Story 1
Large unit block in Northern Suburbs Sydney - 85 apartments Common property only - lights / pool / lifts etc.(not individual apartments) - 60% usage subsidised via solar on roof Current contract finishes Sept - new 3 year contract quote requested from numerous providers- only one provider would provide. Yesterday that provider withdrew the contract offer based on "energy market" volatility. Cost details Current - Peak ; 9.2119 c/kWh Off Peak ; 6.7526 c/kWh New Contract 4 yr (since withdrawn) - Peak 27.6719 c/kWh Off Peak 19.7193 (Year 1) The rates trend down to Year 4 - Peak ; 15.5458 c/kWh Off Peak 11.0437 The end result averaged over 4 years is more than a doubling of the Electricity costs I suggest this thread will become quite popular in the coming months

There is one good thing that will come out of this. The transfer to renewables will become much more economically viable. Pretty tough tough way to achieve it though - freeze people to death

My electricity bill has gone down since the younger daughter left home.
No more twenty-minute hot showers helped lower the bill, as well as less heating and cooling. My advice: kick the kids out, as soon as they have a job. |

Talking about possible submersibles, the past government damn near bought my 12-yo tinnie c/w outboard for coastal surveillance work - without actually seeing if it was operational.
But was

Spuddy is onto Labor.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers this week warned a “perfect storm” had brought about a spike in energy prices and warned cost-of-living pressures would remain for some time. Mr Dutton jumped on the comments to attack Labor by making a strange claim about energy prices. “People are going to have to brace themselves for what electricity prices are going to be over the next three years, given Labor’s energy policy,” he told 2GB radio. “They don’t want you to use electricity and that’s why they’re pricing it higher and higher.” |

Gee - apparently a few items in that storm are poorly maintained coal stations resulting in massive downtimes - & a lack of coal because its being sent off-shore to higher prices.
I mean who can blame them - the environment around coal as a major fuel source is such great vibe at the moment. Where's the Climate 200 mob ?

One way of proving green energy is cheaper i suppose. Set up condition to send fossil fuel to go through the roof - & then say - "look how much cheaper renewables are". Will work every time

After nine years of denial and delay, the former government promised a gas-fired recovery but Australians got a gas bin fire. The Albanese Government will work cooperatively with States, Territories and industry on the current crisis: Chris Bowen |

I can see the double whammy next - supply issues on top of massive price hikes.

Cap the domestic price of gas, or mandate a percentage of gas for domestic use so power companies dont pay the international price for our own gas should go a long way to sorting this.

Get onto your mate running AGL now. You know - the green activist fellow with too much money who reckons the transfer to renewables will be a piece of cake.

And that needs to change!!!
ps yet another total fail by the totally disgraced former Government.
Even down to the quite deliberate prior to election suppression (non-release) of the Australian Energy Regulator et al programmed release of forward pricing data. |
