Seems a number of industry figures have joined forces and thought they'd buy a "cracking" type and any price.

Must have been at least two competing parties to reach that opinion. Who was the underbiddder?

Exactly, would love to find out the underbidder, Daniel Maxwell may have returned or Maybe Sangster was floating around, only to disappear as soon as bidding finished....

Not sure if this qualifies as an expensive flop, given the horse hasn’t raced yet.

But doing the form for Kembla Grange today & noticed a horse called Lambardi making his debut in Race 5, a 1400m maiden.

Was a $1.1m yearling by Fastnet Rock.  Had 7 trials for Chris Waller, then sold in August for $100k and transferred to a Kembla based trainer Brad Lazzarini.

The Inglis digital listing in August was:

A regally bred colt who was a $1.1 million yearling, the unraced three-year-old Lambardi is being sold to dissolve a syndicate.

Currently spelling at Limitless Lodge, the syndicate is selling as the trainer has advised that this colt should be gelded for him to reach his full potential and the ownership group is only interested in racing stallion prospects.

Well gelding might help Foxseal, and he clearly needs some assistance.  Wink

Did not look too bad but the winner flew on the outside of the track. Strategy tried to lead all the way and was stuck too close to the rail. Nice debut. Will win.

Realistically how much better chance do you have to find a good yearling with big dollars as mating with a good stallion can be quite cheap. I assume its the mare's side that costs all the money.

If you buy a $2m yearling with great bloodlines do you get a 100x better chance than something that costs $20k?

Same chance, however your trainer and Bloodstock agent would not be living anywhere near as well if you bought a cheaper one.

That maiden win may have to be at the provincials for Mount Fuji. This $2.8m colt went around as an even money fave in a Canterbury maiden tonight and could only manage 4th of 7.

Who knows we might see him listed on Inglis Digital sometime soon.

I notice another high priced James Harron Bloodstock purchase is listed in the current Inglis online auction.  A Snitzel gelding called Colonel cost him $900,000.  Being disposed of after only 6 starts with current high bid at $7,500 Ouch

Has there been any notable cases of these million dollar discards being snapped up cheap, and becoming successful racehorses ?

No his breeder kept him, in the end,,, and shared him out with friends.  The bloke from Meringo Stud,,,,big wig at the AJC at one time,,,Tony Hartnell.    They tried  , and then sacked him after about 2 years. Put him thru the sales. And Joe bought him for approx $1400.

Saw that horse have his first start up the straight six at Flem . a dromedary from the start , buyer Holmes A Court , should have consulted George H. his trainer first Wink George would have told him to buy a pie with sauce for more value , but money does that to some.

Paint the Stars was a few years before my time, but do remember seeing plenty of his progeny racing in the late 80’s & 90’s.

Looking at the stud book he was popular enough with broodmare owners as he covered 544 mares in his 12 years as a stallion.  And had a handful of black type stakes winners.

If Mt Fuji went to stud, I doubt he’d be as popular as PTS, and the last thing we need is another son of Snitzel at stud.

I've got a small share in a magnificent looking lemon racing today. Great type, great pedigree ( according to supposed breeding expert). Sadly no engine.

I really liked him as a type but he didn't suit my pedigree analysis, but I reasoned that I am not an expert so in I went. First time in 40 years that I went outside my homebreds. Alas!  Oh well, lesson learned

Stewards reports suggest Mt Fuji not without his breathing issues.
