Paul Keating appeared on 7.30 Report this evening and "drew a long bow " when he said there could be the possibility that Peter Costello, as chairman of the Nine Network, was stifling debate within that organisation on the proposed increase in the compulsory superannuation levy. Keating argued that when Costello was treasurer he opposed the increases that were previously legislated by the Keating ALP Government .
If Ita Buttrose is any indication of a CEO's influence over staff at the ABC , it's 100/1 about Costello having any influence over Nine Network's staff.

Now I'm not suggesting Super is not a great idea. However, i do get slightly miffed with by the way it has always been sold to the Australian workforce. It started with Hawke spruiking how everyone was going to get this river of money - almost tapping himself on the chest as he said it - like it was coming out of his or his governments pocket. The fact that is was coming out of Employers pockets was neither here nor there. Now i know it was supposed to be offset by productivity savings - but that was total cobblers. Nothing was given up in most workforces when push came to shuv. To be balanced, the very low wage growth in recent years has gone a long way in balancing the books.
