Cox Plate winner Adelaide headlines new additions to Coolmore roster

Coolmore Stud has included some of its supreme world-wide stallions for the southern hemisphere season, spearheaded by last year's magnificent Cox Plate winner Adelaide.

Joining Adelaide in the Hunter Valley will be the brilliant US-bred colt Verrazano, a son of the tried and tested Vinery shuttler More Than Ready. Verrazano won six starts as a three-year-old – including two group 1s – by a total of more than 46 lengths.

Wedged in between the two newcomers is the tried and tested son of Danehill, Holy Roman Emperor, which came to Coolmore's Australian farm in 2007 and is returning after several recent triumphs.

Adelaide, however, is the star addition to the roster which has Fastnet Rock, Pierro and So You Think heading the list of super stallions.

He becomes the second Cox Plate winner standing at Coolmore, joining So You Think.

"Adelaide's win in the Cox Plate was spectacular," Coolmore's Michael Kirwan said. "He beat 10 individual group 1 winners, including Criterion, Wandjina and Sacred Falls. It was the best field of horses that had been assembled all season.

"To think he did it on his first Australian start, having been drawn in the car park and forced to endure the run he did. It marked him down as a special horse. He's from a sireline that consistently produces group 1 stallions."

Holy Roman Emperor's bloodlines are impeccable and his son Mongolian Khan is the top three-year-old performer of the Australasian season after taking out both the New Zealand Derby and Australian Derby for the Murray Baker stable.

Kirwan has also enjoyed tremendous success in Hong Kong with John Moore's stayer Designs On Rome, the winner of three major staying events there during the past 15 months.

"Designs On Rome will appeal to breeders looking to use a sire with a proven track record of producing high-class racehorses," Kirwan said.

He believes Verrazano will appeal to Australian breeders after More Than Ready paved the way for him earlier by siring so many group 1 winners, including Golden Slipper winner Sebring.

"I went to Kentucky last November to inspect Verrazano with James Bester and we were blown away by his physique," Kirwan said. "He's a big, powerful horse with very good limbs and we thought he was the sort of horse that Australian breeders would love.

"He's been incredibly popular in his first US season and we at Coolmore are very excited to getting him down here."

Kirwan said the stud's ranks had suffered from an Australian viewpoint last year with the death of High Chaparral and retirement of proven sires Encosta de Lago and Spinning World,

"We are extremely excited at the bolstering of our 2015 stallion ranks who will join 2014 newcomers Camelot and Declaration of War who stood their first seasons in Australia last year with excellent support from breeders.

"Coolmore will stand 12 stallions this year and we are debating on another prospect which will be decided upon over the weekend and we're hopeful our stallion prices will be decided early next week." Kirwan said.

It takes a wise man a lifetime to grow a tree and a fool five minutes to kill one.

I am 100% hook line and sinker this bloke...

he does not fit my brief of Aust raced + bred SPEED stallions only but this horse is the absolute x factor.

Outstanding pedigree... some speed influence coming via female line. A+++ on type.

What more could this horse have done... if he was home grown we would hold him the equal of so you think etc

Hello,
Adelaides damline had a familar ring for me. I wasn't wrong!

His Granddam was once imported to Germany, see entry at A.D.G.B.(German Thoroughbred Studbook, Vol. 36, page 231:

Flamanda (G.St.B. 43)
b., Dayspring Co. Ltd.,11.02.1993, by Niniski and Nemesia, by Mill Reef and Elegant Tern by Sea Bird and Prides Profile by Free America

imported from GB in 1996
she had 3 foals in Germany, 2000 Faniente (by College Chapel),
2001 Freedom (by Second Empire), 2002 Fitness (by Monsun),
1999 and 2003 barren,
no report
owner was K. Schulte

obviously she was later send back to GB/Ireland

I can imagine she was originally purchased by Mr. Schulte (Etzean Stud)because his successful Sire Dashing Blade was by Elegant Tern, from the the same damline as >Flamanda.

Her daughter Fitness is still in Germany, in the ownership of the "Ittlingen Stud", her offspring Fulminante (By Dashing Blade)is bred 2x3 Elegant Tern/Nemesia is a 3/4 relative of Elegant Air, Sire of Dashing Blade.

The Granddam is Prides Profile by Free America (same damline as Nijinsky). I Will/Tornado (see Konigsstuhl via Tiepoletto) are both tracing to Roseway 3x4 Feronia/Violet.

Hillbrook - Wrack/Robert Le Diable 3x4 Feronia/Violet
Monsun carries 2 strains of Ticino (Königsstuhl - Dschingis Khan - Neckar - Ticino; damline Monsun, Motette - Burgeff - Ticino)
his Granddam is Robert le Diable 3x4 Feronia/Violet.

Fulminates colt Firstclass is bred 4x4 Shirley Heights, 5x5x5 Mill Reef, 4x5 Sharpen Up.

Btw, a lesser performed "Family member" Firestorm (by Dylan Thomas), was placed at Group 3/Listed Level will be offered at the "Spring Auction" of the bbag-sales.de, Friday 5. June 2015. 3.00 p.m.,
Baden-Baden, Lot 48

regards, Ticino

Light as in weight ? or "light" on their feet ? have we seen a Galileo youngster win like that on our shores? she impressed all those who saw her today moreso the last furlong, late start at 2 could hold the key and the fact he hasn't rushed her, lets see her one more time to get a proper line on her , jockey likes her and he's got a bit of nous.

Sadlers 3s x 4s could be interesting but I very much like the multiples of Rough Shod, Flaring Top & Lalun (4) in the 8 gens Smile

Hi FP50.  Nice to have a mare from the family of the great Tobin Bronze and Comedy King.  I download races worldwide and still sometimes find Tobin Bronze in one from USA or South America.
Pity Sophony didn't race for you her dam was a good racemare.

That said are you trying for a middle distance stayer as Tobin Bronze himself was and your sire So You Think.  Because So You THink and his sire have performed much better in Australia mixed with our speed sires than with the staying lines of Europe.  And you have to remember Adelaide was a 2000+ horse.  Also the best recent ones have been by a Mr Prospector line sire (Symphony Miss) and Sophony's 1/2 sister Symphonette (by Helmet/Exceed and Excel).  THe Fastnet rock was a non winner by the Street Boss 2yo has had one start for a place so could also be an improver for the future.

That gives you a pretty good incite to the family.  Exceed and Excel has a number a young sire sons to choose from for type and family.  While one who could match would be Hallowed Crown. He is from the same sireline the 2yo and Symphony Miss - that of Mr Prospector.  And while he isn't Exceed and Excel he gives you the world class Danehill/So You THink cross.  I think only the Redoute's cross to So You THink is as good or better.  As the next dam is Bletchingly he carries the Danehill/Bletchingly cross which is in Redoute's as well.  While you don't get Zabeel or Sir Tristram this is the female line of Zabeel and Nureyev is on the the best crosses to Sadler's Wells for getting a good one also.

National Defense a young Invicible Spirit also has a bit to offer being the same female line as Helmet with a line of Mr Prospector through Kingmambo who also gives you Nureyev again.

A completely different look is try a Redoute's line sire.  Stratum Star wasn't just pure speed and looks nice on paper.

Hope your Adelaide goes well for you.

I have known Sophony since she was a foal. Always a very poor type with issues. Are you aware when put through the Melb. mid year sale as an untried 2 or 3 y.o. she did not even attract a bid & was eventually sold to J.Douglas Peterborough Vic. for $400. after the sale as the breeder just wanted to be rid of her.
Whilst the pedigree might look good on paper  I would be hesitant to spend too much money on her unless I was sure she would not reproduce herself

More info for you fp50
The F. Rock had wind problems. The Helmet & Street Boss are both good types and have some ability.
The rising 2yo by Brazen Beau is as compromised as Sophony
Thus I would have a good look at Sophony's foal due by Bon Hoffa in mid -Oct before making too many decisions
Sorry to be a bearer of bad news but I have looked closely at horses since the late 60's

With Glencoe's information maybe more red flags for this mating.  But as Brazen Beau has some of the same Redoute's blood as Stratum Star maybe look closely before thinking of that also.  Although Stratum Star did race on as an older horse and seemed to be sound.
