Probably only going to Yulong to see their new fellows More Than Looks and First Settler.
Unless the better half wants to go to to a potentially boring, over scripted Darley (Vic) parade to enjoy a couple of sparkling wines and some nice nosh. ![]() |

Went down for the parade yesterday.
Growing Empire hadn't entirely let down but looked a nice type to my eye. His attitude was a bit off but that might have been down to the crowd. Really good value at an advertised $22k for a 3 times stakes winner who was extremely lucky not to have won at Gp1 level. More Than Looks had only arrived at the stud two days before but paraded in a marvellously relaxed manner. Looked a quintessential miler and reckon he could add strength to sprinter type mares and some acceleration to middle distance types. Another very well priced in the market imo. First Settler is the stud's bargain basement newbie, and they're perhaps hoping he'll prove half as successful as his old man Written Tycoon. Was amazed he stood with his front hooves more than a foot apart and was toed out to boot. Not for me thanks however for a discounted $11k more than a few are probably entitled to give him a go provided their mares are correct types.

FF I was at one end of the parade area so the sun wouldn't get in my eyes. I did spot a woman among the crowd sitting in a folding chair about 50m away at the other end of the parade area who I immediately thought might be she who must be obeyed. Forgot all about the possibility when the next stallion entered.

Good move!
She had a great day. We try to get her off the farm at every opportunity 😀 but Chris made the call and she had to go. She did say they were only really looking at stallions around $20-25k max. Other than going away for sales she never leaves the farm. Her game face will be back on now foaling has started. |

Stunning weather. Sunny and warm. Brain is mush after seeing approx 35 stallions. All started looking the same.
But the food was wonderful and bumped into so many people I havnt seen for years.

They all look amazing. 2 special mentions. Testa Rossa at 29, in his own headstall, unrugged, in the prominent box in the stable block. Bright eyes and looking for a finger to nibble on. Amazing looking and all credit to his handlers. And the import at Arrowfield. Vandeek. OMG drop dead stunning and if they cant run the hackey ladies will be climbing over each other to get them. Silver grey with a blonde tail and silver streaks in his mane. Conformation ???? Ummmm,,,too busy trying to stop drooling to say if he will make it but knowing Arrowfield track record ? Probably. First season and needs to let down some as looked like a whippet but talk about eye candy. |

Good ol’ Testa Rossa - great to hear he’s still doing well at 29! (Though every time I hear his name that damn song gets stuck in my head
)Vandeek sounds like a stunner! I’ll be keeping my beady eyes on him!

Some good greys racing will be great. Although he'd be hard pressed to rival celestial legend. Hus dark dapple will change but is so good looking at the moment. Go the greys

Vandeek is just a bit " different ". Have seen a lot of greys, but in the sunlight ( which we had in full force ,,,wooohooo ) he was almost sheer silver . Cant explain it but you could hear all the ladies gasp when he walked out. Will try and put a photo up later, if I got any decent ones. Have to say Dundeel looked wonderful, for the syndicate members interest.

Testa Rossa. The wall was high,, and he kept moving around, and the light coming in that window spoiled things for pic, but you can see he is OK.

Angle of the shot makes Dundeel look somewhat taller than he is.
Though he's certainly much heavier than he was a few years let alone some years ago. AA if you look at our 3yo Dunna Runna's videos you'd perhaps be surprised to see he's nearly a carbon copy of Dundeel when he first stood and before he really let down.

Yes SC. I didnt try real hard for good seating, just sit where I could find something, so the shots are very far from perfect. Let me see another for Dundeel.

Fabulous pics, aa - thanks for sharing.
The grey colour is gorgeous but I think Dundeel will always be my fave. (They should get a shorter handler to make him look taller - an old showring trick - I’m available
) |
