The highlight of today's meeting at Newmarket was the running of the Gp3 Craven Stakes for 3yo colts & geldings over a mile. The long odds on favourite was Native Trail  (3c  Oasis Dream x Needleleaf, by Observatory) who won all his 4 starts as a 2yo including Gp1 Dewhurst Stakes, Gp1 National Stakes & Gp2 Superlative Stakes.

Native Trail settled 5th, took a while to hit the front but very impressive over the final furlong drawing away to win by probably more than 3 lengths from Claymore with Hoo Ya Mal in 3rd place.

Native Trail has now firmed into 6/4 favourite for the Two Thousand Guineas.

Sorry Carioca you have come down in the world.  A mare called Carioca had the last in the 2yo race at Yarmouth today.  Not a pinch like our Aussie Carioca from the 1950's.

The Two Thousand Guineas for 3yo colts over a mile at Newmarket has been won by the Godolphin runner, Coroebus (3c Dubawi - First Victory, by Teofilo) who defeated his stablemate, the previously unbeaten Native Trail with Luxembourg in 3rd place.

Damline details of Coroebus:-

The Gp1 One Thousand Guineas for 3yo fillies over a mile at Newmarket was won by Cachet  (3f  Aclaim x Poyle Sophie, by Teofilo) who led all the way defeating Prosperous Voyage & Tuesday. James Doyle rides the Guineas double.

Last month, she won the Gp3 Nell Gwyn Stakes. These are her damline details:-

I notice her sire, Aclaim, is by Acclamation out of a Danroad mare. So, a bit of Australian blood.

Aclaim's first foals are 3yos of 2022 but Cachet is his only stakeswinner so far. On the track, Aclaim won the Gp1 Prix de la Foret & Gp2 Challenge S.

This season 6 winners from 8 runners including the above Gp3 winner and another Listed winner.

And believe Robbo's got one on his hands that nobody wanted.

Found it a 2000m 3yo SW race - probably heading for the Derby.  So an Australian bred son of Redoute's Choice with stakes wins from 1100m to 1350m has 2000m and a 1600m stakeswinners from German breed stouter mares.  He's inbred to Lunchtime has Canny Lad, Snippets, Vain and comes from the Hebrew Maid line which also produced Danzero to the Danehill line.

But back in his pedigree is lots of stamina - Alcimedes, Marco Polo, Foxbridge, Martian etc.   We just don't use our lines out over a distance but Europe is certainly enjoying them.

As I said in another thread.  Less that 1000 foals born each year in German.  Not bad that 2 of them are now Stakes winners from Counterattacks 2018 first serve season in German.

Ok this is very funny.  The second horse was by a son of Deep Impact who has Penpont (NZ) as his second dam and Imposing (AUS) as the sire of her dam Imposing Star.  While the dam is a French mare with Tobin Bronze (AUS) in her pedigree.  The world is getting so small.

The Chester Vase has been won by Changingoftheguard  (3c Galileo x Lady Lara, by Excellent Art) who led and ran away from the odds on favourite New London.

After that performance, he should be one of the favourites for the Epsom Derby.

Love the blaze. Number 7! The photo was taken from an earlier race.

Changingoftheguard is now 2nd favourite for the Epsom Derby behind Luxembourg. Both colts are owned by Westerberg (the racing operation of Georg von Opel) along with the Coolmore team.

Luxembourg ran 3rd in the Two Thousand Guineas.

Not sure he has the class to win a Derby.

He was relentless that is for sure.

He had every horse off the bit including himself a long way out. It was a fair dinkum stamina test despite just the 4 contestants.

I dare say he will be a 2 miler as he gets older.

The LR Spring Trophy Stakes over 7 furlongs at Haydock was won in very impressive manner by Aldaary  (4g  Territories x Broughtons Revival, by Pivotal). Last year he won some very good handicaps (Balmoral H, Challenge Cup) & this year looks a likely Group winner. He is owned by Shadwell who also tasted success at Ascot winning the LR Buckhounds Stakes with Al Aasy. This time last year he scored easy wins in a couple of Gp3s & was a close 2nd in the Gp1 Coronation Cup. However, he seemed to lose form as the season progressed. I notice he has been gelded.

The LR Lingfield Derby Trial was won by United Nations (3c  Galileo x Christmas Kid, by Lemon Drop Kid). The LR Lingfield Oaks Trial was won by Rogue Millennium  (3f  Dubawi x Hawaafez, by Nayef). The Gp3 Chartwell Fillies Stakes over 7 furlongs was won by Lola Showgirl  (5m  Night Of Thunder x Exempt, by Exceed And Excel).

Also, as mentioned elsewhere, the Gp3 Blue Wind Stakes over 10 furlongs at Naas was won by Tranquil Lady  (3f  Australia x Repose, by Quiet American). Repose is also the dam of State Of Rest.

Big news today with the announcement that ruling Derby favourite, Luxembourg, will not be running in that race.

However, it is possible that we saw the new Derby favourite in action today as the Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown was won by Stone Age (3c  Galileo x Bonanza Creek, by Anabaa) who scored impressively by 5½ lengths from Glory Daze.

He is trained by Aidan O'Brien who has dominated the prep races for the Derby this year winning Leopardstown Derby Trial Stakes, Lingfield Derby Trial, Chester Vase & Dee Stakes while his son Donnacha won the Ballysax Stakes.

Two Group races at York. Both resulted in easy wins.

The Gp2 Duke Of York Stakes over 6 furlongs was won by Highfield Princess  (5m Night Of Thunder x Pure Illusion, by Danehill) who scored by 2¾ lengths from Spycatcher with Minzaal in 3rd place. Undoubtedly, she will be aimed at the Platinum Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The Musidora Stakes for 3yo fillies over 10½ furlongs was won by the unbeaten Emily Upjohn (3f Sea The Stars x Hidden Brief, by Barathea) with 5½ lengths back to Life Of Dreams in 2nd place with Ching Shih third. She is now 6/4 favourite for the Oaks at Epsom.

The Gp2 Dante Stakes for 3yos over 10½ furlongs was won impressively by Desert Crown  (3c  Nathaniel x Desert Berry, by Green Desert) who scored by 3¼ lengths from Royal Patronage with Bluegrass 3rd. Looked as though he will have no problems running out the mile and a half & is now 2/1 favourite for the Derby.

Earlier the Gp2 Middleton Stakes for mares over 10½ furlongs was won by Lilac Road (4m Mastercraftsman x Lavender Lane, by Shamardal).
