Okay while I am sitting here watching ABC's dismal New Years Eve entertainment, if that is the word, I would like to post some thoughts.
First I would like to thank The Mayor and all the admins who have allowed me to post my ratings here for over 11 years. Thank you very much Second, while these ratings have developed into something more for me, I hope sincerely that they have given all the punters who have seen them the chance to improve their investment returns. Whether you used the ratings themselves or used them to get rid of horses in each race, I hope that they helped you out with your investments. Third, the decision to walk away from posting the ratings was not easy, but when I was given the opportunity I have been given I had to take it. While I will not be posting for every race, I will posting my own thoughts for the big races. To wrap it up I am going to give this venture 12 months and see where it leads. If it does not succeed then I will post the ratings for New Years Day 2024 next 31st of December. I have had problems with the group who I have been working with to get the Turfzone website and podcast up and running but it is coming and I will give an update when they are ready to go. Wishing everyone a great 2024 and continued success with all your investments from breeding, to racing and wagering!

Okay here are is my last group ratings, at least for the next 12 months.
Cambridge Stud Zabeel Classic 1. Aegon - 83. Huge test here at the 2000m. he is clearly the class horse of the race and while he will be better fitness wise here he will need a career best to win. Not sure he can win but at least a place hope. 2. No Compromise - 83. I thought his run in The Ingham was very good, especially the last section. Up to 2050m will suit, will love the softish track and drawn to be able to be put into the race. Still think of him as a handicapper but his Hill Stakes and Craven Plate runs see him in this with a good hope. 3. Prise De Fer - 84. Top effort last start at a distance that he only just gets. Back to the 2050m here should benefit and drawn beautifully. Interesting that Shinn is over to ride maybe an audition for the Te Akau racing stable in Australia. 4. Gino Severini - 78. Good win last start but my ratings have him better at the 1600m. Meets a good field here and not sure he is right up to this level so a no from me. 5. Platinum Invader - 75. I still think he will be one of the main contenders when the longer distance events roll around but on a soft track at 2050m top four is his best. 6. One Bold Cat - 84. Career best when winning last start. Stays at the distance range and while the gate is awkward expected to be right in the finish. 7. Mali Ston - 81. In career best form but trying the 2050m for the first time. Ran on okay last start. This is a good field so he will need to be right at his best but at least a place hope! 8. Campionessa - 90. Right back to her best last start. While she has not won at 2000m she has run a good sixth in an Australian Cup and was just nosed out by Prowess when giving her weight. Loves the soft ground and while she will need a career best she should get a lovely run and be hard to hold out! 9. Aquacade - 84. Just dropped the rating off her second up win last start. Should do no work early and she a genuine winning chance. 10. Kelly Coe - 76. Good win last start but up a few levels in grade here and the WFA does not suit. 11. Mazzolino - 75. Was safely held by Kelly Coe last start and so I can not have her here. Also it looks like she has not made the required improvement from her 3yo season. Ratings 1. No.8 Campionessa - 90 2. No.9 Aquacade - 84 3. No.6 One Bold Cat - 84 4. No.3 Prise De Fer - 84 5. No.1 Aegon - 83 6. No.2 No Compromise - 83 Add ins for any scratchings are No.1 & No.4 Recommended Bet: $30 win No.8 Campionessa $20 win No.6 One Bold Cat Precedent: No.6 One Bold Cat Summary: This looks a good balanced field. From the top No.1 Aegon is the best horse here, but his only run at 2000m was not great. No.2 No Compromise is a quality galloper and his 2000m form in the spring is good enough to win here, and he will like the soft track. No.3 Prise De Fer is a quality galloper and dropping to the 2000m suits. No.6 One Bold Cat was awesome when winning last start and looks well placed here. No.7 Mali Ston needs to run a strong 2000m but is in good form, No.8 Campionessa is a deserving favorite and while she has not won at the distance she has run some cracking races while No.9 Aquacade can improve here. There are no punters club bets this far out from the race! Good luck to all investors over the weekend and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy holiday and profitable new year!

Not quite gay, but I did have it for 20%. The center of a good day for me although if Lion's Roar or Attractable had have won it would have been the biggest Viiliers day since Soho Square won that race back in the early 90's.

Northerly Stakes
1. Zaaki - 86. Just needs to show up at 90% to win here. I can see the local jockeys making it hard for JMac but he looks the winner. 2. Trix Of The Trade - 82. Lovely run last start when he had to navigate through traffic. He needs to sit closer in the run from a middle gate and if he can do that he could place. 3. Zoumon - 80. Good run last start at the distance. The barrier is a shocker but he looks a leader and he could kick for a place. 4. Marocchino - 77. That fresh win sems to have taken the edge of his subsequent performances. Drawn well but needs a career best run to win here so I will leave him out. 5. Dom To Shoot - 72. Has always been just below the top grade but his last run was a super effort after his jockey lost his clock getting back too far. I would like to see him be able to sit closer from the gate but it looks like he will be back on the fence. Top four chance, but can win if he gets the breaks in the last 300m. 6. Forgot You - 77. If you have a short glance at his form this prep it is good. But he has found a better one in most runs and the form from his only win has not been spectacular. He can run without me. 7. Casino Seventeen - 75. To my ratings he is one of the runners here who is not a group 1 class galloper so I will let him go here. 8. Mojo Rhythm - 82. Backed him last start and watched him closely and he was very unlucky having to navigate through the field. He has not run at the 1800m and not sure he can use the inside gate but he is in good enough form to cause a surprise. 9. River Rubicon - 72. Not good enough at WFA here. 10. Bustler - 84. Drawn to get a lovely run. He is a better horse now than when he tried 1800m in the past and so not marking that as a negative. He is trying to do something which is very rare to do so I will take him on but no surprise if he won. 11. Alsephina - 81. Got home okay last start but no better than a few others in the Railway. Her only 1800m run was okay but it was not her best rating win. I will take her on. 12. Searchin Roc's - 75. Not quite going well enough to win here. 13. The Velvet Queen - 77. Not sure she is right at her best so far this prep but going okay. This is a good field so she will need a career best but she can improve. 14. Be Optimistic - 69. Not good enough. 15. Zipaway - 78. Stable is smoking hot at the moment and his last start win was good but he steps up to the big boys here. The barrier is a shocker and he will need a career best steer from Parnham but he can finish top four without shocking. 16. A Lot Of Good Men - 78. Thought he flashed late and looked like the 1800m would be ideal last start. I do not think he can win (my ratings have the seasons 3yo's as a below average group so far) and so while I think he is the better hope from the age group, just a top four hope for me. Ratings 1. No.1 Zaaki - 86 2. No.10 Bustler - 84 3. No.8 Mojo Rhythm - 82 4. No.2 Trix Of The Trade - 81 5. No.11 Alsephina - 81 6. No.3 Zoumon - 80 Add ins for any scratchings are No.16 & No.15 Recommended Bet: $30 win No.1 Zaaki $10 each way No.8 Mojo Rhythm Precedent: No.16 A Lot Of Good Men Summary: Okay we have one of those races where you either think the fav is a moral or it is wide open. Personally I think Zaaki could be 90% and still win but he will not be able to be any less ready. If you do not think the fav is a $2.50 hope then for me it is wide open. Out of the Railway I like No.2 Trix Of The Trade, No.7 Mojo Rhythm and No.10 Bustler. If Mojo Rhythm had drawn away from the fence I would have had him as the main danger to the fav but I am worried what work he will need to do in the last 300m. No.3 Zoumon's last run has proven a good form reference with Detonator Jack winning since. I am taking on Alsephina. Her last start she was the slowest last 600m out of the first five across the line, and her only 1800m run while a win was not her highest rated effort. I do not think the 3yo's can win but for me No.16 A Lot Of Good Men is the better hope as he looked a genuine 1800m horse at the end of the Guineas. Turfzone Punters Club Investments $200 win @ $3.00 No.1 Zaaki $50 win + $250 place @ $71.00 + $10.00 No.8 Mojo Rhythm Good luck to all investors this weekend!

Okay we sit at -$4520.00 coming into the next two group 1's.
TAB Classic 1. Callsign Mav - 81. Has drawn well to get a lovely run. Will need luck getting a run but should be in the finish. 2. Aegon - 79. Talented but injury prone galloper. Like him at 1600m first up and on softish ground. His last 1600m run is good enough to win this and if he can secure a good run from that bad gate he can win. 3. Brando - 79. In consistent form but on my ratings his best form is on soft 7 or worse tracks. Going okay but just a top four hope for mine. 4. Prise De Fer - 79. Took a few runs to reach fitness and then last start returned to something near his best. Drawn well but still not sure he is a winning hope but can put him in my exotics. 5. He's A Doozy - 72. His three runs back have shown me he is not a WFA level galloper so not for me. 6. Platinum Invader - 77. I actually think he is racing well at less than ideal distances. Not sure he can win here and dropping back 400m will not help. I do not think he can win but no surprise if he ran better than his current odds. 7. Belardo Boy - 76. Needs a soft 7 or worse condition. Still not drawn well and for me still needs to prove himself at this level. Place hope at best. 8. Riodini - 79. Has not had things go his way at his first two runs this prep. A drier track here and at his third up run he can improve sharply to add value to the exotics. 9. Habana - 81. Going well and gets his chance to grab a group 1 win. If the track stays in the soft range he will go close. 10. Lightning Jack - 77. He has talent and he has drawn well but he seems to be about a few lengths off WFA level. Maybe if the track deteriorates he can be in the finish. 11. Desert Lightning - 82. Good win fresh and looks well placed for this race. Will go very close. 12. Matscot - 75. Is improving but might have landed in this grade a little too soon. Watch for later. 13. Fashion Shoot - 78. Here is another galloper who looks to have reached a new high this prep. I am not sure what type of run she gets from the barrier but no surprise if she is fighting out the finish. 14. Malt Time - 84. Loved her run last start. Drawn to sit closer over the 1600m and she looks well placed here. 15. Faraglioni - 83. Top effort last start. Has to raise that effort to 1600m here and the barrier is terrible but she is in good enough form to be a hope here. 16. Town Cryer - 81. Drawn to lead and has a nice record at the distance. Definitely a top each way chance. 17. Flower Of Wanaka - 73. Going okay but not quite good enough to win here. Ratings 1. No.14 Malt Time - 84 2. No.16 Town Cryer - 83 3. No.11 Desert Lightning - 82 4. No.15 Faraglioni - 81 5. No.9 Habana - 81 6. No.1 Callsign Mav - 81 Add ins for any scratchings are No.2 & No.8 Recommended Bet: $20 win No.14 Malt Time $20 win No.16 Town Cryer $10 win No.15 Faraglioni Precedent: No.14 Malt Time Summary: For me the females have the advantage here. No.14 Malt Time, No.15 Faraglioni and No.16 Town Cryer are the three leading hopes. No.11 Desert Lightning is working up to a good performance while No.9 Habana is hitting this race at the right time. No.1 Callsign Mav and No.6 Prise De Fer are getting back to near their best. No.8 Riodini needs a drier track than last start and if he gets it third up he can go close. here. No.2 Aegon's last 1600m run is good enough to win this but he is off a 12 week break here against fully fit gallopers. He can win! Turfzone Punters Club Investments $150 win @ $5.50 No.2 Aegon $50 win + $200 place @ $14.00 + $3.80 No.14 Malt Time $50 win @ $12.00 No.11 Desert Lightning $50 win @ $23.00 No.15 Faraglioni |

Okay no change from last week as Dom To Shoot covered our bets with his 3rd placing so lets do the ratings for Perth's premiere sprint.
Winterbottom Stakes 1. Overpass - 85. Had an off day when taking on the cream last start. His win in the Quokka earlier this year was very good but he has to launch from a wider gate here. He is the class runner and can win but he will need everything to go right to win here. 2. Red Can Man - 79. His two latest runs have seen his rating drop from his triple figure win fresh. He usually does improve his effort at his fourth run of the prep so I can see him finishing top four or five but not a winning hope for me. 3. Savatoxl - 79. Has a good fresh record, but will need to run right up to his best here. I will let him run without me. 4. Hot Zed - 83. His last start win was awesome. Drawn to get a lovely run and no surprise if he won but more a place hope for me. 5. Resortman - 81. Might be better over slightly longer but with good pressure up front here, and with him looking to get a nice run off the fence, and his good fresh record I can make a case for him to at least place. 6. Laverrod - 76. Going alright but might find this a little too rich. 7. Snowdome - 81. Good win in the Prince Of Wales. If he had drawn better he would be higher rated but now he is a top four chance at best. 8. Triple Missile - 86. Liked his run last start and beaten by an in form sprinter at his fresh run. The WFA is a major drawback but drawn well, will sit close to the speed and he is a genuine hope to give Damien Oliver his last group 1. 9. Phanta - 71. He is part of our speed wall. From the gate he will set sail fast and early and try and keep going. Not for me. 10. Clemenceau - 74. Was well held at his Perth debut. he had quality when trained by the Hawkes team but I prefer to watch him here until he shows me something like his best form. 11. Man Crush - 76. Not sure 1200m is his ideal distance. Also he looks like he will be getting back and giving a start. Not here. 12. Go Forward - 77. Was a little unlucky last start but not sure he is quite up to this grade. 13. My Bella Mae - 77. Started favorite last start and was disappointing. Maybe out to 1200m will see some improvement but not for me at WFA. 14. Flying Missile - 69. No hope whatsoever. 15. Ripcord - 87. Looks beautifully placed here. Real quality win last start and should get a similar run to that here. Dropping to the 54.5kgs and sitting right behind good speed will see him in this right to the line. For me the one to beat! 16. Oscar's Fortune - 85. If he had drawn an inside gate he would have been the top rater. The combination of the other speed in this race and the barrier draw will make this gallopers mid race a huge barrier to overcome. If he can sit three wide with cover and get a few weaker sections midrace he has the ability to win. 17. Corn Cob - 73. Like him as a horse but this looks like a stepping stone to something at 1600m or 1800m. 18. Valency - 75. Nice mare but not quite up to this grade. Ratings 1. No.15 Ripcord - 87 2. No.8 Triple Missile - 86 3. No.1 Overpass - 85 4. No.16 Oscar's Fortune - 85 5. No.4 Hot Zed - 83 6. No.5 Resortman - 81 Add ins for any scratchings are No.7 & No.2 Recommended Bet: $30 win No.15 Ripcord $20 win No.8 Triple Missile Precedent: No.8 Triple Missile Summary: Down to four genuine hopes for me and then a few each way hopes. No.1 Overpass has things to overcome but he can win. No.8 Triple Missile has good form through the spring and he looks well placed. No.15 Ripcord is the one to beat for me off a strong win last start and he needs things to go right but No.16 Oscar's Fortune was very good last start and if he can overcome that wide gate he can give a good sight. I think No.4 Hot Zed, No.5 Resortman and No.7 Snowdome can all place. Turfzone Punters Club Investments $50 win + $300 place @ $7.50 + $2.50 No.15 Ripcord $50 win @ $11.00 No.8 Triple Missile $100 win @ $3.40 No.1 Overpass

Okay we sit at -$5010.00 coming into the last few group 1 races of the year so lets see how we sit for the big one in Perth.
Railway Stakes 1. Tuvalu - 87. His WFA form in Melbourne should see him go close here. Like him at the 1600m, drawn well to either lead or sit right behind the leader and looks well weighted. The one to beat. 2. Marocchino - 81. Won at $201 two back. Looke badly placed here as he gives some quality gallopers weight here. No. 3. Comfort Me - 76. He is racing okay this prep and he likes the track/course combo. The gate is a shocker and he will be getting back from there so for me not a chance of winning. 4. Dom To Shoot - 84. I thought his fresh run was awesome. Does like the 1600m and he has a good second up record. The draw is awkward but if he does no work early he can finish off. Top four hope at least. 5. Roots - 82. I know she won last time out but on my ratings she is about two or three ratings points of her usual level this far into her prep. This field has some smart horses in it and the fact that she has to give some weight and she has barrier 15 and she is first up in Perth I will take her on. Can not win but her class could see her place. 6. Trix Of The Trade - 75. Last years champion who is not racing well coming into this race. Combine that fact with the fact that not many horses have gone back to back in this race and I will be taking this galloper on. 7. Alsephina - 83. Not sure why she is favorite? Not well weighted, however she gets Pike to stick, she has drawn to get a very soft run and she has looked like the 1600m has been what she has wanted at her two runs in. She will need everything to go right for her to win but she has the quality to at least place. 8. Bustler - 83. Just no luck last start. Has a good record at the distance without winning. The problem I see for him is that like last start he has drawn low and he will get back. He will need luck in the straight but if he gets clear running he can go close. 9. Forgot You - 84. His last 1600m run was good in the Feehan where he was not far off Tuvalu. Meets him 5kgs better for being beaten 3 lengths there. Good win last start and at the weights he can run well despite the gate. 10. Karli's Karma - 80. Good win last start but she is stepping up to the top level here. Failed in this race last year and I will need to see her do something at this level before I back her. 11. Last Of The Line - 70. Good luck to connections but not for me. 12. Massimo - 74. Going okay but the combination of the barrier the 1600m and his previous form at this level, he can run without my support. 13. Mojo Rythym - 85. Sensational RJ Peters win last start. His issue will be getting back in this big field but he has a great 1600m record and he is coming here on the rise. For me he is the overs and is a t least a place bet. 14. Searchin Roc's - 83. Great win fresh to continue that record and forget about her last start when she was wide without cover. Drawn ideally has a good third up record and she can improve here but not a winning hope for me. 15. Startrade - 74. Not going well enough and has been found wanting at this level in the past. 16. The Velvet Queen - 84. A real eye catcher fresh. Better suited here out to the 1600m and if she had drawn better she would be higher rated. Can still win but will need everything to go right for the whole 1600m. 17. Casino Seventeen - 80. Unlucky in the Luckygrey. He has a very interesting record at the distance without winning. Drawn low and he could run a race if he gains a start. 18. Let's Galahvant - 79. Not going well enough and looks like he is a run short of peak fitness. 19. River Rubicon - 73. Not going well even if he gets a run. Ratings 1. No.1 Tuvalu - 87 2. No.13 Mojo Rythym - 85 3. No.16 The Velvet Queen - 84 4. No.9 Forgot You - 84 5. No.4 Dom To Shoot - 84 6. No.7 Alsephina - 83 Add ins for any scratchings are No.14 & No.8 Recommended Bet: $30 win No.1 Tuvalu $5 each way No.13 Mojo Rhythm $10 win No.16 The Velvet Queen Precedent: No.13 Mojo Rhythm Summary: A good quality field for Perth's major race with the addition of some quality eastern staters. No.1 Tuvalu is the one to beat with his WFA form in Melbourne irresistable. No.5 Dom To Shoot comes into this looking as though 1600m is ideal. No.5 Roots was good last start but my ratings say she is not going quite as well as she was in the winter. No.7 Alsephina is the favorite and while she has been racing well she is not well placed here at the weights. No.8 Forgot You was excellent last start and not a problem for me dropping back to the mile here, and on his last 1600m run he meets Tuvalu 5kgs better for being beaten 3 lengths at WFA. No.14 Searchin Rocs can improve out to the 1600m and No.16 The Velvet Queen would have been top rater if she had drawn better, but from that gate she will need to get back need luck to come late. For me the overs in the race is No.13 Mojo Rhythm. He is a backmarker who has drawn lowish and so he will need luck late but if he can get clear running late he can win! Turfzone Punters Club Investment. $100 win @ $5.50 No.1 Tuvalu $50 win + $100 place @ $26.00 + $5.00 No.4 Dom To Shoot $50 win + $100 place @ $51.00 + $8.00No.13 Mojo Rhythm $100 win @ $8.00 No.5 Roots Good luck to all investors!

1. No.2 Coeur Volante - 86 2. No.3 Skybird - 85 3. No.6 Joliestar - 83 4. No.8 Vivy Air - 81 5. No.7 Zourion - 78 6. No.1 Kimochi - 78 Recommended Bet: $30 win No.2 Coeur Volante $10 each way No.8 Vivy Air Summary: Only five genuine hopes for me. No.1 Kimochi, No.2 Coeur Volante, No.3 Skybird, No.6 Joliestar and No.8 Vivy Air. Skybird was awesome winning on Cox Plate day and she looks as though 1600m will be ideal. Couer Volante comes through the lead ins and has won well. No.8 Vivy Air was very good on the Prelude but she will be giving them a start and No.7 Joliestar was very good at Flemington when beating Kimochi home easily. Maybe the tope one can improve after her recent run but she needs to as she meets some quality fillies here. Turfzone Punters Club Investments $200 win @ $5.20 No.2 Coeur Volante $200 win @ $5.20 No.3 Skybird $30 win + $70 place @ $34.00 + $6.00 No.8 Vivy Air Good luck to all investors!

1000 Guineas
1. No.1 Vilana - 86 2. No.3 Strait Acer - 83 3. No.4 Bandersnatch - 83 4. No.5 Skew Wiff - 81 5. No.16 Wrote To Arataki - 80 6. No.15 Crosshaven - 78 Recommended Bet: $20 win No.1 Vilana $10 each way No.3 Strait Acer $10 win No.5 Skew Wiff Summary: Not sure the move has helped this race but the field is what it is. No.1 Vilana looks well placed although not sure he is well weighted. No.4 Strait Acer was very good two back and the beaten by three quality gallopers last start, the only issue for him is he will be getting back and giving a start but he can win. No.5 Skew Wiff I think is better suited at the 1400m. No.3 Bandersnatch has been racing really well and his 2.6 length finish behind Mr Brightside a few back is good enough to win here. No.11 Magic Time is good enough but that gate is a huge barrier. No.15 Crosshaven loves the 1400m and will be near the speed while No.16 Wrote To Arataki was awesome winning the Mannerism and she is a live hope at the weights. Turfzone Punters Club Investments $50 win + 100 place @ $12.00 + $3.50 No.3 Strait Acer $20 win + $50 place @ $34.00 + $6.50 No.4 Bandersnatch $50 win + $100 place @ $27.00 + $6.50 No.5 Skew Wiff $30 win @ $27.00 No.15 Crosshaven $30 win + $70 place @ $51.00 + $8.50 No.16 Wrote To Arataki

Okay we sit at -$3860.00 coming into the last group 1 of the Melbourne spring.
Riccarton Park New Zealand 1000 Guineas 1. Impendabelle - 83. I think she has been behind fitness wise but she looked like she was getting back to peak fitness last start. Drawn well and gets her chance. 2. Star Of Justice - 81. Has looked good in her two wins but she will need luck from the gate. If she can sit close without too much effort she can finish off. 3. Viva Vienna - 80. Steps up to the top level but deserves her shot. Needs to improve but looks in a good race to do so. 4. Chantilly Lace - 79. Going well but to me she looks an ideal 2000m filly. Can finish hard for a top four hope. 5. Luberon - 77. Just not good enough when stepping up in grade last time out. She did look to ovaerrace there so she can improve but not a winning hope here. 6. Bozo - 77. She has had her chance in this grade before. Not for me. 7. Illicit Dreams - 77. Again she has been consistent but has not been able to win, and from the gate here she will find it hard. Top four hope. 8. Mary Shan - 81. I thought she was unlucky last start. If you think Impendabelle is a hope then you have to give this filly a hope. Top each way chance. 9. Molly Blloom - 81. Is in good form coming into this. Can win. 10. Tulis - 79. Usually rolls forward but from todays gate she may need to drop back. That might suit but I have a few in front of her. The 1600m has looked like it would suit her so no surprise if she can improve. 11. Epee Beel - 73. Looks to be more a Oaks filly so I will wait until the longer distance. 12. Lady Sass - 75. Comes through the lower grades and is racing well, but she steps up in grade here. Prefer to watch. 13. Chica Mojito - 76. I like her as a racehorse, and I think the 1600m will suit. The draw is bad but she was always going back anyway however there is plenty of speed engaged here. Might be the longer priced runner to add value to the exotics. 14. Grande Gallo - 77. Going okay but not here. 15. Quintabelle - 73. No. 16. Warning Signal - 72. Not here. 17. Sugar - 70. Making up the numbers 18. Firestorm - 69. No. Ratings 1. No.1 Impendabelle - 83 2. No.2 Star Of Justice - 81 3. No.8 Mary Shan - 81 4. No.9 Molly Bloom - 81 5. No.3 Viva Vienna - 80 6. No.4 Chantilly Lace - 79 Add ins for any scratchings are No.7 & No.5 Recommended Bet: $50 place No.8 Mary Shan Precedent: No.1 Impendabelle Summary: Long tail here. No.1 Impendabelle has looked behind fitness wise all prep but showed peak fitness last start in her win. No.2 Star Of Justice is going well and can win. No.8 Mary Shan and No.9 Molly Bloom will go close, while No.4 Chantilly Lace and No.13 Chica Mojito can add value to the exotics. Turfzone Punters Club Investments $500 place @ $2.50 No.8 Mary Shan
