I have zero interest in this event and from the lack of posts there is not much interest on TBV. However  a massive event with worldwide interest so its own thread may be justified.
Not quite zero interest as I live in close proximity and the event disrupts life for four days. Confused

In the 2024 Formula 1 season, Oscar Piastri earned an estimated $34.5 million AUD, comprising a base salary of $7.8 million and $26.7 million in bonuses, putting him amongst the top 7 highest-paid drivers.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of Oscar Piastri's earnings in the 2024 Formula 1 season:
  • Base Salary: $7.8 million AUD
  • Bonuses: $26.7 million AUD
  • Total earnings: $34.5 million AUD

I am intrigued by how warm a favourite Lando Norris is compared to the 4 times in a row champion. $2.50/$6.00 when I checked yesterday afternoon.

Must be a huge number of people of are F1 fanatics for it to be able to generate these sorts of salaries. Think it’s one of those sports you either obsess about or can’t stand. You couldn’t get me watching more than 5 minutes of it but a guy I work with follows it religiously and knows the most minute details of it, right down to the changing car regulations etc. Each to their own.

Probably the most boring “sport” in the world.

It’s like Moonee Valley. Get to the front and unless your car breaks down…you win.

Give me Moto GP anyway.

Best of luck getting an Australian GP in country Victoria.  Wink

However the predominantly Middle Eastern doctors in Bendigo are absolutely excellent.

I may have the least interest in the GP of anyone in Australia. Today I discovered that LOewis Hamilton is black/coloured when I saw a picture of him in the paper. Had no idea or interest previously.

The GP is really a sh t show today.  The Red Flag should have come out with all the rain but no, they let it continue and any number of cars are spinning or actually crashing out.  Dead

Flicked on and heard 20 seconds of the 3rd place-getter's interview - "I was hoping the two in front of me might make a mistake and I could slip through, but unfortunately that didn't happen today."

Sounds like the crashes were the highlights.

Melbourne at it's finest, the only thing missing was DANDREWS presenting the winners trophy.

That is quite a prodigious feat of ignorance considering he's been famous as the only black F1 driver since 2007.

Tlaz? If you don’t care a fig, you don’t care a fig?

Nothing to do with ignorance…or maybe it is lol.

It’s stretching credibility to even call F1 a “sport”.

Prodigious, well thank you. More of a case of completely switching off when anything concerning the GP appears on TV and bypassing any articles in the sporting section of newspapers.

There is a multitude of sports I am equally as ignorant about, GP is simply the most prominent. Heck I can name maybe only 2 players in the AFL side I loosely support.

I am ignorant about many thing, politics, current affairs, science etc, being ignorant of sport is the least of my concerns.

But certain things and people are in the air even if you have no interest in them. I was aware of Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump without ever being interested in their product.

Oscar came 2nd in the China sprint (where Lewis Hamilton had a shock win) and now looks to have snared poll.

He's now firm favourite for tomorrow's race.
