We can always relocate & name her once the time comes but the time's come for her own thread.

Stewart: I'll go to $9m for Winx filly

American thoroughbred tycoon John Stewart has laid down the gauntlet to rival bidders on his commitment to buy Winx’s first foal, saying he is willing to pay over $9 million when it goes through the ring at Inglis Easter on Monday.

Stewart has been vocal about his determination to secure the prized Pierro filly in recent weeks and, in a message posted to Twitter/X on Friday, he said he cannot see his company Resolute Thoroughbreds being outbid for the yearling, even with the international attention on her.

“Will the Winx filly be the first horse that @rresoluteracing is out bid on? I don’t think so,” he said.

“Given the pedigree page and inspecting the filly in person twice, I can say without a doubt that at the end of the day it will take some deep pockets to keep this filly from joining our band.

“I am committed to do whatever it takes to buy this filly unless I get the impression I am being bid up, and in that case, someone could get stuck with paying a big number.

“People are calling her a collectors' item and I am a collector, so it is a natural fit … this filly represents everything that Resolute Racing stands for.”

Will the Winx filly be the first horse that @rresoluteracing is out bid on?….

I don’t think so.

— Jstewartrr (@jstewartrr) April 5, 2024

In a reply to a comment under the tweet, Stewart confirmed he would likely keep Winx’s progeny to race in Australia but didn’t rule out any globetrotting further down the line should the yearling live up to the immense hype surrounding her.

“I think this filly is very special to the Australian people and I understand that, and when I buy her, I plan on keeping her in Australia to race,” he said.

“It would be great to have her in America, and that may happen depending on what happens and how well it is received.”

He is willing to break the company’s purchase record in his pursuit of the filly, currently set at the AUD $9.1 million he paid for Breeders Cup winner Goodnight Olive.

“Regardless of what happens, it is going to be something people will be happy they were following,” he said.

Stewart is a part owner of Coolmore’s high-profile colt Storm Boy, and has been in Australia in recent weeks to watch his Golden Slipper (third) and Sires’ (fourth) runs.

That’s crazy, what are the odds she’ll be a group winning racehorse? Can anyone think of champion mares that threw champion foals?

Well Wakeful had two G1 winners including a Melbourne Cup winner.  It took Denises Joy till her last foal to get that G1 winner but her line still goes strong.  Urban Sea was outstanding on the turf and at stud.  It does happen.

Hope some one runs him up and up,,,hate to see her lost to the US tho.  If she never wins a race her bloodlines are still very valuable.  Often see these things skip a generation.

Serious Question (not wanting to be a wet blanket)
Other than a massive publicity stunt, what did this achieve?

Im scratching my head on what it it was all about other than publicity for Inglis?

Am I missing something obvious?

oldflight, l think it effectively it turned out to be an auction to dissolve a partnership in the horse.

Well done to DK. I hope she turns out to be great filly.

Totally overlooked the possible Kepitis interest in the filly.  If Debbie doesn't put her hand up it sells for half that price.

I could not understand why they would sell what was so hard to obtain - a healthy, well structured foal, and a filly to carry on Winx's name ... surely the owners had sentiment.
Turns out they did Smile

Twitter statement from John Stewart

Mission accomplished.  I said before that my goal was for the filly to stay in Australia. Congratulations to @DKepitis and everyone in Australia!

The winx filly is right where she belongs. ❤️❤️

I hope I played a small part in discouraging some of the international players out of the auction.

And I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. I am already looking to my next pick….

From Andrew Hawkins

So there were three equal partners in the ownership I believe - Debbie Kepitis, Peter Tighe, Richard Treweeke. Richard died in 2021 so it's his estate now. So it was to settle that partnership.

Says in the paper that previous world record for a yearling filly was $8.9 million set in 2013. Who was that?

It also eclipses the world record for a yearling filly of 5 million guineas, or $8.9m using the exchange rate of the day, paid at a sale in the UK in 2013 for a filly later named Al Naamah.58 mins ago
