Blue Diamond Stakes winner Artorius is back in work and is getting close to heading towards a barrier trial before beginning his spring campaign.

The colt by Flying Artie hasn't raced since the Golden Slipper in March.

"He's probably going to be ready to trial in about two weeks," said Sam Freedman, who trains in partnership with his father Anthony.

"We'll work out where we resume with him, there's the option to go to the McNeil (Stakes) but he might be ready for a McKenzie (Stakes) as well before that, so we'll just take a traditional path, probably the same path that we took with Super Seth, and then use the Danehill (Stakes) potentially as a direction to whether we go towards the Caulfield Guineas or whether we head towards the Coolmore (Stud Stakes)."

Should connections opt to head towards the Guineas, Freedman believes that Artorius will be able to handle the step up to 1600m.

"He has a lovely, relaxed nature about him, he conserves a lot of energy, and we're mindful that sometimes these sort of sprinters can make you think they're going to get further than they do, but I think he's got the scope to get that sort of trip, and he's come back a lot stronger, he's grown a lot, so I think he's made the development needed to really train on at three as well," he said.

I would love to see him do what Glenfiddich did last spring and go first up into the Memsie.

1400m, WFA, Fresh and down in weight.

Up against a field of horses looking to move towards the Cups and Cox Plate, if he was set for it he would go close.

It sounds like the stable are thinking the Guineas/Coolmore double and I would say the Doncaster in the autumn.

Very excited to see him back in action Thumbs Up

Anyone know where he'll next run?

I see he's $15 for the $1m Bondi Stakes over 1600m next Saturday and that just appears ridiculous.

No final decision at this stage according to Henry Field whether Artorius heads to the group one Coolmore Henry did confirm though that Wild Ruler is off to the paddock. Just didn’t get the firm track yesterday for Everest.

Thanks Shawy.  Interesting that Field rather than Freedman is calling the shots.

Might just waste a lazy $20 on the colt in the Bondi anyway.

I know Knigs Legacy did not good last year, but I would love to see him run in the Cantala on derby day.

A full field with a strong pace where he can settle and then rattle of that huge last sectional at Flemington to me seems ideal.

It seems though that he will be dropped to the 1200m Coolmore, if he runs at all.

If he is not injured he should be having another run at the mile.

Anthony and Sam Freedman have confirmed star jockey Jamie Spencer will ride Artorius at Royal Ascot.

Confirmation came on Thursday morning, with the stable firming plans ahead of the trip in June.

The three-year-old Flying Artie entire is being aimed at the £350,000 (A$600,000) G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes (1207m) at Royal Ascot on June 18, followed by the £500,000 (A$900,000) G1 Darley July Cup (1207m) at Newmarket's July Course on July 9.

"Jamie has a terrific record at Ascot so we look forward to having him ride our Gr.1 winning colt. Artorius will have two jump outs in May before he departs on June 1," Team Freedman said in a tweet.

Artorius will be one of up to three Australian sprinters heading to this year's carnival with champion Nature Strip and Group 1-winner Home Affairs also likely to make the trip.

What's the Ascot team look like at the moment? Artorius, Home Affairs and Nature Strip. Any others? Zaaki still undecided?

Should probably have won the Newmarket.  Provided he travels well he's a huge chance in those UK races imo.

Well their 1200m is more like 1300m here so that should suit.  He is one of the boys I wanted to see go out over a distance!

Artorius is from the La Trioenne family.  Speedy and middle distance stamina mixed.  Then the sire is from the Better Loosen Up family.  And he was a miler/2000m horse.  Add in Rubiton, Redoute's (can get plenty to go a distance).  THis boy has speed.  He needs speed on to come home fast - similar to his sires runs.  He could be Anamoe's rival but they kept him to 1200m or less.

This is what I'm trying to say.  We are holding back our own horses from their full potiential.

Have to disagree Tlaz. The straight track racing suits him and as SC said, had Froggy Newitt stuck to the inside from barrier 2 in the Newmarket instead of angling out to the outside fence, it more than likely wins.

Probably more like 1400m. That Royal Ascot hill is tough
Australian racing is only good up to 1400m in terms of world standards when it comes to depth/quality in numbers

A horse travelling to England for Royal Ascot - What is the latest they must leave Australia ?

How long do they quarantine in Australia before departing and how long do they quarantine on arrival in England ?

Awesome looking track. I miss punting on the English racing, I lived in London for two years between 2006-2008 and ran a William Hill outlet on High St in Kensington. Good memories. Beer

I think you're correct TJ, due to our presently 'clean' country. Not sure of the status quo tho' given the Japanese virus that horses also suffer from.
Pretty sure Messara & Moody's horses went straight to Newmarket.

Not sure what they are watching ?

They should go for the Sussex after the July Cup.

He will be run of his feet in the July Cup.

Get him out to the mile.

Maybe if he had stayed in the outside section and come off the winners back he wins , all the hoo haa ,was ,that he inside to centre was superior , maybe cost him the race .

He was really starting to motor when he was checked badly , surely he wins if that momentum could have been kept up to the winning post .

Hardly the horses fault connections keep running in the wrong races.

One of his best runs was in the Caulfield GNS. when a closing 3rd beaten just over a length by Anamoe , I think they're a very good training partnership , so maybe they will look at that mile race , his run last night was excellent imo.
