Came across this fellow at Warwick Farm in the last tomorrow ...

FIERCE IMPACT (JPN)
4yo Bay Horse
D.O.B: 06-Mar-2014
by DEEP IMPACT (JPN)  from KEIAI GERBERA (JPN)
5x Pedigree Report

http://www.racingaustralia.horse/InteractiveForm/HorseFullForm.aspx?horsecode=NTI2ODE2ODcwNA%3d%3d&src=horseform&raceentry=MTEzNTU5MjI0MzI%3d

Japanese bred entire, who was sparingly raced in UK with modest results.

Has drifted to $31 in what would seem an unsuitable 1300m (goes in the multi just in case!Wink).

Was wondering, how does the breeding stack up, being by Deep Impact, I would assume he's meant to be above average ... any clues on the dam side?
In reference to every post in the Trump thread ... "There may have been a tiny bit of license taken there" ... Ok, Thanks for the "heads up" PT!

Japanese import to make Fierce Impact at first Aussie start

Trainer Matthew Smith will saddle up one of the most interesting runners in Australia at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

The Warwick Farm conditioner will have the Japanese bred, and UK raced Fierce Impact line up for his first Australian start in the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1300m).

The four-year-old son of champion Japanese stallion Deep Impact was stakes placed over 2253m at Goodwood in May 2017 before only one more placing from his next four starts.

Smith, on the advise of agent Avo Damirdjian, secured the horse for 120,000 guineas (AUD $220,000) earlier this year when searching for tried horses to bolster his stable and despite all of the horse’s recent form being beyond 2000m he believes Fierce Impact will be much better suited to sprint trips.

“We felt the horse didn’t stay and he was bred to sprint which is why we took a punt on him,” Smith said.

“I think he is more a sprinter, miler.

“A few races over there he ran pretty close to a couple of decent horses – he did mix his form a bit but we think they just tried to stretch him too far.

“You just don’t know what sort of surprise you will get with these horses.

“We saw on the weekend one of Chris Waller’s horses won first-up and they didn’t really have any expectations. We train them a lot differently to how they have been trained and a lot of them appreciate that easier style of work.

“He’s a nice horse.”

Fierce Impact has been readied for his first Australian start with two trials, the most recent of which he finished second over 900m at Canterbury behind Nonpareil.

“He has a couple of trials here and he has acclimatised well - I’m really happy with where he is up to,” he said.

“I expect him to run well on Wednesday but we are still learning about the horse, what he likes and what he doesn’t.”

“It all comes down to whether he can sprint quick enough on Wednesday but he’s probably never been as fresh in his life as he is now.

“We won’t bustle him, he’ll just go back and hopefully he can sprint home over the top of them.”

Smith’s ultimate aim is to make a stallion of the new acquisition and his stud credentials were done no harm when his brother Keiai Nautique claimed a maiden Group I win in the Mile Cup at Tokyo on Sunday.

“His brother won a Group I in Japan on Sunday so that is a nice pedigree update, especially if we can win some black type with him,” Smith said.

“He’s got a very good pedigree, he’s out of a Group winning mare and now obviously he is a full brother to a Group I winner.

“If he can win the right race, he’s definitely a stallion prospect.”

Fierce Impact has drawn wide in barrier 16 and is currently a $34 chance with Sportsbet.

Hope you were on EW rather than just sticking him in the multi (or that the multi was for him to run a place)!

Had the flashing light last start, got to sit closer today, but looked to be struggling to get to them in the straight, then just savaged the line - has a turn of foot, and will be better over longer, and probably nest time in.

Don't get too excited.  They haven't beat anything yet so along way to go with 3 wins from 14 starts.  I think we have had better Deep Impacts around but at least he picked up some black type so I may be underestimating him.

Has the trainer decided he is a stayer now ?

Nice effort. A nice month between runs obviously did not hurt.

Exploded away from them again today adding a wet track success too ... I think the owners would be on good terms with themselves after taking the plunge on a Japanese bred Yarmouth Maiden winner (interestingly, he did beat one called Alfarris that day, and beat Raheen house home in stakes company subsequently).

Well done, a bit of patience and foresight, and they have a very valuable stallion prospect now!Thumbs Up

What would they have paid, and what would he be worth now?

He has to be at least worth as much as Tosen Stardom, although he did have the wfa group 1on th resume.

I know his form is better fresh, but maybe his WFA group 1, comes next Saturday in the Emirates.

Smith hoping to make Fierce Impact on Cox Plate

Smith hoping to make Fierce Impact on Cox Plate

Trainer Matthew Smith has outlined spring plans for Fierce Impact that he hopes will end with a Cox Plate after connections passed up the opportunity to send the dual Group I winner to stud, instead pursuing Australia's premier WFA race.

It has been a rare sight to see a stallion prospect race on past three or four-years-old in recent times but Fierce Impact will get to enjoy the beginning of his seven-year-old season later this year.

The star son of Deep Impact received interest from several stud farms but connections elected to again race on with the talented middle distance runner after a big spring last year.

Fierce Impact was one of last springs top performers, winning the Group I Toorak Handicap and then the Group I Cantala Stakes at Caulfield and Flemington respectively.

He was Group I placed again in the CF Orr Stakes in February when runner-up to Alabama Express with that three-year-old later sent off to stud.

Fierce Impact will ultimately be destined for the same fate eventually, but not before another spring assault.

"You just can't get horses like this and the owners have been outstanding," Smith said.

"To keep him in for another preparation is unreal and you know what, I am going to see. I think he is a better 2000m horse than he is a miler.

"I have always believed he will be better at 2000m. It was just he was aimed up for those races (over the mile) that suit him at the handicap but I think he will be as good at 2000m."

Fierce Impact has recently returned to Smiths base at Warwick Farm and is impressing his trainer.

The six-year-old will be set for the Winx Stakes (1400m) first-up at Saturday, August 24 at Randwick.

"He is on track and going super having started fast work and is in really good shape," Smith said.

"The aim is to definitely start his preparation here (Sydney) and then go to Melbourne and into the Underwood Stakes or one of those races before the Cox Plate.

He will definitely start in the Winx Stakes then maybe head to the Chelmsford, Underwood into the Cox Plate."

Smith enjoyed a successful day at Rosehill on Saturday with Sweet Thomas winning the Stayers Cup.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!
