    Posted: 03 Jun 2020 at 4:38pm
• The first two Minneapolis police officers to arrive on the scene were Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng. It is almost suspiciously difficult to find pictures of them online, but judging from the two screencaps, Lane looks to be a light-skinned black man and Kueng appears to be Asian. There’s no disputing that Tuo Thao, who showed up along with the unfortunately surnamed white officer Derek Chauvin after George Floyd was already handcuffed, is Asian. A brief search of his surname suggests it has a Thai or Cambodian origin. And Derek Chauvin—the white cop with the creepy glower who “took a knee” on George Floyd’s neck and kept it there long after Floyd was unconscious—was married to a Hmong refugee and beauty-pageant contestant; that is, until he was arrested for third-degree murder last week, whereupon she promptly filed divorce papers. But there was only one white cop out of the four—one and a half if you want to speculate about Thomas Lane’s mom—and the only 100% Caucasian one was married to an Asian. None of this has any meaning beyond making the “four racist white cops” narrative look stupid. Not that the narrative will be affected—it’s stupid to think it would.

• At one point during the clip where Chauvin has Floyd down on the ground with his knee on his neck, one of the cops says, “This is why you don’t do drugs, kids.” There were originally rumors that Floyd had said “I can’t breathe” before he was on the ground. The police report also states that he bizarrely threw himself on the ground. The official charging document against Chauvin states that Floyd was not choked or strangled to death but may have died from a toxic cocktail of arrest-induced panic alongside a heart condition and drugs which have yet to be named:

The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.

Again, I don’t expect any of this to change the narrative that he died from his neck being crushed under a racist white man’s Knee of Hate. I will also state that the entire knee maneuver was stupid and probably illegal. That’s an entirely separate issue from whether America should be burnt to cinders as a result.

Entirely irrelevant. The only relevant fact is that after the suspect was handcuffed behind his back and prone, and the arresting officer had total control of the situation, the officer kept his full weight on the suspects neck for 8 minutes.

Wouldn't have mattered if he was arresting the Green River killer high on pills and speed. It would still be manslaughter at least.

And the independent autopsy found that death was a homicide caused by strangulation by the arresting officer.

Who said they were all white?

The first witness who knew the dead man also knew and had worked with the Asian officer and identified him as Asian on several networks. That was the day it happened.

Some people should stay off Facebook.

The Human Rights Commission is doing a root and branch investigation of 10 years cases in that department. They should sort it out.

Plain That a murder charge can't be sustained.

The intent to kill wasn't there.

Manslaughter can be, causing death by a negligent act , and/or many other definitions.
Police do have a duty of care and I'd be thinking a manslaughter charge would stand up, against one officer at least.

Third degree murder doesn't require intent to kill.

I am sure they will find it a barrel of laughs. The State wont own the police department atrocities.

State of Minnesota files civil rights charge against Minneapolis Police Department

The inquiry, stemming from the death of George Floyd, will be designed to root out "systemic racism that is generations deep," Gov. Tim Walz told reporters.

The scary thing is this is even something that must be trained - they call it the carotid artery hold.  With something that important to the brain one whould wonder just how much damage this has done to people.  Not just these four police have to be aware of this hold.  So retraining seems to be needed and different people put in charge of training.

So the elected Democrats claim that they don't run the Police Department ... is that the same with Health Services ...

Department records, however, show that such restraint techniques have continued to be used in Minneapolis, although they are sometimes called by different names. In 2012, there were 79 occurrences and in 2013, there were 69. That dropped to 40 in 2018 and was back up to 56 last year. The technique was used against African-Americans far more than other groups, the records show.

furious, we know where this will go ... it will be like the Don Dale saga and ... where they banned spit hoods, remember ... and then they had to reinstate them because they are necessary to protect anyone who interacts with these violent criminal bastards.

Just retrain the police so that they don't have the tools to restrain a 6 foot 6 inch 150 kg drugged up career criminal of any colour ... see how many cops get killed, or just leave the force.

Joe Biden has the answer - he says that black offenders should be shot in the leg and not in the chest ... there fixed! ... dementia is a terrible disease. Wacko

Yeah I've read that too. Supposedly it is good for immobilising people because it gives the sensation of not being able to breathe, but you still can. Used in martial arts etc. It's pressure on the artery to cut off blood and daze someone - but not any pressure on the windpipe. My guess is that it's taught/ used but is not meant to be done for 8 minutes straight, especially if someone has gone limp 3 mins ago!
It seems most likely he died of a cardiac event caused by a combunation of a history of heart problems, intoxicants and the trauma of the incident. The first autopsy seemed biased (to me) toward protecting the cops and the second seems biased the other way. I haven't watched more than a few seconds of the video because I don't like watching someone die, but I certainly don't believe the argument of "just watch the video and you'll see him being strangled to death."

Not the point of the protests any way, but facts should matter, and it's probably not the last we'll hear of exactly how he died.

I think that is what Obama is at pains to emphasise. You can't effect change by not voting, even if you don't necessarily, by actually voting.
