This is a new syndrome I have identified that impacts many average folk. It is especially applicable to TBV members - esp. those who lurk down in the Joffs / Laundry Basket end.

The following traits are common with people with this condition. Unfortunately - it is degenerative & incurable. Treatment options with real results are therefore limited

* long-term wagering (horse &/or sports) history
* consistently do their arse on the punt
* habit of talking up their wins when they occasionally strike one
* have tried all types of variations - bet types / form analyses / staking methods = same outcome
* after years of kidding themselves come to the realisation they are born losers = cash cows for the Corporates
* take on other activities around wagering to keep the dream alive - like Joff's daily banter. Occasionally take part in fruitless tipping competitions
* sometimes old habits die hard & they may even try to re-engage with the new racing elite (very short-term). Its generational after all.
* often reveals itself with obsessive interest in obscure Sports events. Things like cycling , surfing , politics are classic examples
* tend to be cynical of anyone claiming to win on the punt. Take it personally
* generally good at spotting bullgelati artists - based on the school of hard knocks. Almost becomes a mission in life to do so
* become more cynical as their Disorder progresses.
* relapse to compulsivity not unusual. Usually takes a specific event - like an upheld protest, a horse weighing in light or failing to get on a 100/1 winner to get things back in order.
* as a general rule tend to like other Degenerates company (not always the case though). Almost comforting that there are other other Degenerates who are even more pathetic than you are

So have a good think about this "ailment" - probably not the most appropriate word. Actually "sickness" may be more apt. See how right I am LOL

When I saw the topic I thought this was going to be oneone baring his soul re his pokie activities, but then I remembered that Premier Opus Dom had cured NSW of the evils of pokies.

Deary me have a dig at us why don't you, I notice you put surfing in there, as I'm maybe the only who follows it as I used to surf all my life, I'd suggest you are having a huge pot shot. Is this because you don't understand climate change and are lashing out ?

For the record I don't hardly bet any more, I've had around 5 bets on sports in the last 2 years, and I guarantee you this, you would have lost 10 times more than me on the punt old china.

My father was an avid punter all his life. Spent the last 10 or 15 years punting on numbers

Says it all really

The reason I only hang about down here in Joffs is because I don't bet on animals anymore period. I love sports, always have, ever since I could open my eyes as a kid I love a contest. It's a weird juxtaposition for me as generally I am a hard core environmentalist at heart, nature lover, music lover, a free spirited hippy at heart who cares not much for money or economics, materialism etc..but I love sport. You don't come across many that love sport and are big fat old greeny environmentalists, but there you go, we are all different.

Fiddler i am being tongue in cheek with that stuff - I'm actually having a shot at myself

However - your movement (& my)away from punting on horses is sort of what I'm talking about. It eventually wears down the most avid punter.

I only have one that I am aware of. Most Trump stuff was posted in Whale's outrageously successful 2000+ page thread. I started a follow up when the program crashed on it. Never had a 2000 page thread before and it chit itself.

Interesting how fortunes can change over one's fortune life. Thirty odd years ago we did a pretty big renovation on a house we bought and engaged an up and coming builder. After a few years he outgrew the Melbourne " renovation market " and moved to the Gold Coast. After another 20 years he was probably one of the biggest property developers on the Coast, with projects in the hundreds of millions but the along came the GFC, as he was geared right up he went under owing $70 million and was then bankrupted.
Three years ago I read that he was up in Court of running up a credit card debt, to him, of a piddling $32.000 and because he was still bankrupt he was convicted of gaining financial advantage by deception.

The moral of that story is that it is harder to hang onto to what you have made than it was to accumulate it, if you are too greedy.
