to happen here.  We have 99% races 1600 and below.  So speed is essential for the mare.

This won't help his cause, thanks to Skydancer in another thread:

May 2019
Lindsay Park co-trainer David Hayes lamented the sale of a potential star to Hong Kong.

Group II winner Hawkshot will do his racing under the care of champion Hong Kong trainer John Size next season after Sun Bloodstock sold the three-year-old for an undisclosed sum.

Hayes said Hawkshot, a son of the Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente, was far from the finished article but would have been one of the stable’s best performers in his four-year-old season.

“I’m disappointed about it,” Hayes, who trained Hawkshot in partnership with his son Ben and nephew Tom Dabernig, said.

“I was really excited about training him for next year, because I thought he would be my weight-for-age horse.

“He was placed in the (Australian) Guineas, won the Autumn Stakes, didn’t go to Sydney to be spelled and looked magnificent.”

Hayes said Hawkshot’s previous owner, the Sun Bloodstock operation, must have received a “ridiculous” offer to part with the winner of three of 10 starts.

“He was raw and he would have been ready to show his best in the spring,” Hayes said.

“He’ll be a big loss to the stable because he’s a very exciting horse.”

Really nice boost for Fiorente today.

Hawkshot, who races as Beauty Legacy, made a winning debut in Hong Kong for John Size with Moreira on board. I'd been following his trials and he was looking great.

He will be up in the Derby markets now. This could/should be the horse to put Fiorente's name up in lights. Fiorente has had a quiet patch the last 6-9 months. Tough stretch for a young staying sire who served some ordinary books.

He has 8 in the Melb Premier Sale. 4 in the Top session and 4 in the Showcase session.

I hope he can push on from here, he was a super racehorse, beautiful blood, and a ripper type. I'm a fan, but it is a tough tough market.

I've been looking at the very interesting pedigree owned by Sun Stud's Melbourne Cup hero Fiorente - son of the great Monsun from the prolific Simon's Shoes family.
Simon's Shoes is a descendant of Shepherdess, also ancestress of the German mare Kaiserwurde to whom Monsun is line-bred 5 X 5. Shepherdess' third dam Miss West also features in Monsun via the Prix de la Salamandre winner Blue Skies

And later:
What a fascinating pedigree Monsun, sire of Sun Stud's Fiorente has - aside from his 5 X 5 cross of Kaiserwurde, he is 7 X 7 Friar's Daughter and 7 X 6 Aversion - the latter is the grandam of Arjaman who appears three times in both Monsun's sire and dam. This is the Maid Of Masham family which also appears in Monsun via Burgeff, Alchimist, Aditi, Graf Isolani, Allgau and Asterus - whilst Arbar is in Fiorente's dam.

Both Fiorente and his Grandsire Konigsstuhl are Family 5h, they have different stains of 5h and none of them have the carry the "Rough Shod" branches in their pedigrees. This is where EDL(Fairy King) comes to play here and I believe this is the key to Fiorente's initial success. If you look at Monsun's Melbourne Cup winners barring Fiorente, they all carry either Nureyev, Sadlers Wells or both in their pedigrees.

I think Sun Stud need to be more aggressive in attracting more mares with these stallions in their pedigrees.

We have named our Fiorente x Carlaxna now gelding 3yo, He is called ' Seamus Son', Husbands choice, the Two Irish parents and the same name as his Grandson Seamus, so there we are.
He is broken in, had a spell, had a conditioning prep at home on the treadmill, had another break and soon we'll be sending him off for a refresher with a breaker then into work.

He is very beautiful like his sire.
SC we should get the band back together, where are the Village people!
I intend leasing out a few small shares.

GAJ's fellow is by multiple Gp1 winner and successful sire Fiorente, from a mare who's has had three to race here for two winners and is herself sibling to an international Gp1 winner..

So why not send a PM to GAJ and enquire about leasing a small share.  I certainly will be.

Thanks, he is a good sort, considering he is just three days out of the paddock here, a quick tub, trim and grooming!
Late in the day and he was on the toe, so couldn't get the perfect shots.

From punters.com.au

The winner of the 2013 Melbourne Cup, Fiorente, has died.

The 15-year-old stallion passed away after a battle with illness.

Fiorente was brought to Australia from Ireland by legendary trainer Gai Waterhouse in 2012.

He finished a narrow second in the 2012 Melbourne Cup behind Green Moon but went one better the following year.

Fiorente was ridden by Damien Oliver when he won the Melbourne Cup.

Waterhouse was saddened by his death.

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Fiorente," she said on Tuesday night.

"He gave me the greatest joy of my racing life winning the Melbourne Cup in 2013. He was the most beautiful horse to train, so talented and handsome and he took everything before him."

VRC chairman Neil Wilson said: "The VRC extend our condolences to the connections of Fiorente including trainer Gai Waterhouse and Widden Stud."

"His 2013 Melbourne Cup win will always be remembered at Flemington through the sheer joy and emotions that the win provided.

"His legacy will always be a part of Flemington and will continue through his daughter Lunar Flare who has secured her spot in the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup."

Fiorente retired to stud in 2014, covering 186 mares in his first season.

"We're all devastated," said Phil Marshall who has worked with Fiorente since his retirement to Sun Stud then Widden Victoria.

"Fiorente was unbelievably tough, but at the same time an absolute gentleman.

"The staff who knew him well are understandably shattered; he will be greatly missed not only by us but by the whole industry.

"Throughout his career, he was able to produce horses with the same bravery and tenacity, which he had in spades."

Fiorente leaves us as the sire of 148 winners, 15 stakes performers with progeny earnings of $15m including Group 2 winners Lunar Flare, Stars Of Carrum and Hawkshot.
