Once again the Melbourne Herald Sun takes the cake for its eight page lift out for today's gallops, dog and trot meetings. The Victorian races at Pakenham and Wangaratta are given sufficient coverage but there is none for Tamworth or Rockhampton and only the fields  with pre-post odds for the $10 million prize money for the Gold Coast Magic Million meeting at bottom of last page are published.

What is more puzzling is the extended coverage of for dog and trot meetings, even an obscure trot meeting at Penrith trots tonight , with total prize money for the meeting of $78,336 ,has half the space as the Gold Coast races.

Obviously the trot and dog meetings are paying up front to get their fields published.

Not sure why you bother to complain about it when you obviously have access to the internet and the greatest form guides ever. Who buys newspapers anymore ?

I used to browse them over coffee a few years ago but the coffee shop stopped buying them because nobody(except me) ever read them.

I have a paper home delivered each morning and of course have access to the digital on line version, however the on line version is an exact replica and has the same woeful form guide.BTW if the internet has the “ greatest form guides ever” I presume you are making a great success in your punting.Pray tell which form guides are the greatest ?

Surely, Bob, if you truly follow horse-racing, all you need are the fields.

I've never needed anyone else's opinion who to back.

I thought you didn't use form for your betting ?

and form guides are dependant, if you are betting on hong kong then go to the HKJC and use theirs, its got everything you need, replays etc, or racing and sports for most everything else. I thought you were a pro ?

Exactly, I am a tote punter and I am actually betting against other punters. To make a success of that I need to know what other tote punters are thinking to avoid their bets, They follow tipsters on the tv, the radio and in the press , it is not difficult to avoid those tips if you have access to them, that is why a need those newspaper form guides. It is called a "contrarian " approach , if I did the same as all those other tote punters I would probably lose 15>20 % on my turnover, like most punters.

Putting that another way, I play horses that are under tipped compared to their price. Obviously I cannot avoid backing horses that have been tipped but concentrate on the under tipped horses, essentially in multiple betting.

I think you should share your bets for one day right here so we can see what you do, examples of, and before the race meeting not after. I doubt anyone is going to ruin your market or prices, but you should show up, put up what you do and how much $ instead of all this cloak and dagger I'm a pro stuff.

So often I find that people who brag about their betting prowess are usually losers who don't spend more than $5 on a bet. I was a losing punter for years, only very rarely winning big, over time would be way way way behind, its an affliction covered in lies and fantasy for a lot of people.

A BIG NO. Bob can do as he pleases. Post after if he wishes. No-one is forced to believe him.

For years people had a go at me for posting after. Why should anyone be forced to prove their prowess and have it possibly eroded?

I still have recorded evidence of all my betting transactions. I once went 141 days straight without losing. I do not have to prove it...but I can.

Sorry for all the moochers out there...

All forms of gambling are littered with liars. You can tell them simply by looking in their eyes.

I was never afraid to admit if I had a losing day. But it didn't happen very often...Tuesday's Joy comes readily to mind.  lol.

As my father...a bookie...once said to me:  "You are the tinniest punter I've ever encountered..."

That was the day I backed a 120-1 shot in Adelaide...

LOL I also backed a 120/1 shot in Adelaide would have been around 2004 or 2005 maybe, was a small mare/filly in stakes race against boys, well weighted, had great second up form,  forget the name maybe Pinot or something like that, had $50 ew and she came second at $20 the place on the tote, I was proud of that one as I had found it by really studying the form. Another around that time I found by studying hard was a horse called Emission, he won the BTC sprint at 55/1 Rhys McLeod rode him, had $50 ew and it won. But again those wins are rare as hell. There are hundreds of losers along the way.

My long shot was called Toy something...I think. Would have to get the books out of mothballs to find it.

 I backed a lot of good-priced winners.

My reasoning was to target races with a false favourite...then look for the swooper... usually at odds. Worked pretty well.

I should have backed Riva San, not Tuesday's Joy...Cry

It just aint the same having a beer and a bet at the local anymore. I miss the days where form guides were all over the tables, tips were scribbled all over the form, losing tickets scattered everywhere, arguments because you picked up someone else's guide, beers flowing, soaked coasters, missing getting a winning bet on because the guy in front filled his ticket out wrong and they jumped, and so it goes on.

These days, six obesse bastards sitting around a table, phone in hand, nose in phone, little banter until your horse is beaten a pimple and the ride was a shocker. You with me?

Absolutely. Or even as a kid going to the local TAB and getting a giggle out of all the wogs (sorry, but they were) loudly talking on their phones about the tips from their "connections", and watching the poor old live-at-the-TAB types rush to put bets on their "quietly" shared tips after eavesdropping.
