I'd like to get comment on the real value of Bonus Bets ? How beneficial do you think they really are to your betting "experience" ?

Worthless to me but I do like the matched deposit cash, I can do far more with it

I find them to be more of a distraction than anything.
What I mean by that is I find that if I am having a good day, I will search for runners who have some hope at good odds and use them, so they are diverting me from my strategy for the day. I usually just let them run out so as far as my record for using them successfully, it would be about 30 to 40 % success rate but that is from a small example.

Well I'm sort of with Gay & Voyager
I find the Deposit matches handy - as they allow me to bet on something I was probably going to bet on anyway. I do get get annoyed at not being able to go e/w on say golfing / cycling which is how I normally bet on those sports. Has actually cost me money a few times when I have used them & my selection fills a hole. When I occasionally punt on the nags race to race for a bit of entertainment they also work well - although I generally stay away from low value multiple exotics as you can lose your return altogether if a few fav's come in & the stake deduction takes it all. So Deposit matches is a tick - even if in fact they still induce you to punt when you where not intending too (which is their main aim of course) The money back stuff leaves me cold though. Deadest con. For my style of crazed punting it just annoys me - esp. when i realise I'm getting stitched up on unders. I'd love to see some statistical info on Fixed Price Offer (which you need to take to get it on SB) vs Best Tote or even middle Tote a few minutes before jump across the field. The fav's in particular are gross unders. At 5% to 10% less on average i reckon - so in order to get effectively half your stake back (Bonus bet) you are giving up money when you back a winner with the Fixed offer. And its even worse - when you do the quick calculation & go the Fixed offer path - half the time the bet gets intercepted & reduced further just to make sure you have no edge So like you you Voyager I pay absolutely no attention to Bet Refund Bonus Bet OffersJust changing tack. I have 4 Active Accounts - SB, Betfair, Bet365 & Unibet. Over xmas had a few days punting race to race on SB - which i have deliberately stayed away from for a while. Standard punting style is win bet plus that selection stood out in a multi quinella. So often I'm scrambling getting the bets on. SB was always the best getting on after race jump - could literally get the quinella on quarter way through the race. For me - it was the BIGGEST reason I did my race betting with them. All the others cut off exactly or even before jump. Now they are the same as the others. Obviously the regulators finally cottoned on & gave them a serve. I tried Bet365 the other day & found their overall offer actually better.

SB are the masters of gimmicky promotion. Been extremely successful for them - should tell us something. Bet365 are actually the opposite - not so much in your face. When you do you may be surprised. Best exotic Div (incl Quaddies) across 3 totes on ALL majors every Sat - plus at least one most other days. For those who bet exotics the differences across the 3 states can be massive.

Funny when I told you a few weeks back that was my whole betting strategy, betting on bet return races and 3 leg multis, you said it was rubbish.

The matched deposit thing is good. Lots of young casual punters these days have every betting app possible on their phones and just wait for offers to come round when they've not used an acct for a while.
I never spend bonus bets on win bets because there's no point. I'll use them for quaddies and multis, sometimes a same-race multi or a tri if I'm confident of a winner and like a couple of roughies. So basically if I get a bonus bet back on a losing bet I see it as a bonus throw at the stumps on a multi that will pay at least as well as the original bet. Btw no better feeling than using a deposit match, turning it into 10X as much, then withdrawing/ closing the acct.

Matched deposits are of no benefit other than the thrill of losing it if your betting strategy is bad.

Love a bonus bet. Extremely beneficial. Though if I just backed horses to run second, I would be a multi.

What I may have said is that any strategy that wins money based around only taking advantage of promotional offers will end up short-term.

Depends which book as to how long they will tolerate it but yes, unless you are putting other action through you won’t be allowed to do this long term.

They seem to let the young $20 budget punters on forever, with regular offers etc. Can't imagine why.

Well duh but it's still free money - if you were planning to spend X amount, why not get the same again if offered? Of course you have to roll it around etc, but if you can't do that with a few bets you shouldn't be punting. (Which is the case for all the young punters sucked in etc) |

Odd comment Rusty.
With a Deposit match you know you are going to get it once the deposit is made With a Bonus Bet you can have a bet & not be guaranteed anything. So it is bet success dependent.

With most, to access your matched deposit you have to turn it over 2 or 3 times.

Huh? For one thing, you don't get your stake back for a bonus bet, which makes it pretty much useless as a win bet on a fave. |

Huh? IF you get a bb, it’s a free bet, same as a deposit match. Anyone who alters their betting to “win” a bb, is an idiot. Surely no one does that?

That's true - though I think it may be once (not 100% sure - never an issue for most I would suggest
)However at least you know you have it And like Voyager said - it can actually change the way you think. You can start thinking to bet to have more chance of getting a bonus return - which is madness i know. I mean are we really betting to get half of your stake back - or are you betting to actually try to win money. ? do you bet fixed odds at say $50 in order to have a bet return security of or take $60 top tote with no half stake security ? It does my head in sometimes - so usually get ride of any deposit money bonuses quick smart & go top tote from then on

Are you suggesting if you have a deposit match of $100, and put the $200 on an evens pop, they’ll pay you $400?

Rusty "If" is the difference. Can you not see that. One is guaranteed - one is not And you may say that - however I think there would be plenty who change both their selection & the type of market they bet into because of the bet return offer.

I mean if you don't think punters are influenced by this stuff why would the likes of SB be doing it ?
Deposit matches get customers active when some had no intention of doing same. Once the money goes in - & the match made - the Corporates finish in front - as the vast majority punt until its ALL gone Bet returns have the same effect - however the Corporates sneakily claw it back via reduced Fixed Odds offer

Have we all not noticed in those 5 horse fields - when they give down to 4th a bet return - that the Fixed Offer to get it are massive unders.
You are almost buying your own money back

A few years ago, 365 actually gave you a full refund, which was massive.
So taking $5 when $6 was available elsewhere was still an attractive option.

The art of bookmaking has changed - many years ago now. SB where the first to cotton onto it - very clever. They realised it was all about getting the customer - the deposit - the rest would look after itself. If they had to give a bit back at times in bonus bets it just meant they had to wait a bit longer to get it all back. They have proven the strategy resulted in a massive clean up for them
Dopes like the TAB sat back & watched half their market get taken before waking up.
