Hello,
The Germanbred Walderbe (by Maxios, 5 year old, NH)) ran a very good 2ndplace in the 'Dubai Gold Cup' (3200 meter, Gr.II) at Meydan. He raced during the last seasons mostly in France/Italy and atleast 3 races in Germany. Walderbe is from the same damline as Waldgeist (won "Arc") and Waldpark (won German Derby) Best regards from Germany, Ticino

Time compares favourably with Kingston Rule's 3-16-3 in 1990 Melbourne Cup.

Aussie sprinters leave for Dubai testAustralia’s latest international representatives left for Dubai on Monday. The Will Clarken-trained pair He’s A Balter and Parsifal will head to the Middle East to tackle support races during the Dubai World Cup carnival. Clarken said the pair travelled from his Adelaide base to Melbourne on Friday before their 14-hour flight to Dubai. “They will be in Dubai on Tuesday,” he said. “Then they will do a few days of not much.” Clarken reported He’s A Balter would be the first to tackle the local and visiting opposition. “He’s A Balter will run on Saturday fortnight over there,” Clarken said. “It’s exciting for the stable and it will be great to see how both horses go over there.” Young SA jockey Caitlin Jones will ride Clarken’s Dubai runners. |

The winner of He's a Balter's race is a G2 winner in France but more a consistent Listed/G3 performer. Good run by He's A Balter considering rated 89.

Hot Rod Charlie prepping for the World Cup made easy work of tonight's foes in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge, Round 2 wining by 5 1/2 lengths of the 1,900 metres. Starting as 8/15on favourite will be all the rage in a month's time. |

No sorry what I meant was - Hot Rod Charlie is American trained. Do they have much success in the sprints in Dubai?

It was nearly a three way dead heat but and it took about 15 minutes for the result to be known but Lord North and Panthalassa dead heat in the Group 1 Dubai Turf (1800m) at Meydan, a close finish. Lord North also won this race in 2021.

G3 Dubai Millenium Stakes at Meydan (UAE) 2000m Nations Pride (IRE) (4C Galileo-Important Time, by Oasis Dream) resuming after an excellent campaign in the US last season bolted in by 1 1/4 lengths with William Buick aboard. Zagrey (FR) was gaining late without threatening the winner and Godolphin also landed third with Ottoman Fleet (GB). Plans are to race in England in springtime before shipping back across the Atlantic.

The winner of the Jumeriah Derby overnight was Sharar, a Kentucky-bred son of Gun Runner, is out of the Saint Ballado mare Sacre Coeur, making him a half brother to 2017 Eclipse champion turf female Lady Eli. Both Sharar and Lady Eli were bred by Runnymede Farm and Catesby W. Clay. Sharar sold for US$600,000 out of the Eddie Woods consignment at the US Ocala Breeders' Sales' 2022 March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. With The Moonlight easy won by 4 1/2-length victory in the featured G2 Balanchine Stakes on the turf confirmed she's ready for another assault on New York's rich turf filly races this summer. There was little to the running as jockey William Buick placed the Frankel filly just behind the early speed, rallied through that pack after turning for home and was clearly best. She finished the 1,800 meters (about 1 1/8 miles) in 1:49.47. In the Jumeirah Fillies Godolphin fillies finished 1-2 but it wasn't close as Mawj kicked away in the stretch run to win by 8 1/2 lengths from Fairy Cross. Mawj went out to an unchallenged lead in the 1,600-meter turf race, showed the way around the turn, and found no competition through the final 200 meters. Alseyoob was third, 1 1/4 lengths back. Mawj, a homebred daughter of Exceed And Excel (AUS), had the recency advantage over Fairy Cross, having won her first start of 2023 Jan. 27 at Meydan while Fairy Cross had not raced since August. The question was whether Mawj could stay the mile for the first time.
