Saw the best race I have seen on the track for years last night.

The Mens 3000m Steeplechase was pretty uneventful until they got to the home turn and then the defending world champ kicked clear, but the New Zealander, Gordie Bleamish came over the top and grabbed victory in the last three bounds.

If you missed it, I highly recommend a view!

This finish in the marathon wasn't bad either.

After 26.2 miles of slogging, Alphonce Felix Simbu of Tanzania and Germany's Amanal Petros both crossed the finish line with the same time of 2:09:48.

But Simbu was awarded the top prize by the tiniest of margins after overtaking his opponent on the final straight.

It's on 2 different FTA channels for some reason - 7 Gem and SBS.

Duplantis incredible as usual.

Still amazes me that a 5 foot 7 sprinter - some say he's 5' 6"Wink - can run 9.77. Although there are great short women sprinters, never seen it in the men's event.  I wonder how many strides he takes over 100m?

No idea how many strides he takes but he is pretty quick. Ran a 100m exhibition against Warholm last year in 10.37s.

Ch 9 / 92 in Melb seems to be cutting back their coverage so perhaps no one is watching which is a waste of Matt Hill.  The SBS Ch 31 melb racecaller (coverage starts 7.730 tonite) is nowhere near as good as matt hill

I used to love athletics. A couple of Olympics I took a week off to watch the athletic events. Didn't need to go on holidays, that was my idea of heaven.

Not much interested in swimming.

You sound like me Whale. As a kid used to have all the Athletics books, the records all memorised......Zatopek, Kuts et al....loved it. Also planned my holidays around the Olympics

Then just went off the boil for me.....but really enjoying these World Championships. No issues with the SBS telecast....very good

I thought Olympics were huge when I was a kid. Vague memories of Atlanta being on despite being very young. Crystal clear memory of Cathy Freeman, torch coming to town etc from Sydney. Some level of interest in Athens 2004 - spent hours & hours on an Athens Olympics video game. Knew when Winter Olympics were on probably spurred by Alisa Camplin and then later Bradbury. But since I haven't give two hoots. I know London had an Olympics and just thinking about it now Rio but really don't care. At the time I probably tune into a couple events if an Aussie is in it or Novak Djokovic for the tennis. Could not tell you a single thing about Winter Olympics though.

It was wonderful, it was on at the same time as the pole vault. 👏👏

I have always been more a distance track event lover than the sprints.

That inclusion of stamina and endurance over pure speed is what I love.

Thes world champs have been great.

Du Plantis is just on another stratoshpere, I am sure when he dies and they do the autopsy he will be some alien life form.

Seville continuing the success of Usain Bolt's trainer.

The field events have been full of quality and that marathon PT was one of the most intriguing events I have ever witnessed. For the last two kilometers I was thinking which runner will drop off, which runner will drop off, but they seemed to keep spurring each other to keep running.

Funny event Pole Vault....almost as if it is one discipline that is in its early development.

The great Sergey Bubka won 6 World Champs between 83 & 97.....gradually increasing his height from 5.7 m to 6.01 m

Duplantis just jumped 6.30 m

I prefer races 400m+,  1500m is my fav.

All time favourite runner Hicham El Guerrouj.

Used to love watching the Diamond League on free to air, Sunday mornings maybe on SBS?

Yes, it is the only track and field discipline in which taking testosterone negatively affects performance.

Good on him he gets big money for breaking the world record and so increases the height by the absolute minimum more then the record when he is certain of winning
Seem to recall that Bubka did the same in his day

What a darling Jessica Hull is.....great to see her hang on for third in that 1500m Final

You could see how happy all those girls were after the finish.....hugging each other.....she is a stand out for me

Ran the race of her life tucking in behind the best Kenyan girl who ended up winning....well done Thumbs Up

NZ rules track and field.Shocked

They should leave a few hurdles in the flat 400m for Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. Give the other women a chance.

I wish someone would break a few of the women's anabolic doper world records, which is every flat race from 100m to 800m.Evil Smile Maybe Sydney can remove one of them tomorrow. Probably not but here's hoping.

if Gout Gout wants to win a gold medal he will have to go to 400m or even 800m eventually. I can't see him winning at 200m.

These athletes are completely hopeless at running in a pack. Thank God they aren't jockeys. There would be horses down in every race.

Gout Gout surely has a lot of growing and muscling to do ?

He looks like a kid against those blokes. Imagine his size in 3 years time.
