Whilst respecting your opinion reckon you're being unnecessarily pessimistic about this fellow Glencoe.

Stats show that almost 80% of foals don't race at 2.  Many because they're still developing rather than lacking ability.

This was quite a literal post when I said "at the minute". Progeny had won 6 of last 11 at that stage. He was flying.

Sat off the pace then put 'em away in fine fashion on debut.  And on a Heavy 10 to boot.

This stallion will make his mark big time imo.

This bloke needs to either pull his finger out or put better knees on his progeny
So, so many unraced, barely 34% w:r & 2% S.W.
Wouldn't want to be selling in 2020. Gross overproduction but the vets love him

Agree.  More than a few would have only had a start or two as early 3yo's at this stage.

Agree with your chart S.C.  The top three on your list at this stage are each being propped up by one good horse . They will need to show more depth with their progeny come Autumn to remain marketable commodities in the main sales
The horse that will survive in the market place is most likely to be B.T.R.  B.Beau will throw  some handy horses but many of his stock may disappoint

Currently has more 3yo winners than other stallion this season. Doesn’t have the knockout stat horse (yet?) but the average offspring does appear to be able to gallop.

With his numbers it's not good if he's throwing bad legs.  We have enough of that problem as it is.

Better than ready 129 foals
h crown  96

It will be interesting to check AEI's ; SWnrs; Wnrs/Rnrs  for the second season crop at the end of the Qld carnival. Cheap short distance speed can only carry production figures a short way & the market works this out quickly.
Another indicator is when trainers start patronizing a lesser heralded sire in his 3rd season

Like Cosmic Choice  Scorpius is also from a very good dam
Scorpio Queen won 5 up to a mile with two S/W's and multiple s/p's. She was classy enough to run 6th in the Coolmore beaten 2.9 lengths

Fituese looks progressive (average dam and all) :) Also had a 2yo win by lengths at $1.40 but a query on the quality of the competition.

No argument with that. DF is no doubt a prolific winner getter.
My query is wether there is enough quality to justify a $ 44 K service fee

The great uncertainty of breeding. The early comments make GREAT reading.....LOL

The real gauge of success for a young stallion on the rise is when his achievements can be measured against the very best older stallions rather than his second crop peers.

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field has moved into that stratosphere as the leading sire of three year-old winners in the country this season, his 52 individual winners putting him ahead of Snitzel (49), Fastnet Rock ( 48) and I Am Invincible (45).

His winners have come from 104 runners giving him a 50% strike rate, which is the equal of Snitzel.

His tally of three 3YO stakes-winners is one more than Fastnet Rock and only two shy of Snitzel and I Am Invincible.

The really remarkable thing is that all of this has come from his second crop conceived at a $22,000 fee, whereas these older champion sires are fielding three year-olds bred from superb books of mares conceived at far greater fees giving them what should be a massive advantage.

The fact Deep Field has achieved what he has bodes well for the future and it’s interesting to take a look into the past to see where the still active champion sires listed below were at in the same point in their careers.

Statistics sourced from Arion, looking at first crop 3YO winners from August 1 until April 18, sorted by winners.

The growing admiration for Deep Field has been reflected at the yearling sales in 2020 where his progeny have averaged $163,201 ( 52 sold) with a median of $145,000. These are his best results so far and up markedly from his 2019 average $105,444 and median $70,000.

Deep Field

Deep Field

His best result of $800,000 for a colt from Roulettes at Magic Millions gave him a new benchmark as his most expensive yearling and was also the highest priced sale recorded in 2020 for any of his second crop peers such as Brazen Beau and Rubick.

Again, worth remembering that his current yearlings were conceived from a $22,000 fee so represent an impressive 7.4 times return on service fee and they are also his smallest crop to date, just 107 foals.

Deep Field has covered over 500 mares in his past two seasons, so has big numbers coming through to build on his burgeoning success, a recipe that has worked wonders for champion sires Fastnet Rock, Snitzel and I Am Invincible.

Breeders were quick to support Deep Field last season at the increased fee of $44,000 and everything we have seen since has vindicated their judgement and given every indication there is a great deal more to come!

What a piece of absolute puffery.
Lots of winners YES  but not a lot of class. His AEI of 1.07 bears this out. He is not an upgrader.
He will become recognised as a good "bread and butter "   stallion worth $ 12 - 15 K   definitely not 44

I agree with Glencoe's sentiments. I really like breednet, but i genuinely scoffed when reading this article. Misrepresentation of stats to give a false overall picture. It is that time of the year to spruik for the coming covering season though i suppose.

Imo, Deep Feild is going OK, no more no less. In my view, Toronado, Rubick and Brazen Beau look better of the 2nd years sires alone, and probably Shooting to Win and Puissance just as good.

Deep Field and Brazen Beau are going fine, but more than a few of theirsare soft boned.

So make sure your mare or the dam of a potential purchase by them aren't lacking in that regard.
