There are reports Snitzel was euthanised due to worsening liver complaint.

Such a wonderful stallion.
I'm proud to have sent mares to him in his first couple of seasons!

Lucky you VSP.  I am just proud to have been lucky enough to pat him . Cant recall a time being at Arrowfield when he wasnt there.  He looked terrible last stallion parade weekend so I am surprised he lasted this long really.
What a great Australian horse.   Very sad day .
I remember his breeder telling us how he was skint the year Snitzel was a yearliing and so he sold him, to his ever lasting regret.
Feel so sad .

I have been trying to get a nice Snitzel mare for breeding for the past year, this just makes it even harder now.
What a wonderful sire career he has had. RIP Champ.

But now, who takes over the reins? He hasn't really left a son to take over the legacy.
Is it the the end of the Danehill/Redoutes era?

You should be proud, VSP! Clap It must have been so gratifying to follow his success all these years.

And you, aa, to have seen him so many times - you have a rich life of experiences and memories!

Very interesting question, quiz!
I hope the Snitzel line doesn’t fade.
All the best getting your mare! Similar thing happened to me with Zabeel - one of the greatest regrets of my life, and getting greater as time goes by Cry So if you find her, go for it!

The rein of who is the best sire is an interesting question is interesting. Always been a Danehill Line stallion since his arrival (Danehill->Redoute's Choice->Snitzel) but now I'd say the title is well open. Probably about 10 or so sires who might step into that space.

Hopefully his line continues as he was a magnificent sire but it seems lines eventually cannibalize themself and an outcross takes over (Star Kingdom is a great example). Personally, if he is to leave a legacy, I think it has to come from an unraced one. While Shamus Award, Trapeze Artist and Russian Revolution are good sires, they arent top tier. Gut says Shinzo as he is coolmore backed and has terrific breeding but they seem more keen on Home Affaris and Switzerland.
