Who is training him?
He reminds me of a horse I bought (but by New Approach) who also had a similar dam line. We gelded him too late, he was very top heavy, and we ended up with knee problems throughout his career. He was talented but unsound. I liked this one at the sales but he made too much for me - good luck with him! |

My first thought upon seeing the picture was, he looks Storm Cat-ty. Not at all surprised to see that he has both Storm Cat and Gone West on his damside. The head and neck set that look kind of heavy, etc.
Good luck with him!

Agree with GAJ, also like his sloping shoulder and big rear end. Very strong all over. Built like a sprinter, look forward to seeing him race fit |

Sister Dot tails can ruin an overall impression for sure, I like to imagine it is there
His head does look better in the second photo, Second Chance, did you feel between his jowls?

Thanks for everyone's input.
In answer to comments/questions: . agree he could get heavy topped and something to keep a close eye on . is with Robbie Griffiths . Robbie always does the jowl testas a matter of routine.

A prominent local trainer has a Dawn Approach 2yo colt, running on Monday at Ballina, He has a very high opinion of him, The colt is a heavy type too.

Is that just the way he stands or does he have big fetlock joints/rear ? His back legs look funny but I am not clever enough to say why ??

He is pleasing to the eye, camped under, nice walk with a big easy stride, but appears to toe out nearside fore. |

There just might just be something not quite right behind AA, but then again it might be a poor shot. The moving video might help decide either way.

Didn't see the toe out GAJ. Will have another look. But my worst fears confirmed: heavy and possibly camped under (ie sickle hocked). A real pity because the prematurely deceased sire is going just great.
Thanks to all. ps James Harron might possibly say he ticks all the boxes.

Do not ask me I have never known anything about horse confirmations, I was only interested in following betting markets, which I assumed took into account a horses confirmation, its fitness, its jockey ,its barrier , its weight etc etc etc. As a punter my bottom line was the money in my pocket after betting on any race. Good luck to those who were / are a better judge of horse flesh than me, as long as you can gain some financial advantage I am not going to argue against your superior knowledge.

Like I said, I am not very clever. But the way his backs are under, they look like an over worked clydie, who has pulled one too many heavy loads , and who had bad legs to start with. It could also be the way his farrier has done his feet.

This horse looks to me to have a very powerful compact frame. He is short coupled, powerful hindquarter, deep girth, good shoulder, good muscle in foreleg. Long well shaped neck.
Trying to pick faults I thought thick through the gullet, but actually you cant tell on that angle. Then I thought heavy frame, not enough bone. But on zooming in, he does have good strong bone.
I think hes a ripper! |

I thought he presented well , he is a closely coupled young fella but having a look at the video a nice fluent walking type , the timber looks ok to me and he really looks like he's thrown to the dam and I've never laid eyes on her , ( has that Savabeel look ) you could do a lot worse if you were the buyer imo.

Let us know your verdict SC, he has more good than bad and his heaviness will grow out with work one would think, as for the toe, may be his shoe is on wrong and an optical illusion.

I think all the comments just go to show how impossible it is to judge a horse by one photo & the importance of handles & photographer when taking them
Fwiw, he's not athletic enough for me to look further |

I think most of our yearlings are, goldy, unlike the NZers! I distinctly remember a foreman of Weirs' who'd worked for all the top studs, telling me how tough the scrawny looking, farm bred ones were vs. sale prepped yearlings.
Apparently they'd come in light, grass fed & gutless looking but after a light prep then spell, they'd bloom & rarely have soundness issues. Having worked seen 1st hand how all these big studs worked, he firmly believed almost all were sub laminitic by the time they hit the sales, due to over feeding & under worked. |

Agree with most of the above re NZ youngsters, however my NZ informant told me 6 weeks ago, at the start of yearling prep, that this bloke was already very heavy.
So for better or worse aren't going there.

Maybe if he wasn't so closely coupled people might not think that way ? just a thought fwiw. ( we shall see who buys and watch progress , if any lol )
