ROSEHILL RACE 8 – GOLDEN SLIPPER BEATEN JOCKEY COMMENTS

Hugh Bowman (Rivellino): “Great run. He needs to jump better than that. After that he gave me the most superb ride. With a bit more luck I think he could have been right in the finish.”

Michael Dee (Devil Night): “Great run. Ended up wide down the straight. Not many horses have made up good ground today.”

Tim Clark (North England): “Got into a good spot. Travelled well throughout. Just when I presented, just maybe missing that run in a high pressure, we were on the back foot a little bit. He tried hard.”

Mark Zahra (Tycoon Star): “Had the right run. When the gap came, he couldn't produce it.”

Tyler Schiller (West Of Swindon): “I thought he did it quite tough. Got chopped out at the start. Was a lot further back than I hoped. Just had to make a wide run. Probably ran out of fitness lacking that run last week. Really happy with him going forward topping him off for the Sires.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Beiwacht): “First furlong was nice, but it was a disaster after that. No fault to him though. A nice horse raw and learning. Nice next prep.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Skyhook): “I thought he ran well. Got out into a nice spot. Was able to get into the clear. Even pace coming home. Best is still ahead of him next preparation.”

James McDonald (Wodeton): “Super. He is such a good horse.”

Zac Lloyd (King Of Pop): “He is a lovely colt. He has the most beautiful attitude for a colt. We aimed for the spot we thought we might get. Just didn’t get cover. Gone really well. A better horse in the future.”

Tommy Berry (Quietly Arrogant): “Not sure what to make of him today. Disappointing.”

Josh Parr (Farcited): “Unfortunately it was all a bit much for him today.”

Jason Collett (Within The Law): Fell.

Blake Shinn (Tempted): “She ran incredibly. I think she should have arguably won the race. Momentarily got our run impeded when North England and Bellazaine came together. I think that cost us the race. A tough one to swallow. She ran a great race.”

Regan Bayliss (Bellazaine): “Very proud of her effort. The top three home were those drawn down low not doing much work. Had to offset that wide barrier. Pleased with the way she stuck on.”

Thomas Stockdale (Military Tycoon): “Couldn’t have asked for a better run. Landed in the 1x1 with ease. Travelled nice and strong. Gave a good initial kick but struggled the last 200m. Will continue to mature into a nice 3yo.”

Have always thought Rivellino was the Sires/Champagne horse and that was a perfect lead in for Randwick!

I am not going to second guess John Hawkes, but I hope that in the future if a Blue Diamond winner who has not had a run in Sydney runs between the Diamond and the Slipper. Not saying devil Night would have won, but he would have been in the finish if he had the previous experience.

I would expect to see Bellazaine and Military Tycoon in the Percy Sykes and they will bring the right formline!

The Devil would have been right in it with a barrier as well. 3 wide the trip, 8 wide around the turn

Last to fourth Rivellino's was a grand run.  Would of liked him to join She Will Reign and Mossfun as slipper winner picks but as you say maybe one of the next two races.

Did anyone find out why Within the Law went through the fence?

Within The Law – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.Stewards interviewed J. Collett, rider of Within The Law, which crashed through the inside running rail approaching the 800m. J. Collett stated that when racing at the rear of the field he began to direct the filly over toward the running rail to follow Rivellino. He said, however, that as Within The Law proceeded nearer to the rail the filly appeared to panic, became unbalanced and ran through the running rail, causing him to be dislodged. J. Collett appeared to have sustained no apparent injury and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the lateral coronary band of the near-hind leg and superficial abrasions to both front legs. Stable representative Mr L. Hilton was advised that Within The Law would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

He has nevver had any problems jumping before ?   I think Hughie was having a little doze after his plane ride from Honkers.

Be interesting to see if WTL has a jockey change. Stable thanked everyone for reaching out, said she’s absolutely fine just a few superficial scrapes. Lucky horse and jock! It looked catastrophic at the time

Yes I knew the horse was ok she followed the pack on the inside.  But too far away to know about the jockey.

I like comparing what was written year on year, hence the merge Big smile

"Legitimate reason": Golden Slipper dream still alive for Incognito

The Golden Slipper dream remains alive for million-dollar colt Incognito in the wake of his shock showing in Saturday's Canonbury Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Resuming on the strength of his slashing Breeders' Plate success last October, the son of 2021 Slipper hero Stay Inside was expected to further solidify his claims for the world's richest race for two-year-olds in the Group 3 feature.

But after looming large at the 250 metre mark, Incognito, which started as an even money favourite, faded late, finishing fifth in the six horse field behind $1.7m colt Hidrix.

Upon returning to scale, jockey Tommy Berry told trainer Michael Freedman the horse had made a "gargling noise" pulling up, suggesting he may have flicked his palate which in turn caused respiratory issues.

Owner James Harron said further veterinary advice had supported that conclusion which now has connections taking a glass half full approach to their Golden Slipper aspirations.

"The good news is that we've got a legitimate reason for the performance on Saturday," Harron said.

"Tommy does everything with the horse and knows him inside and out and told me he was super confident at the 300m mark and was travelling with a lap full of horse.

"Naturally what happened late came as a bit of a shock but what would have been worse was not having something to fix and some answers."

Harron said all things being equal, Incognito will head towards the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 21 in a bid to get his Golden Slipper aspirations back on track.

"He ate up last night and has been checked over by the vets and we've got a happy and healthy horse," Harron said.

"Having spoken to people today, when they displace their palate it can impact 30 per cent of their airway which is obviously crucial under pressure.

"Michael will look at a tongue tie and a tongue control bit with him now and work out what's best moving forward.

"The silver lining is that it's happened now and we've got time to manage it rather than in a few weeks' time.

"He's already a Breeders' Plate winner with prize money in the bank so it makes it a bit easier.

"Right now the plan is still the Silver Slipper in three weeks time."

Incognito headed into Saturday's Canonbury Stakes as an $8 equal favourite for the Golden Slipper but was wheeled out to $26 in the race aftermath.

It was a different story for winner Hidrix, firming into an $8 equal favourite after as much as $201 was offered in the lead up to his racetrack debut.

Yet despite the setback, Harron, who owned 2016 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, isn't giving up on his star colt's Slipper aspirations.

"We know the talent the colt has – he's a weapon," Harron said.

"Tommy called me after he worked him last Saturday week and said it'd take a really good one to beat him (in the Canonbury).

"Yesterday was a setback but he's in the right hands with Michael and his team.

"Everything we saw for the first 900 metres was what we wanted to see yesterday, he really looked to be travelling.

"We've got some answers for what happened late and I'm sure we'll see a different horse in three weeks time."

Im so surprised theyre doing this to him. Considering the margin he put on Zambales. I know it was a slow race but he was pretty good home.

If he was going to the Slipper I think he would be rightful fave right now.  The story I heard was that there were "immaturity issues", so he was turned out.

I understand (correct me if I am wrong) he may be Hong Kong owned, he is also a gelding, so as much as a Slipper is a rich prize, winning in HK in features may be seen as something even bigger.

If not HK it may just be they found similar to Big Sky and tipped him out, that is fair enough and in the best interests of the horse.

From yesterdays racing we see some movement in this race.

The fillies ran quicker time but still below average (on a slow 6 but still not great).

I can see more improvement from the males race. Campione D'Italia might be the Militarize this season but he can improve into the Slipper. Central Europe was unlucky (jockey outridden), and off his debut he can improve. Now needs to go the Shinzo path but if he had won yesterday he would now be the favourite for the Slipper.

Warwoven was okay yesterday just knocked up late and was not beaten far, still in the mix!

The Queenslanders went alright yesterday and while the male was close to winning the others around him have more improvement to come.

The Victorians should be very bullish. No Victorian has won since Crystal Lily, but Great House, Streisand and Stretan Ruler give them a nice arsenal.

Next weekend will be interesting!

Expecting Stretan Ruler, Great House and Zambales all to run. The first two may come to the Todman with Zambales in the Sires (yet to be confirmed).

Central Europe was good for a first starter, but I doubt anyone is losing any sleep around either of the Sydney Sat races, blanket finishes and moderate times.  Oh and how the hell is Warwoven still favourite (clearly) after that?.

For anyone wondering I am on Guest House.

Central europe was a good think beat on the weekend and should be the top seed, if he was going to get a run.

I like agrarian girl right now to be honest. The form from the lonhro plate has been soli, with both horses that won the two 2yo races this year winning on the weekend. Lady moscato wasnt disgraced in a blue diamond either.

Guest house and eternal Warrior probably are the tip 2 seeds from victoria but you rarely see horses come from the backc and win a slipper, which probably rules out eternal Warrior.

Probably my top 4 at thisi stage.

I’ve had a little bit on WOLF GAP scratchy - 2yo colt by Palace Pier out of the Snitzel mare Bandol

Both trials were very good imo prior to his debut

Which was a fortnight ago @ Warwick Farm (1100m) snagged back early from the sticky gate making his move before the corner MOWING down the (fav) who in contrast had the cosy run in transit

A lot harder on Saturday tho in the Todman but am looking for something @ decent ODDS just in case Central Europe doesnt make it …..

Fireburn, Farnan, She Will Reign, Capitalist all were pretty superior.  Yes maybe one faulter but all other runs wins.  Not as good as Pierro but certainly not hard to find.  This year!  Might need to back the entire field to get the winner.
