Some interesting new signings in the works for Manchester United.
Bryan Mbeumo & Mathias Cunha apparently the deal is done with Cunha and Mbeumo talks are still on going. Carl.

Just shows what a crazy sport soccer is.
A team can win one of the games biggest tournaments & go like busteds in the normal comp. Wouldn't happen in most sports methinks Need to make the goals bigger in soccer.....encourage more shots on goal = more goals.....& more chance of winning.....resulting in more consistent outcomes based on ability.

As attention spans get smaller and smaller the low scoring of soccer becomes a bigger and bigger turnoff. However, to its advantage is the lower chances of concussion so more parents letting them play compared to League and Rules. Could soccer in 30 years be golf of today. Fun to play, boring to watch.

People who find soccer boring in general should find a new sport to follow. Like anything it can't be super exciting all the time otherwise how would you ever know if it was exciting ? Much like Test match cricket football is a patience game with tactics and skills, some of the ultimate best games I've seen, have been nil all draws or games that ended in a score draw.

Say that to enough young people and soccer won't be the force it currently is across the globe in 30-40yrs time. I already see there is a reported trend away from EPL in 18-25yos. Interesting you choose cricket to compare it to. The game where Tests are diminishing and T20 is growing exponentially. What T20 equivalent does soccer have up its sleeve? Personally I watch as much Test cricket as I can. I watch the odd T20 game but not many. But for the good of the sport with the future generations cricket has flourished from embracing T20 rather than sticking with Tests and telling youngsters to find a new sport to follow. |

The best games always stand the test of time, test cricket will survive there are way too many traditionalists like myself who want the game to keep doing what it's doing. Stadiums are full everywhere every week in the UK for PL and EPL games, football or 'soccer' as its known here is also very popular among people, it just doesn't get a chance under the spotlights due to 2 other codes that hog up the winter time sports channels.
There are a lot of football supporters in Australia, I'd say the numbers would be in the low millions who love and support a football team somewhere. Often they love the European and English games, some also go to A League games when they can and want their kids to play soccer as opposed to NRL & AFL as its not so dangerous and gives kids great fitness.

Nine will consider a bid for the A-League broadcast rights as it inches
closer to a deal to acquire all English Premier League matches for the
next three years, alongside a suite of other assets from Optus Sport. If successful in acquiring the rights, it is understood Nine would
broadcast EPL games on its Stan Sport subscription service. It would be
unlikely Nine would show any EPL games on free-to-air television. |

Feel like they may be missing a trick there, the midday GMT kick off in England is a 10pm kick off in Australia, it could be a good timeslot if they made it the one FTA game per week.

That would suck big time.. currently it's 15$ extra on top of a normal subscription of Stan just to get to the sport, whereas now I have the ability to watch PL matches for $7 on top of my Optus internet connection. So sick of these greedy moguls placing popular sport in hard to reach expensive areas of TV media. Carl

Quite possibly the worst news I've seen for ages, PL goes to Stan, so now my $7 a month I pay extra for my Optus sport will turn into something like $40+ and the worst part, you can't just subscribe to their sport, you have to subscribe to Stan itself and buy a sports package on top of that..
FKN GREED ALWAYS SCREWING THE COMMON MAN - it's the same old same old rich at the top finding what people like and taking it away to high paid subscription models. What a disgrace again.

Liverpools Diogo Jota (28) has been killed in a car accident along with his younger brother Andre (25, who was also a professional footballer) in a car accident in Spain, two weeks after Diogo married his long time partner. Absolutely tragic. |

Manchester United’s transfer business has drawn much attention recently, not least because, at last check at the end of March, they owed more than £300million in net fees to other clubs. That’s generally been viewed as a by-product of largesse, and United have spent over £200m on new players in each of the past three seasons. But it’s also, as the Elanga deal reflects, indicative of their inability to sell well. In the 10 seasons to the end of 2023-24, the most recent for which we have reliable data, United’s profit on player sales totalled £174.2million. That was good enough only to be the 18th highest mark in England; they lag behind all of their domestic rivals when it comes to player sales, and aren’t even in the same ballpark as Chelsea (£842.8m) and Manchester City (£583.7m) over the same period. |

Nice little win for United in the summer series in the US, also incoming striker could be this bloke..
United have made 3 nice purchases over the summer, this will be the final one and the one we need badly - a striker. Carl.

How so? Club A wants player from Club B, a fee is agreed and player moves. While I think football has other issues mainly around PSR and how it is essentially just a vehicle to stop the "big clubs" from forming a Super League by stopping clubs from further down the league being able to spend money to improve, as evidenced by Newcastle and Aston Villas transfer windows thus far, I wouldn't say the transfer of players is a problem.
In football clubs are even actually punished for doing what Canterbury did with Lachlan Galvin, they call it tapping up.

It's murky compared to the US system. All kinds of dodgy deals going on with agents, who aren't even paid by the players but by the clubs, often twice for the same transfer.
