Have not been involved or thought about doing it before, hence the 101 dummies question.

1. What would the expected costs be for a broodmare owner under a foal share agreement from cover to foaling down to weanling or yearling prep to sales? Is it is a simple as a 50:50 split.
2. Who is the managing party - is it typically the stud farm that dictates that the mare is agisted with the farm right through to sale including decision making on all vet care and costs.

FWIW we considered a foal share, but after doing the pros and cons decided not to as i think the top end is way better positioned to have any advantage as all care is borne by the mare owner. agistment vet care  farrier transport weaning sales prep prob not much change from 20k, probably a little less for those lucky enough not to rely on agistment, but the feed costs would still be there,if a higher return was possible, probably well worth it so you would need to get 60k off a 30k service fee for any chance of a profit on the venture,  in this case 10k, which is hardly worth the risk for a smaller breeder, far better to suck it up do your homework on values etc and live with the decision. in relation to q2, it all depends on what is accepted on any contracts offered, as they would more than likely vary
