Have Vinlago in Race 1 at Flemington. Goes fast but don't know how far. Plan was to sit outside the leader/fav but that could change if the gale force northerly might expose him to a buffeting.
Also have Tharsis in Race 3 at Murtoa. Jarred up on debut and won't find the going any kinder today. Drawn awful on a tight track but still needs to show something.

Well what a disappointing day with so much in the offing. Vinlago never comfortable and pulled up lame. Tharsis and two others had a speed battle from the outset about 4-5 lengths in front of the rest, we still led with 50 metres to go but finished 5th beaten less than a length. The two other tearaways ran last and 2nd last, so no plaudits for the three jockeys concerned.

So, how do they manage to keep all the colts up and racing well?Everyone with a well bred colt seems loathe to cut them these days. I reckon one trot up on that bitumen would have got the message through.

thanks Gay, see what the bloods say. he is on the grass for two weeks at least. i had a plan to give him two weeks off then a slow prep with a race in around 7 weeks. I think i will stick to it unless the bloods tell me otherwise. he looks an absolute treat so I am not keen to tip him out unless he tells me different. He is a happy horse, loves his work etc. if he appears to be needing the break he will have a good long break and get ready for the return to the synthetic next year......

Two starters today: Mottram (bit of a ratbag who may have run his race before they jump) in Race 1 at Moe, Barringer (quick but pretty dumb) in Race 1 at Pakenham.
Rain affected tracks, both on debut, just hope they show something.
