I understand the blinkers are special to purpose ones designed to protect the horses' eyes if they throw their heads around in the claustrophobic travel containers.

Carioca can say with absolute confidence that "I dunno".

I do remember the late Trust in a Gust doing himself damage in an aircraft crate/container and there was some suggestion he had too much room to move about or get cast.  But don't know how large they are these days.

I've travelled a few times in the air SC , they are in boxed crates with a strapper at their head at all times , there is a heavy leather strap that goes down under their belly to stop them getting down , both sides of the box can be dropped down , But not in flight , much more I can tell you but I'm going back 52 years Ouch , that horse is in his box " sooking " , some resent the vet , it's the white coat 😂 pity he's not on straw , he would be if I had him . Wink

Can't anyone see him first getting off a float and then entering a crate which would subsequently be loaded, directly or indirectly, into an aircraft?

Why would he ever be unloaded from one float and loaded into another?  Wacko

Aha!!  Possibly double click on the image you're watching or rather better open up Racing.com "Artorius heads off to the UK" 1.08 minute video and you'll see the moving image.  Smile

Shyte the image doesn't move.  Go to racing.com and you can see the horse exit a float, undergo a brands check, the handler don appropriate headgear, and then lead Artorius into a crate.

There is a possibility that a certain percentage of horses travelling in any way may need a small percentage of sedation to deal with anxiety ,depending on temperament , especially stallions or moody mares ,  maybe the the goggles are also for similar , to curb sensory overload .

Almost certainly a degree of sedation goldey.  The horse did appear very calm under the circumstances.

I thought he seemed calm to SC but then he's done it all before.  Maybe he has a good temperament.

Those horses who travel in those crates must not suffer from claustrophobia !!  Holy dooly do you see how small the crates are , and so shut in.  They would have to knock me out, never mind sedate me , to stop me freaking, in one of those things.
Joe told me once that he paid for the 2 spaces in the crate, and had the divider removed, so Target could lay down.

I have no reason to doubt you AA , but find that highly unlikely , do you realise what that horse would do lying down if they came across turbulence and air pockets Ouch I can tell you for a fact it's quite scary , there is no way the transport company would allow that imo , as far as the mild tranquilliser is concerned , the vet would advise once there in the air I would suspect , they have air travel down pat now and the box they travel in is about wither high or a tad higher , but I'm sure they can see all , have a drink and eat , it's a bit diferrent to the old DC we travelled in , straight into the nose of the plane , 15 to 20 feet in the air by forklift Ouch I nearly gelati myself , but my horse never turned a hair , it had previously had a load of cattle to take to Indonesia , there were pock marks in the roof above us and blood smeared there too ( horns ) , there diferrent today , unless turbulence . LOLLOLOuchOuch

No.  And he was in the vets in Newmarket ( UK ) for quite a few months getting patched up.   Joe said one time, before the injury, he fell forward quite badly on the way home, when landing somewhere, and he was worried it would happen again.  So he took the whole crate so he could lay down.
Just what he said , from memory.
