Now heads the 1st Season sires list.  Such a pity he appears sub-fertile.

Well two first season sires have the first two G1's.  Can they keep it up as Tiger of Malay looks a pick me over a bit further.  Artorius (Flying Artie) was toey today (Maybe to long between races) and Ingratiating (Frosted) both also look to have the chance to go further.

Would be a brilliant first season sires group to pick them all up.  They are doing pretty well anyway.  But yes hopefully this boy can overcome the sub-fertility.

Extreme Choice Fee Private

Media Release - Wednesday April 21

Newgate has announced Australia’s current Leading Sire of 2YOs and Leading First Crop Sire EXTREME CHOICE as PRIVATE for the 2021 season.

Extreme Choice will cover a restricted book at a private fee.

Extreme Choice will cover a restricted book at a private fee.

Newgate’s Managing Director Henry Field explained further, “We have worked out through experience and advice that Extreme Choice is most effective in the shed when we cover a restricted book. As a result, his book is limited to his shareholders. We will be doing a select number of foal shares as well and I would encourage breeders to put up their better mares for this opportunity.”

From a foal crop of just 48, Extreme Choice has done a remarkable job siring Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO elect Stay Inside amongst five first crop Metropolitan winners.

His progeny also include the highly thought of and unbeaten NZ 2YO Palamos and Group 1 aspirants Tiger of Malay, Extreme Warrior as well as today’s Sydney winner Xtremetime - read about her here..

“He is a freak, his stats are off the charts,” commented Henry Field.

“He is going to make a strong mark on our industry over the next decade or so and we are delighted to have already secured Australia’s best 2YO Stay Inside to stand alongside his father after his racing career.”

Breeders interested in accessing Extreme Choice thorough a foal share in 2021 are encouraged to contact the Newgate nominations team at their earliest convenience as we only have a limited number available.

The remaining fees for all of the Newgate stallions will be announced next week.

Wisdom has been chasing me but I've always outrun it!

Espiona is stakes winner no., 6 from the first crop of Newgate's Extreme Choice - an amazing effort with just 48 live foals in that crop!
And what a pedigree she has - crosses of Easy Date and Best In Show

I suppose 60% is better than nothing, but I wonder if the mares that miss out would be that worse off if they went back to be covered NH time?

I see from the first season (when he was an open shop), that a lot of the owners that cut bait early managed to produce a foal elsewhere. Now that his book is limited to the shareholders, would there be any temptation to try and breed a similar number of foals with the aim to sell into Honkers or wherever, otherwise race as late 3yo?

Sure he’s off to a promising start, but geez a massive spike in his service fee to $275,000 announced by Newgate Shocked

Not sure why anyone would pay that when the likes of Snitzel, SYT, Pierro, Fastnet Rock & co are all significantly cheaper.

THey have to be going on the prices the yearlings are bringing.  So few of them.  But yes it is an extreme jump even for this sire.  I guess they can keep some of the other stallions prices down as they do seem to serve lots of mares and this boy can't?  But I think more than this one are overpriced.  Glad I'm not a breeder trying to work my way through this minefield.  No good going to a lesser stallion your only letting your mare down but any decent stallion is way over the market.  If your one of 48 you have a chance in the sale ring.  If your one of 200 not so good if the yearling has any blemish at all.  Even down to an unpopular colour.

Fastnet, SYT, and Pierro are excellent horses but they're not performing at that level.  To a certain extent, they're also catering to different sectors of the market.  So You Think and Pierro are not going to be go-to stallions for people who want to breed a fast sprinter or a Slipper winner.  Fastnet Rock is getting up there in age and as a son of Danehill may not be suitable pedigree-wise for a lot of mares, whereas Extreme Choice is a great grandson with an outcross North American mareline.

That leaves Snitzel and Vinnie, both of whom were in the $200k-ish price range for 2019/2020.  Snitzel's average 2022 sales yearling knocked down for about $550k and there were 74 to choose from.  Vinnie had 88 and the average was $585k.  Both stallions have about 8% stakes winners from foals over their careers.

In Extreme Choice's first crop, 1 of every 7 foals is a stakes winner (14%) and one of every 10 foals is a graded stakes winner.  In his second crop, he has 4 runners so far (per Arion) and 1 of them is a Gr-1 2yo classic winner.  Those are both off a $22k fee, and the mares he saw reflect that.

So -- aggressive but not completely unreasonable, and much closer to sanity than some other fees at Newgate (Capitalist, Deep Field).

And now gets an Oaks winner from a mare bred to go 1200m! 1000m if Quest For Fame wasn't in the pedigree.

That was a pretty poor Oaks field.

I doubt anything from this Oaks will go anywhere near the other 27 Oaks races in the Country.
