Twice in the last three weeks I have received two attempted email scams. Optus is my provider for my phones and internet, yet someone is wanting me to update my financial details as they say," my last payment didn't go through ". I quickly realised this was a scam because..
A. My last payment went through
B. I was addressed in the email as "hi there"..hardly a business way to address a customer
C. Their email address did not have "au" on the end, which of course ends the Optus email address.
D. They quoted my account number as ****7**35***, which whilst not my account number, is the manner in which, for security purposes, account numbers are usually quoted by businesses in correspondence.

All take care, so that these scammers do not suck you in. They must think an old bloke ,like myself, came down in the last sunshower.Big smile

That is your porn site registrations being on-sold Bob.Embarrassed

Just remember no genuine business asks you for details in an email and none give you a link to your account. Just hit ''report phishing''

I'm sick to death of the recorde phone calls: "Hi this is Nicole from the National Broadband Network............." Angry The solar panel ones are bad enough but at least they're genuine!

I'd say 95% of the population know about "Nicole", but they must be still finding victims, or would have stopped. Never heard a politician explain why they can't stop people rorting under false pretences of being NBN, AFP, ATO etc

Amusing in a strange way --- Government can give $1150 a fortnight to Dole recipients , but can't stop scammers ripping the unwary off for tens of millions.
Not to mention, their failure to embrace the drug scene.

Honestly, there is so much information online & in the media including TV news & stories, I don't feel sorry for those scammed. I'm 68 & remember being told as a child "If it sounds too good to be true......" so there's no excuse for the oldies either.

Nothing "too good to be true" with what "nicole" is peddling, she is pretending there is a problem, so you fork out to fix it. But most people ought to know by now that the NBN does not bill end users for anything, the service provider does.

I was talking to someone the other day, who, although knowing that "Nicole" is a scam call, decided out of curiosity, to go through whatever procedure is advised, press 1 or whatever, etc, but not getting to the actual point of giving card details. That proved a major error, as they must have been able to detect that behaviour, and thereafter deluged her with calls.

I used to answer their calls with "Jawohl? Sprechen sie Deutsch?", then if they continued on with their spiel, I'd launch into "Denke sie sich muss der kopfdokter sehen?"  (loosely..."don't you think you should see a shrink?") by then, they'd have hung up.

My family all knew it was me, if it happened to be them on the line... and would answer "Ja"...Confused

it might possibly bore them to death...

would you like a copy, Max? The first one is called 'Out of Control', the second is 'Intimate Conversations' and the most recent, which I just received the first copy of, is 'Anniversary Waltzing'...but it has nothing to do with dancing...

they're pretty spicy. I'm so tempted to send Macca one just to give him palpitations...Big smile

I saw a video about the Normandie Squadron, a group of French fighter pilots who volunteered to fly with the Soviet Air Force, in WWII, their deeds became legend, as did their dalliances with the Russian women, many of whom were pilots themselves. One Frenchman had his lines down pat, saying that if he could gather all the flowers in the world, to throw at the feet of these women, it would still not be enough to do justice to them. Romance writers, eat your heart out !

Nothing more inspiring than the beauty of those real ladies , who preserve their femininity, Play the irresistable music with their high heals , and the blinding colors of their flowing dress.
They make it so hard for the audience .

Remember what that was called? Sounds good on a rainy day in self isolation. F*ck I'm getting bored now. I've even started reading my childhood favourite books, The Three Investigators, again. Still good!

There's also a very good UK movie on the Polish pilots who were scorned on their arrival but finished up with the best kill rates of all he squadrons. Sadly the Brits refused to help repatriate them & I'm not sure what resulted. Super movie tho'..............not that it had anything to do with scams LOL

Almost suicide, to keep being a fighter pilot over the length of WW2. Some German pilots flew missions virtually every day of the war, and survived, but they were a tiny minority. Quite a few survived into 1945, when they were overwhelmed by superior forces, I think I saw where of 22,000 fighter pilots fielded by Germany, less than 1000 survived the war. Soviet losses would also have been drastic. The Americans kept their pilots to a restricted number of missions. The losses of RAF Bomber Command, equated to air crew having only 50% chance of surviving the 30 missions they were limited to. The Normandie Squadron suffered high attrition, only 3 of the original 20 survived. When asked how he managed to last the war through to the end, on of those pilots said there was only one reason, the design staff at Yakovlev, the source of their redoubtable Yak-3 fighter planes.

Just reading this brought back a lot of memories.  I worked at Pathfinder House for awhile, well after the war, of course, but many memories there .  And seeing the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight go over always made me think what those pilots, of all nationalities, went thru.

Watching this now. Really well done and what a story.

Reminds me of a little known Roald Dahl book, Over to You - great short stories about his time as a RAF pilot.

Incredible bravery, I don't know whether a lot of people would front up for a job today, where death is a strong likelihood, doesn't fit with today's occupational H & S guidelines. I wonder what it says about the Australia of WW2, that the most famous Australian flyer, Clive Caldwell, acquired the nickname "Killer". I just doubt that could have happened in an another jurisdiction, it is a too honest admission that killing was the name of the game. Caldwell got that name, because on at least one occasion, after shooting down an enemy aircraft, and seeing the pilot bail out, he would circle round to machine gun them as they hung from the chute.

Every bit as good is:

Hurricane (original title) or Mission of Honor is the story of a group of brave Polish pilots known as Squadron 303 who fought in the skies over England in WW2, not just to keep Great Britain free from the Nazis, but also to keep alive the very idea of their own country, which had existed in its modern form for barely twenty years before it was crushed between the opposing jaws of Germany and Russia. Equipped with the almost-obsolete Hurricane airplane and RAF blue uniforms, they fought and Poland lived.
