We could well be going into an ice age. The last cooling period, known as the small ice age followed a couple of hundred years of warming. I don’t think any of us will be around to see it though.

(1) Preventing anthropogenic climate change requires collective, large-scale action.

(2) Collective, large-scale action is a left-wing, socialist agenda.

(3) Therefore anthropogenic climate change doesn’t exist.

Her Dad, the formerly out of work Actor/Producer/Green Activist you mean?

He's never had so much work since St Greta was canonised and the UN Climate Curch can't get enough of her ... so sad that she is being exploited by adults in this way!CryBeer

No shock to learn that she doesn't do any of her own social media posting stayer ... and her Dad and her paid up Indian Climate Alarmist "handler" Mr Prathap are the true authors is no real surprise is it? ... if anyone thought otherwise, they probably think she scripts her own speeches too!Wacko

... but we have seen her close down under the slightest pressure, when her "part is played" and she has to "ad lib" ... she's just like an autistic child when that happens Ouch ... no surprises there.Stern Smile

It's quite interesting Doc, as a rough guide the ice ages last for about 90,000 years and then 10,000 years of a warmer period. the last ice age finished 12,000 years ago

Little Ice Age

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search
For the most recent period much colder than present and with significant glaciation, see Last glacial period.
The reconstructed depth of the Little Ice Age varies between different studies (anomalies shown are from the 1950–1980 reference period)

The Little Ice Age (LIA) was a period of cooling that occurred after the Medieval Warm Period.[1] Although it was not a true ice age, the term was introduced into scientific literature by François E. Matthes in 1939.[2] It has been conventionally defined as a period extending from the 16th to the 19th centuries,[3][4][5] but some experts prefer an alternative timespan from about 1300[6] to about 1850.[7][8][9]

The NASA Earth Observatory notes three particularly cold intervals: one beginning about 1650, another about 1770, and the last in 1850, all separated by intervals of slight warming.[5] The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Third Assessment Report considered the timing and areas affected by the Little Ice Age suggested largely independent regional climate changes rather than a globally synchronous increased glaciation. At most, there was modest cooling of the Northern Hemisphere during the period.[10]

Several causes have been proposed: cyclical lows in solar radiation, heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in Earth's orbit and axial tilt (orbital forcing), inherent variability in global climate, and decreases in the human population (for example from the Black Death and the colonization of the Americas).[11]

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

You must be getting concerned about all this rain about to hit Second Chance. Wouldn't want all the trucks getting bogged. Predicting flash floods as well.

Well I helped fight about 20 fires, some large but most somewhat smaller, over the course of about 12 years.  And was communications officer at half as many again.  How's your total coming along fella?  Big smile

By the way:

BOM warns of flash flooding as rain brings bushfire relief across NSW

By Kevin Nguyen

Rain falling across NSW is offering some relief for fire crews battling blazes, but there are concerns the wet weather could cause landslides, flash flooding and contaminate water.

Key points:

·         The RFS says it's already seen "good falls" on some firegrounds

·         However, there are fears bushfire debris could prevent water from being absorbed into soil

·         The forecast rain is unlikely to replenish dams or break the drought in NSW

Cool, wet conditions ar good news for firefighters who have been battling hundreds of blazes across the state since September.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) predicted between 30 and 80 millimetres of rain would fall in some areas between today and Sunday.

The heavens opened over Sydney this morning and about 20-40mm is set to fall over the next few days.

Meanwhile, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said there were already "good falls" across some firegrounds.  RFS Inspector Ben Shepherd said he was expecting around 10-15mm to drop on most firegrounds, with the highest falls predicted in the Hunter.

"This won't be enough to extinguish the fires, but will take the sting out of them," he said.  "It's the most positive forecast the RFS has had in months and will give crews a chance to regroup and work on containment lines."

However, BOM forecaster Abrar Shabren said heavy rain could also lead to a significant run-off of ash, soil and other debris which have accumulated in the past months.  "Flash flooding is generally a concern with thunderstorms and ponding of water on roads," Mr Shabren said.

Mr Shabren said bushfire areas, particularly in elevated regions, were also "vulnerable" to landslides and toppling trees during thunderstorms because fires would have weakened the vegetation.

Great news for many.  However it's a double edged sword for others:

Hundreds of SES calls, 15m deep sinkhole opens as storms lash state

Add to shortlist

By

Storms that lashed the state have helped clear smoke from the sky in Melbourne but did little to contain bushfires in Victoria's east and threatened to make conditions more hazardous for firefighters.

"Both major parties, over the past couple of decades, played short-term political games with climate change rather than address its magnitude and urgency. We are left in the unimaginable position of still having no climate action plan, no energy policy, no national disaster plan, no waste-management policy, no fuel security strategy, and no transition strategies to achieve a low-carbon society by mid-century."Cry

"Many still completely misread Scotty from Marketing. He simply doesn’t accept either the magnitude or the urgency of the climate challenge. He is almost totally beholden to the fossil fuel lobby. Several of his senior staff are ex-coal executives; a couple of his key ministers have coal industry links; fossil fuel companies are major donors."
