No Fastnet Rock? Seems most unlikely but the search can't find one if there is
![]() Fastnet Rock retiredLegendary stallion Fastnet Rock has been retired from stud duties, Coolmore Australia confirmed on Saturday morning. The son of Danehill, who was foaled in 2001, was a force on the racetrack for trainer Paul Perry, winning six races including two Group 1s, the 2005 Lightning Stakes and Oakleigh Plate. But it was in the breeding barn that Fastnet Rock became a household name across the thoroughbred world, siring no fewer than 43 G1 winners around the globe and 193 Stakes winners in total.
G1 winners Avantage, Mosheen and Atlantic are among those, while as a broodmare sire, he has produced the dams of Santa Ana Lane, Zougotcha and Warm Heart. "Fastnet Rock has been a once-in-a-lifetime horse and we are immensely grateful for the incredible journey he has taken us on," said Coolmore's Tom Magnier. "I hope he will enjoy a long and happy retirement here at Jerrys Plains. His legacy will endure for generations to come and we look forward to seeing his influence continue to shape the future of the sport. "His son Acrobat was the fastest two-year-old ever at Randwick over 1000m and if his first foals are anything to go by, we'll be hearing a lot more about him in the future." |

Hmm, long and happy retirement, we shall see. Cynical me says he is gone in no more than 1 year

Looks like his mind and body have been on the decline the last 3 or 4 years .
His fertility or desire just not there recently ,only served 16 mares last season , writing was on the wall . Hopefully at 23 he gets at least a year to smell the roses and some company in a nice paddock after all horses are naturally herd animals. If not another Horse, a goat or grazer to connect with .

Seems to me, unsuccessful, infertile or aging stallions seem to have a lot of colic, founder and paddock accidents. Funnily enough, or not, they can all be man induced

With his death this week, thought I’d look at his racing record.
A pretty handy career, but aspects I’d forgotten about were that he was winless as a 2yo and in fact it took him 9 starts before he broke his maiden Summary: 19-6:7:2 Prizemoney: $1,724,100 |

agree. There really isn't one that I can see has done a really good job. Smart Missile and Foxwedge are probably the best of them.

about the only other stallions from his female family, going back to 1896 i found is Indian Conquest- Exbury- Princelone-Convamore, so perhaps little wonder that he never left a top rating Sire Son, got a faint glimmer of hope in nz with the G2 winner Hilal from the Show Dancing - Best in Show 8f Family, was hoping he would stay here, with the like of Umatilla - Al Maher- Redoute's Choice- Rubick- Manhattan Rain - Hurricane Sky - Try My Best- Almond Eye- El Gran Senor- Xaar- Domesday- Spinning World etc - from the same family, one would think He's a chance of succeeding
