Ex-prime minister Scott Morrison is among dozens of people being sought by government lawyers as they build a defence against a compensation claim by Brittany Higgins' former boss.

The former Liberal leader was ensnared in Fiona Brown's case after she alleged he made a false statement to parliament after the Higgins rape scandal erupted in 2021.

The commission said this conduct seriously compromised the integrity of the inquiry, breached public trust and created an apprehension of bias, especially in relation to his adverse findings against then DPP Shane Drumgold SC.

In December 2025 he lost his appeal and was unable to overturn the finding that he engaged in corrupt conduct, meaning the Integrity Commission’s adverse findings remain in place.

There was no evidence presented in the Reynolds or Lehmann defamation hearings that Higgins was silenced by threats of defamation action prior to speaking-up and the Llewellyn/Wilkinson programme being advertised and aired. Never presume intelligence or commonsense are good currency in any government role, regardless of their level, flashy title, superannuation balance or ability to use archaic or obscure words (ordinarily ripped from a Don Watson or George Orwell classic and used in the wrong context) and speak fluent Aconym.
