Trying something new tomorrow night. There's this roll/wrap/recipe around called a Philly cheese steak, it's popular in the US. Well there's a version that's slightly different I'm going to do, it's mince beef with cheese, so it's like a cheeseburger wrap.

Pan fry your mince with seasonings, make sure you get some nice browning on the mince, you can do it as patties if you want, then add American cheese slices, or Kraft singles or some of that processed cream cheese out of the jar/it's very similar to American cheese.

Using a long blade spatula chop it into the cooked mince so the cheese and mince are a nice blend. Hit it all with salt n pepper.

You then heat up a wrap or long bread roll, spread some burger sauce on, put lots of burger sauce if you want that authentic flavour, lay down a bed of shredded lettuce, then scoop up meat n cheese, lay your mince and cheese onto your lettuce, then wrap up the wrap, or squeeze roll together.

enjoy.

Isn't the Philly cheese steak a bit like an American souvlaki/ Subway? Basically strips of beef with melted cheese and salad/ sauce in a roll/ wrap?

Had KFC for the first time in about 30 years this morning.  Something called a "twister" and some over-salted chips.  Won't be back for another 30 years (should I last that long).  Unhappy

When I was young KFC was the only fast food franchise around. The old man used to buy it occasionally for a special treat, we loved it. Times have changed, had a piece of the chicken a few years back, okay but nothing special and I can and will live without it.

Basically I don't eat fast food, a hamburger maybe once a year, fish and chips twice a year, a falafal wrap now and then. Have never stooped so low as to eat McDonalds more than a few times and then mainly cheeseburgers, their thickshakes were good, don't know if they are still available.
Used to love food and had an enormous capacity, these days I am not really interested, eat enough to fuel my activities, that is all. Apart from sweets and cakes which I love, but even with those not so keen anymore

I reckon 90% of the taste is sentimental, whale. For those past a certain age anyway. I still get pulled by nostalgia into a drive-thru sometimes, but only ask for fresh drumsticks. They can taste a bit like my memories as a kid. The burgers and the rest are garbage and the breasts just ooze oil. My cat used to back away fast from KFC "chicken." God knows what it is or what's done to it.

Methinks Maccas is lying. Do you remember the story (possibly apocryphal) that Maccas advertised "100% Beef" in their burgers, but it turned out to be the brand name of a company they got their crappy meat from?

If you can trust Snopes, that "100% Beef" company thing is an urban myth.

A McOz is the only good burger at Maccas.

 It has beetroot on it.

KFC is crap these days. Once it was edible, but not now.

All the KFC's Ive been to lately are run by spotty teens, literally 14 and 15 yr olds with 18 yr old managers.

The one I went to the other night to get some chips n gravy, behind the counter was an absolute disgrace, the amount of food and wrappings and litter on the floor, I was shocked, it looked as though someone had opened a bag of rubbish and just strewn it around everywhere.

When I asked the girl why was so much rubbish on the floor behind the counter, she got embarrassed and said sheepishly that it was busy.

I wouldn't have gone in the store and seen any of this, but I had originally went to the drive thru, they told me my chips weren't ready, so could I park out front and someone would come bring them to me.

Well 15 mins later still no chips n gravy, so I went in to ask. They had forgotten my order apparently, along with two other cars who also got out of their cars and wandered in like I did.

I remember driving away thinking good grief, the Kernel would be turning in his grave if he saw his franchise these days.

It's nothing like it was in the 70's and 80's. There is barely any flavour in the chicken coating and you are lucky if you get chips with any salt on. With everything about cost, I guess they just use plain flour as coating now and season chips with cheapest nasty chicken salt they can get. It tastes nothing like I remember.

Don't get out that much, couldn't be bothered. But wouldn't call eating fast food getting out, most people get it delivered anyway. I am a bit more selective, when I go out to eat I eat proper food at a restaurant or cafe. But each to their own, I know the GC is full of cheap, tawdry people, lacking class so you fit in perfectly there Wink

Yes Fiddles.

Macca’s outlets are cleaner and the toilets look like they’re done regularly.

Look behind a KFC or Hungry Jacks counter and you will see old fries on the floor.

Still doesn’t stop me from thinking, “The burgers are better at Hungry Jacks”.
