The Gp1 Dubai Sheema Classic over 12 furlongs (Turf) has been won by Rebel's Romance (6g Dubawi x Minidress, by Street Cry) defeating Shahryar & Liberty Island. It was a bizarre race as the three leaders (which included Rebel's Romance & Shahryar) got a long way in front of the rest of the field & the likes of Liberty Island & Emily Upjohn were flying home but unable to catch those two.

Just a note about the winner Laurel River who is owned by Juddmonte Farms.

As a 6YO is lightly raced with the G1 Dubai World Cup his 10th start now for 6 wins.

BUTT

In his last race that he raced in the US in August 2022  Laurel River won the SEVEN FURLONG G2 Pat O’Brien Stakes defeating Senor Buscador, Defunded, The Chosen Vron and C Z Rocket!!!!!! The first two mentioned both ran in tonight's WCup while The Chosen Vron since his defeat in the Pat O'Brien in 2022 has won eleven from 12 starts (all in SoCal) and C Z Rocket was also one fast animal.

That reminds me of the great US horse Precisionist, who won the G1 BC Sprint and G1 Woodward Stakes over 1 1/8 miles and G2 Strub Stakes over 1 1/4 miles.

The Gp1 Al Quoz Sprint over 6 furlongs has been won by Believing (5m Mehmas x Misfortunate, by Kodiac) who defeated Win Carnelian & Regional.

Believing ran a number of placings in Group Ones last year so it was good to see her finally win at the highest level

But tragically, the Australian bred & Hong Kong trained sprinter, Howdeepisyourlove broke down badly during the running of the race.

Many thanks for your summaries Grey! It's tedious scrolling through media to find out what happened in each race, so your comments are much appreciated. Clap
Hope you're well and enjoying the spring up there!

2 x G1s tomorrow (night) in Dubai.  Dirt race over 1900m and 6 of the 9 runners have the same trainer.  Just 6 runners in the turf race over 1800m and Appleby trains two of them.

There is a race on the card, the G3 UAE Guineas over 1600m to be noted is now a part of the qualification process for Europe/Middle East on the Road to The Kentucky Derby!

Churchill Downs added 3 new events for the Middle East whereby two qualifiers now will have a starting rights in the Kentucky Derby.

Just watched a replay of applebys Opera Balo winning the G1 turf race in Dubai - sounded like a not very good fake crowd noise from the turn into the straight.

Theoretically not Dubai....

But the Saudi meeting is exceptional in terms of money and now classification!

G1 Melbourne Cup  runner-up Goodie Two Shoes is the star among three entered by Ireland's Joseph Patrick O'Brien for the G2 Red Sea Turf Handicap at 3,000 meters (about 1 7/8 miles).  Epic Poet was second in this in 2025 and English trainer David O'Meara sends him back for another go.

US$20 million Saudi Cup tonight sees Forever Young try to retain the crown from some very good opposition including Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Nysos and also Nevada Beach.

Also the G3 Saudi Derby over 1600m is on the card - the event is now a qualification event for the Kentucky Derby.

Meydaan (5g Frankel x Nezwaah, by Dubawi) ran in the Caulfield & Melbourne Cups last spring but today connections decided to try him on a dirt surface in the G2 Al Maktoum Classic (appropriately at Meydan) & he has bolted in. Will be one of the better chances in the Dubai World Cup in a month's time.

Tonights Jebel Ali meeting has been moved to the 15th.  You would have thought trump could have delayed his attack until after the world cup meeting.  Probably started it early so Jap horse Forever Young wouldnt win the older horse world dirt triple crown embarrassing the US.  Apparently the horse went straight from the saudi cup to dubai.

Plenty of folks can't get out of Dubai after Super Saturday's meeting....

There's also doubt for those coming for the Dubai World Cup meeting including UAE Derby from both US and Japan!

They have cancelled two F1 races for the middle east to be run in April. I assume crowds might be sitting ducks.  Have to think the  same for Dubai world cup day - nothing on emirates or dubairacingclub websites yet.
