What are the opinions of the Galileo stock in general? Is he still shuttling to Australia?

Got great mares and hasn't delivered. The results from his first crop 2 year old performers were much to the credit of those mares.
As often happens, the cracks begin to show when they turn 3 which is when their 'unsuitability' to this region starts to expose itself.
Another Sadlers Wells flop downunder.
The mares can only carry them so far.
GIVE IT A BREAK.

I think he throws a lovely type never seen an ugly one yet, Watch him throw a really good one now since you have called him 'unsuitability' to this region , it's always the way. BTW what stud do you run GIAB? And what stallions do you stand???

It will likely happen Everitt and generally does because the standard of mare he got was that good, and in numbers, that the odd one will be fortunate enough to gather a greater proportion of it's mothers characteristics than it's dads.
Up to 100%.
GIVE IT A BREAK.
p.s. your other points/questions weren't relevant to the discussion.

His progeny seemed a mixed bag to me, certainly a few ugly ones amongst them, but they all leave fuglies. Agree with GIAB re the Sadlers factor.

Actually folks, GALILEO was a very fast classic horse (from memory he broke The Epsom Derby record ) so contrary to the 'accepted' opinion that most Sadlers Wells prefer the sting out of /cut in the ground, imo he was THE one of his sons I would have expected to produce some classy runners in OZ / NZ when put over our mares !!!
A bit like EL PRADO who has definitely done the business in North America ......... and then we have the lesser performed but very good bread and butter stallion here in NZ in VICTORY DANCE (3/4 bro to THEATRICAL) who has left his fair share of SWs......
I'd be more inclined to give GALILEO more time to prove himself...... but of course, one man's opinion

Here here, he's only had a few crops to the races. The best is yet to come?

Over 12 years since this thread has been touched.... Galileo broke new ground—or ice—as his son Wargrave landed the 81st Longines Grosser Preis von St. Moritz Feb. 15, the most prestigious event of the White Turf meeting which takes place on the frozen lake at St. Moritz in Switzerland each spring.
The George Baker-trained colt broke smartly and led rounding the home turn before staying on well to win by two lengths. The 4-year-old snow specialist was bred in Ireland by Orpendale and Drakenstein Stud and is the first foal out of the group 3-winning sprinter Scream Blue Murder, a daughter of Oratorio raced by Gaynor Rupert and Sue Magnier. Scream Blue Murder also has a 2-year-old full sister to Wargrave who has yet to make her first start. |

A couple of questions on this stallion:
1. How many mares does Galileo serve each year? 2. How many of each foal crop go to Aiden/Joseph O’Brien? Every time I see a Galileo win a big race in Europe/UK/Ireland, it seems to be in the O’Brien yard. |

Coolmore's champion racehorse and stallion Galileo has died aged 23. Speculation surrounded the health of Galileo in recent times and the breeding giant confirmed on Saturday the dual Derby winner was euthanised on humane grounds due to a "chronic, non-responsive, debilitating injury to his left fore foot". “It is a very sad day,” said Coolmore proprietor John Magnier in a statement. "But we all feel incredibly fortunate to have had Galileo here at Coolmore. "I would like to thank the dedicated people who looked after him so well all along the way. "He was always a very special horse to us and he was the first Derby winner we had in Ballydoyle in the post M V O’Brien era. "I would also like to thank Aidan and his team for the brilliant job they did with him. "The effect he is having on the breed through his sons and daughters will be a lasting legacy and his phenomenal success really is unprecedented.” |

Johannes Vermeer becomes the fifth son of Galileo to stand in Australia and just the second in Victoria, joining Highland Reel, who is based at Swettenham Stud. His other sons include Adelaide and Churchill, who are represented on Coolmore's roster, while Kellstorm is based in Queensland.
